Overview

This game is a co-operative game mode designed for 2-4 players. Like in Two-Headed Giant, player's (The Survivors) are a team and take their turn simultaneously. They attack and block as a team.

Surviving and Dying

  • Surviving - The Survivors win when The Horde has no cards in its library, hand, or graveyard and no creatures on the battlefield.
  • Dying - The Horde wins when The Survivors have 0 or less life or when a Survivor draws from an empty library.
  1. The Survivors shuffle decks and mulligan as normal.

  2. The Survivors set their life total. (2 Players = 80 Life, 3 Players = 70 Life, 4 Players = 60 Life)

  3. Shuffle The Horde deck, then separate it into equal parts for each survivor.

  4. Shuffle a Poison Token into each separated pile.

  5. Put all piles back together. DO NOT SHUFFLE.

  6. Shuffle the Loot deck.

The Survivors take 1-3 turns, depending on chosen difficulty, to set up defenses before The Horde deck goes. After that, turns alternate like normal. Survivors do NOT draw a card on the first turn.

The Core Rules

  1. The Horde deck automatically pilots itself.

  2. The Horde ALWAYS has enough mana to pay any additional cost. (e.g., Mana Leak )

  3. The Horde has no life.

  4. Any choice The Horde makes is done as random as possible, but always at The hordes benefit.

  5. Creatures The Horde control have haste and "This creature attacks each turn if able."

  6. Tokens do not disappear from The Hordes graveyard.

  7. The Horde has no maximum hand size and casts all cards from hand when able.

  8. Cards put into The Horde's hand can't be cast until The Horde's next turn.

The Unrelenting Horde

  • Untap: Untap all permanents The Horde controls.

  • Upkeep: Trigger any abilities that would trigger during the Upkeep.

  • Draw: If The Horde would draw the first card during its draw step, instead it reveals cards from the top of its library until it reveals a nontoken card. It then casts all nontoken cards revealed this way, starting with creatures, then permanents, then all nonpermanents. (Cast cards with the same type in order of increasing mana cost.)
Cast all token cards revealed this way afterwards.

  • Main Phase 1: The Horde casts all cards in its hand following the order from above.

  • Combat: The Horde attacks The Survivors with all creatures it controls.

  • Main Phase 2: The Horde activates abilities of all cards if it can.

  • End Step: Trigger any abilities that would trigger during the End Step.

Attacking Planeswalkers Show

Spreading The Disease

  • Playing with this rule is optional. If you wish to play without it, remove all Poison Tokens from The Horde deck.
  • If The Horde reveals a Poison Token, set it aside. The Horde reveals an additional nontoken card for each Poison Token it has during its draw step. This effect happens immediately once a Poison Token is revealed.
At the beginning of Survivor's combat step, they choose Damn the Dead or Burn the Bodies.

  • Damn the Dead - The Survivor's attack The Horde, replacing damage with putting that many cards from the top of The Horde's library into its graveyard.

  • Burn the Bodies - The Survivor's attack The Horde, replacing damage with exiling that many cards from The Horde's graveyard.

Note: This is a replacement effect. No damage is dealt to The Horde, so effects that trigger from combat damage won't trigger. (e.g., Sword of Fire and Ice )

  • If The Horde would be dealt non-combat damage, instead it puts that many cards from the top of its library into its graveyard.

  • If The Horde would lose life, instead nothing happens. (The Horde has no life to lose.)

  • If The Horde would gain life, instead it puts that many cards from the bottom of its graveyard on the bottom of it library.

The Pile Grows

The Horde's graveyard cannot be rearranged. All cards stay in The Horde's graveyard until another effect removes them. (gaining life, Burning the Bodies, using Loot, etc.)

Loot can be used by The Survivors to help keep The Horde deck under control.

The Horde deck contains Special Infected. These cards are denoted as foils in The Horde deck. When a Special Infected dies, The Survivor's exile a number of cards from the top of the Loot deck equal to the number of Suvivors. Then, each Survivor chooses a card from among them and puts it onto the battlefield under his or her control.

If Loot would leave the battlefield, put it in a discard pile next to the Loot deck instead.

Loot

Avarice Amulet - The Horde won't attach it if it gains control of it. Sorry :(

Demon's Horn - Yes, The Horde casts ALL cards revealed and they are black spells.

Elixir of Immortality - It doesn't get shuffled into your deck. It gets shuffled into the Loot deck.

Graveyard Shovel - The Horde always exiles the card on the bottom of its graveyard.

Spectral Searchlight - You could choose The Horde. I don't know why, but you could. It adds black to its mana pool if you do. Not that it matters.

Zombies

Erebos, God of the Dead - Its activated ability can't be used in this game mode.

Plague Belcher - It always targets itself with its enter the battlefield trigger.

Sutured Ghoul - It always exiles the bottom half of the creature cards in your graveyard, rounding up if necessary.

Spells

Army of the Damned - The Horde uses flashback in the second main phase of its following turn. Creating 26 zombies minimum in one turn is a little much.

Bone Harvest - The Horde always shuffles its graveyard then puts it on top of its library.

Delirium Skeins - If The Horde has cards to discard, it does so at random.

Gravepurge - See Bone Harvest rulings.

Rise of the Dark Realms - Yes, creatures returned this way are now The Horde's creatures, so they have haste and "This creature attacks each turn if able."

Smallpox - The Horde doesn't lose life, it discards at random, and it sacrifices the creature with the least power.

Twilight's Call - If, somehow, this is in The Horde's hand during The Survivor's turn, the Horde cast's it the first chance it can as though it were an instant.

Enchantments

Call to the Grave - If The Horde sacrifices a creature, it sacrifices one with the least power.

Contamination - See above ^^^ for sacrifice rules.

Descent into Madness - The Horde exiles permanents with the least power and that are tokens first.

Grave Betrayal - See Rise of the Dark Realms .
