The Bad 5c Commander (Budgetish w/ Primer)

Commander / EDH

Ovanlight

Well, I'm finally interested in something out of Ikoria

Mutate seemed a little too clunky for me, and companion died for me when we lost our beloved otter, so I was pretty done with Ikoria, but then wizards gave me a little bit of a line to latch on to. I'm in love with Jegantha, the Wellspring.

Jegantha's ability to make is a little hindered by the lack of ability to use it for generic mana, but we don't need to have Walking Ballista to win the game, and for those thinking this is a terrible companion, it is.

Arcane Signet

Azorius Signet

Dimir Signet

Golgari Signet

Gruul Signet

Izzet Signet

Selesnya Signet

Simic Signet

We're running all of the signets that have and . I know we could run more, or more diverse signets, but I make the rules, and I really think is slightly more important to guarantee to us in this case.

We're also running Chromatic Lantern, Birds of Paradise, Golos, Tireless Pilgrim, Cultivate, and Kodama's Reach to make sure we get either ramped up, or the colours that we'll need by the endgame.

Shoutout to Kiora's Follower for following Kiora I guess.

Armageddon

Fall of the Thran

Winter Orb

Anguished Unmaking

Dovin's Veto

Putrefy

Terminate

Utter End

Windgrace's Judgment

Silence

I'm really excited that this deck can run some of the neat multicolor removal that exists in EDH. Boros Charm is mostly in the deck to make Armageddon a one-sided affair. Most removal is self-explanatory, but I also put the two counterspells here to make things more simple.

Silence just exists in the deck to protect our big turn, to stop an opponent, or to be spiteful.

Balshan Collaborator

Bringer of the Green Dawn

Cromat

Progenitus

Shivan Dragon

This is one of my favorite parts of the deck. It's not very good for winning, but it's pretty spicy for putting some pressure on your opponents. Go to the "Winning the Game" tab to see how we get infinite mana put into Shivan Dragon, Cromat, and Balshan Collaborator.

Eladamri's Call

Conflux

Bringer of the Black Dawn

Shared Summons

Fabricate

Enlightened Tutor

Idyllic Tutor There are a lot of combo pieces in this deck, and these cards let you search for what you need to win the game. Check out the "Winning the Game" tab to see what you should look for with each of these tutors

Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal + (any nonland 2 mana besides Jegantha) + Grapeshot/Brain Freeze/Zhur-Taa Druid

This combo can either win the game, or make our commander untap infinitely to tap for mana to dump into our Shivan Dragon-like creatures to then swing for lethal. You also can just win via a storm-count.

Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura + Jegantha, the Wellspring

This one garners infinite mana to achieve the same end goal as above, or to start firing spells all in one turn.

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Solemnity + Blasting Station + (any non-human creature)

This gets infinite damage out by using the Undying ability on a creature, but the +1/+1 counter doesn't actually get put onto the creature, giving you infinite ammo for the station.

Zhur-Taa Druid + Elite Arcanist (with Triton Tactics exiled under it)

Zhur-Taa Druid can deal damage with any endless untap combo.

This section is just for all the cards I didn't specify above.

Fist of Suns

Jodah, Archmage Eternal

These two are to make our commander able to cast anything in the deck by ing.

Lightning Greaves

Some ol' fashion protection. (And for haste. So are Rhythm of the Wild and Temur Ascendancy.)

Rhystic Study

Mystic Remora

Bringer of the Blue Dawn

Damia, Sage of Stone

Some small brain ways to draw cards in the deck.

Seedborn Muse

Jeskai Ascendancy

Some big brain ways to untap what we need.

Lord Windgrace is to recover from if we need to prematurely Armageddon.

Aminatou, the Fateshifter is just some fun bounce strats and card selection.

And last but not least... I don't have the money to buy a bunch of expensive lands, so I didn't put them on the list. Just use what you have already.

And that's the end!

Lots of scattered, yet related, strategies that center around being able to reliably get the mana you need and removing whatever lies in your way. There are some cards that can be removed to put more optimal or useful cards in, like Aminatou, the Fateshifter being removed for another counterspell, but so far, I'm really happy with this list.

It's also important to note that there are still some neat synergies in this deck that I didn't touch on, or I haven't discovered yet since this is my first iteration of the deck, so happy hunting!

I plan on keeping this up to date on what I find useful, and what ends up being a dead slot, but all in all,

Thank You for coming to my TEDH Talk.
