Jund Valakut

Modern

Ittwirbaacs

Sideboard

A Jund Valakut variant I built a while back. Didn't go to far with it except a few wins at my lgs. Here's the list for anyone who would like to play with it.

A typical turn one is either grabbing a sheltered thicket or making an opponent discard. Turn two, a wall of roots is generally preferred over a Sakura tribe elder or farseek, seeing as an anger of the gods or being able to ramp twice in one turn may be in order. Turn three is when you wanna start solidifying board state with proper ramp and understanding an opponent's hand seeing as by then you'll hopefully know what they're playing. At this point, drop a prismatic omen asap, as that is the preferred win con. Immediately after, start throwing fetch lands for board clearing or direct damage. Wrap up the day with a prime time, scapeshift, of reclamation. Any of the three will work, but largely act as discard targets.

This deck has since been retired. It's a ton of fun and I occasionally pop it back out into the light. Surprisingly enough, it handles burn incredibly well. It generally stomps affinity, 4c BTL, Jund, lantern control, and blue moon. If you're stepping in against eldrazi aggro, deaths shadow, or Tron, it'll be a bad day for you, but you can still win. If your matchup is living end, be sure to get two prime times in the grave and you might be able to pull off a 2-0. Smallpox beats this deck unless you have an opening life from the loam. Other than that, the deck was largely untested. It wasn't uncommon for me to go with a loss followed by two wins in a round, so it definitely leans on it's sideboard at time.

Should you decide to run this, have a good time. Just remember to let lands enter tapped whenever possible.
