For my second modern deck I decided to go with something a little more interactive and less linear than my Elves deck GB CoCo Elves. After prowling for budget options (preferably the mono-colored kind as fetches and shocks are too rich for my blood) I came up with Mono White Death and Taxes. After much tweaking I had finally came up with this build...

It is done. The list which you now see before you is entirely paid for after nearly 6 months of purchases, tweaking, and refining.

After SOI I've been experimenting with Thraben Inspector and find him a very useful with a broad appeal as opposed to the narrower, more hateful sort from more common one-drops like Dryad Militant or Judge's Familiar. The Inspector gives me another Turn 1 play and a Clue which lets me do something T2 if I don't have an Arbiter or Thalia. The card draw is neat if I have the mana and opportunity and it mitigates the lack of card advantage in D&T. Inspector also gives us another blink target for repeated Clues and draws in longer games. The 1/2 body too is surprisingly relevant at stopping 1/1 (Mana Dorks and the like and 2/1s (Dark Confidant) from getting free points of early damage. At his worst: he's a strategic chump block.

Second, I've cut Aven Mindcensor from the board. At first I enjoyed the redundant search effect and the 2 power flying body, but I really didn't like having yet another x/1 creature who is incredibly vulnerable in combat. Also, the redundancy in search hate wasn't all that desirable and instances where I casted him in response to a fetch were few and far between. I've relegated him to the sideboard where I can bring him in against decks where search hate is highly relevant to merit his inclusion. Decks like Kiki Chord, Anzan CoCo, and RG Tron.

In Mindcensor's place I've up my flex spot count to include Brimaz, King of Oreskos and Mangara of Coronder in addition to Vryn Wingmare. I feel like these one-ofs give me flexibility in my unsolved meta and seeing as I'm not playing much this summer (working) I see no reason to try and delve deep and try to refine the build before I get some reps in actually playing the deck at an FNM.

Let me know what you think of the deck and/or Death and Taxes in general. I was excited to see that my purchase coincided with the monthly Modern Nexus Meta Game Update which named it Tier 2 playable. Although I'm not entirely sure if the Eldrazi and Taxes version is the reason for this or if E&T was included in the very broad Eldrazi archetype along with Bant and RG.
