Jund Ain't Dead, Broh! —June 3, 2017
I took some time off last winter to clear my head and take care of a few things going on in my career. Within that time, jund allegedly "fell out of favor". So I kept it shelved at my desk and fiddled with Kiki Chord, (which is a very fun mistake, I may add).
After not seeing any good result with Kiki Chord, and then seeing Reid Duke do extremely well with traditional Jund. I knew I wasn't crazy for not jumping on the DS hype.
So last night, I went to an FNM, and packed jund.
Round 1: BW 8 Rack. Game 1 he slowly grinded me out of the game. I took game two with some hits from The Rack, but managed to Pulse them away and lay the beatdowns with finks. Game 3 I kept a greedy hand and made a vicious play mistake with Surgical extraction and could not recover. 1-2.

Round 2: Mono Black Midrange. Game 1 I open up with inquisition to see that He was playing mono black, cool, a brew, this should be easy. WRONG! My 3/4 Goyfs were dwarfed by his pair of Desecration Demons, (yes, those ones). So my board state was this: 2x 3/4 goyfs, a chandra (which was doing nothing really) and 5 lands while I was at 9 life with a hunt master in my hand. I pass the turn looking at two demons. Shit. He declares combat, I sacrifice a goyf, tapping one demon. I take 6. Okay I am at three. I untap, and draw a Maelstrom Pulse!!!!! Play pulse, target demon, opponent slouches, Uptick chandra for 2 red mana and cast hunt master, swing for now 4 damage with Tarmogoyf. and the game just went wildly in my favor from there. Game 2, was more of the typical Jund game, he plays a creature, it dies, I play my creature, and the opponent dies. 2-0.

Round 3, Boros Burn. Nothing really spectacular, this player was very new. I know this because I played two kitchen finks while he had 2x Skullcracks in hand, he had open mana and never cast them during my turn. He main phased them. 2-0.

Round 4, Naya Burn. I think Burn is the deck to push DS Jund out of the meta. Oh well. Game 1 I Flood on lands and have no decent threats while quickly get burned out. Game 2, I mulligan to three and keep a one lander. Scry to the bottom, and don't see a land for three turns and die. Sometimes my deck hates me, lol. 0-2

I squeak into top 8 on breakers, which is nice.
TOP 8: Infect. Game 1, I played the slow game and kept his board under tight control while busting him over the head with a tarmogoyf. I literally drew removal every single turn and he ran out of protection spells fairly quickly. He took game 2 with a well timed blossoming defense. In game 3, I slammed a turn one Engineered Explosives and pretty much said, "try me". he attempted to bait me into popping it with relics. But i didn't fall for it. I killed the two drops on sight and killed him with a pair of Bobs.
TOP 4: BW 8 Rack... again. I got destroyed in game 1 again. Just bad luck, really. Game 2, I Boarded like I would against affinity, which ended up being a great idea. In game three, I mulligan to 5 and scryed to the bottom, had to keep a one lander again. and I couldn't find another one. In the process, I got small poxed and died with nothing.
All in all, I had a good time. I feel if I had been playing more often, i would have done much better against 8 rack. I haven't seen that deck in a few years. But oh well.
