04 Nature of the Beast - Rith's Romp

Commander / EDH Casual RGW (Naya)

MWE_Hunter

THIS DECK IS MY ENTRY INTO "CASUAL" COMMANDER TOURNEY AT LOCAL GAME STORE TODAY FRIDAY AUGUST 16 2019. Mid-level Commander, and a custom ban list for the event (eliminated a few cards I normally run). Combos limited to 5 activations. Wish I had more time to test it! To war!

RESULTS: The "Casual Tournament" was 2-Headed Giant, and while most had picked partners, I and one other had not. We came in dead last. I was very unhappy with my partner's play, but I wasn't sure that it wasn't my deck and play to blame. Two post-competition 4- player games followed, and in those, I missed winning the first by 1 turn, and won the second. I was pleased to discover that all the other players had brought out their normal decks, while mine was this same "tuned-down" one I had modified for the event. Damn, I guess I can build a decent deck and play respectably. I was beginning to wonder! Now shall I put back Vorinclex and Craterhoof Behemoth?

 _ _ _

Originally the "Nature of the Beast" pre-constructed Commander deck from 2013. This is my attempt at a 75% power "stompy" big-creature deck. Of course, if that's all it did, it could not rise to the 70% competitive level, which it does.

I didn't much like any of the Commanders that came with the deck at the time, so I chose Rith, the Awakener and I think this deck makes it work. This deck is heavy on big creatures, and they are almost all power 5 or higher whenever possible. While opponents quickly realize that some big creatures are hitting the battlefield from this deck, it can (and does) also quickly make lots of tokens: Mycoloth , Avenger of Zendikar , and of course, Rith, the Awakener produce weenies in quantity, though there are other token producers as well. Typically wins by overwhelming opponents with creatures great and small, with each passing turn increasing their numbers and power/toughness through several possible means.

"There is always a bigger fish."
