Still working out kinks but the rulings so far seem be that vigilance nullifies exert's untap effect, making your creatures be able to exert every turn and still be able to block, albeit with their extra abilities. If you can't get one of the vigilance enchantments, Benefactor's Draught can fill in temporarily. Archetype of Courage to help improve survivability in combat (especially useful when doing 2 combat phases thanks to Combat Celebrant.
