MH1, Core 20, and Commander 19 updates!
The decklist and primer are updated. I don’t have a changelog because I slacked off a lot on keeping up with the changelog because I’ve been testing so many changes and cutting and adding the same cards sometimes four or five times. Sorry for no changelog. :(
What I will say about these sets: I am testing Dockside Extortionist to see if it warrants a slot. Cloudshift and Eerie Interlude are the only ways to blink it, but it may be worth it as a one shot thing. I’ll update soon.
There is currently nothing new from Core 20 I am testing.
And here's a list of everything from MH1 that made the cut:
- Talisman of Conviction - obviously
- Sunbaked Canyon and Prismatic Vista - really nice upgrades to the landbase
- Generous Gift - Beast Within is a playable card
- Winds of Abandon - really like this one because it's modal
- Aria of Flame - please play this card, it is unfair in this deck and it will win you games
- Fists of Flame - man this card is so good
Here's what didn't make the cut from MH1 and why:
- Giver of Runes - not a huge fan of this or Mother simply because of the amount of protection spells I run; that being said, I do think it is a fine inclusion purely because of the colorless clause
- Ranger-Captain of Eos - this has exactly one target for it's ETB, not a great start; however, I think it's a fine inclusion especially if you're running Giver or Mother of runes or other one mana heroic targets to fetch with it, and the sacrifice ability is probably way more useful than I'm giving it credit for since I haven't yet (but want to) test this
- Settle Beyond Reality - on the surface, this looks like a clean removal spell for any targetable creature your opponent's control that lets you reuse any ETB creatures you may be running and that you can abuse since it targets a creature you control; the downsides, five cmc and sorcery speed, however, vastly outweigh the upside on this card to me, and my testing has confirmed my suspicions that this card is far too narrow
- Magmatic Sinkhole - there's just too much better removal in white for creatures; however if you just need another removal spell, red Dismember with Delve is a highly playable card
- Seasoned Pyromancer - not sure I ever thought about this card, but it could have some use as a Faithless Looting with a body; that being said, just play Looting because it's legal in this format and $20 cheaper
- Tectonic Reformation - I am still testing this card, because it functions as a draw engine when you're flooded or low on cantrips, and if you draw it in a bad spot you can just cycle it; I'm not 100% on this card yet, but I definitely think it's playable at worst
I know that you don't run a ton of creatures, but Formation seems like a good card too if you want to go down that route. Djeru's Resolve seems good for blocks too.

TwinStags - Launch the Fleet being sorcery is a killer; it's also mana intensive and not that good imo; Goblinslide is viable, but I find it extremely mana intensive
Leering Emblem has been good for me, but I'm considering cutting it for something new out of MH1.
Scroll of the Masters is really nice for me, it's obviously not great if you draw it late or it gets removed, but when you do get to use it it's really powerful
LordCyrodil - Yea I think we're on different wavelengths, but that's not necessarily bad; I get that Zada/Dragon are REALLY powerful don't get me wrong, I just don't particularly like them, but if they're working for you then that's great. I'm adding a few pump spells and Zada is especially good with those on top of the cantrips. I might test them again in a future build, but for now I feel safe enough leaving them out.
Akroan Crusader is probably the weakest token maker, that's for sure, but it's still powerful enough at just making blockers/attackers for me
Drazatis - Sun Titan being 6 cmc to recur something and be a body is probably a bit slow for me, but it is probably a fine card in general. That being said, I'm considering cutting Sunforger and I'm already cutting Tethmos High Priest so recursion isn't exactly where I'm going anyways.
IMMG54 - I realize people don't always read every comment or the archive before they comment so no worries about not seeing it, I'm going to update the primer and mention it at the top in big letters or something lmao. It's the question I get asked the most.
TallKanz211 - I only play multiplayer, I didn't build this with 1v1 in mind. It performs really well. It's resilient and never runs out of cards, although I will say the only problem I sometimes have is feeling like I'm durdling around and not doing anything within the game, but that's not very often. As far as power level though, it's perfectly fine for multiplayer.
SoukaJerkCoach - I love Blood moon as tech in red decks, and I've always considered putting my copy in here. I haven't brought myself to do it yet because I'm running Wild Slash to fight fog effects, but it crosses my mind every time I run up against a Cradle deck.
thnlsn - few mana rocks, boring card, not a combo deck
