General = Sygg, River Cutthroat

Why? Well, it's not like we have many choices! We aren't going to even glance at anything that has a CMC of 3 because lord knows our deck will have enough things that cost 3 mana already and it would be really nice if we actually had a spell to cast on our first or second turn. So Sygg it is, because Kiku, Night's Flower has an ability that requires a bunch of mana and we decided to spend our mana on a bunch of Relentless Rats because we're complete maniacs. Tymaret, the Murder King and Skullbriar, the Walking Grave require us to make sure we actually have a second color in play to cast them on turn 2, which doesn't make them as reliable. And really Tymaret wants us to consider sacrificing our Rats. That's stupid. We like Rats. We want all of them. No, thanks! And Skullbriar wants to become some big guy... but we're just gonna try to have A BUNCH of big guys (all of 'em Rats!). Not needed. No thanks to you either, sir. So, here we are. And that's fine. We don't mind. Sygg likes our plan and will reward our Rats getting through by drawing us more cards (which means even more rats!!). Perfect! That's what we're trying to do. We love you, Sygg!

LANDS:

Pretty much just a bunch of Swamps and fancy lands that aren't much better than Swamps. But Relentless Rats doesn't need ALL black manas... so we'll play around just a little bit. Yes, we only need 3 mana and could play a more typical 19 lands or something like a lot of Tiny Leaders decks... but our deck absolutely can not stumble and absolutely, positively HAS to have by turn 3. No exceptions. So we'll be a little more safe and play 20 lands. Peat Bog actually lets us have a turn 2 rat... so it's in here and we like it. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx potentially allows us to start playing multiple Relentless Rats earlier. We don't actually care enough about Cabal Coffers because that card wasn't fond of our Swarmyard , Peat Bog, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, and such anyways... so we'll pass. We'll play a small number of fetchlands to pretend like we're smart and spent a lot of time figuring out the perfect amount of deck-thinning the deck would require or whatever (and really, not for any great reason at all). But if all we're doing is casting a bunch of Relentless Rats then we have to try at least a little for such style points with our lands.

CREATURES:

Relentless Rats: As many as we can reasonably fit into the deck! We "settled" for half of our deck. Draw them early; draw them often!

Typhoid Rats : Look, I kinda want SOMETHING in the deck that doesn't cost 3-manas! We can't always have a hand that starts with Peat Bog or Dark Ritual! Typhoid Rats isn't JUST a rat and in the deck because it's "on theme," as a rat it conveniently likes our Swarmyard . As a creature, it lets us throw it in on the table even if our opponent didn't give us something to target (unlike a Disfigure or something). It can even add devotion for our Nykthos. Basically... it's fine. If you want to play something like Thoughtseize or Duress or Funeral Charm or Aether Vial or Gravecrawler or Phyrexian Reclamation or Shuko or Signal Pest or Fume Spitter or Gnarled Scarhide or anything else? Well, be my guest! We're playing Typhoid Rats ... though I considered Mental Misstep here since we are technically allowed to play blue spells. But nah! We're playing Typhoid Rats !!

Pack Rat: We don't really like Pack Rats. We like our rats to be more relentless... but it only costs 2 and as we stated earlier, it's nice to have options that don't cost 3.

OTHER SPELLS:

Lotus Petal: Anything to start getting our Rat on as early as possible!

Dark Ritual: How else are we going to go turn 1 Rat?

Inquisition of Kozilek: In this format, it's Distress at half the manas! It's fine. It gives us a reasonably fair shot to do something (anything) halfway exciting on turn 1 when combined with Dark Ritual, Typhoid Rats , and Peat Bog.

And there we have it. This is what we're sleeving up when we just want to get our Rats on.
