Waste Not is a weird kind of combo-ish discard deck that doesn't want the opponent empty-handed in The Rack, instead it uses Wheel effects to maximize the number of on-discard triggers.

I found my Grixis list was struggling on mana on the big kill turn. Waste Not only produces B and the As Foretold package needs to be able to make U to keep wheeling, so this is a list to test a Rakdos version with no As Foretold.

This deck scales incredibly well in multiplayer games. The first time you cast Dark Deal in a 4+ player game and get a fucking mountain of Waste Not / Liliana's Caress triggers is a memorable experience for everyone hahah!

Magical Christmasland:

T1: Swamp, Exile Simian Spirit Guide, Liliana's Caress.
T2: Land, Liliana's Caress.
T3: Land, Dark Deal. All opponents with 5 or more cards in hand die.

Wheels/Discard - The Bread and Butter

  • Reforge the Soul | We rarely get the miracle cost, but it is important to be able to fill an opponent's hand back up to 7. If it's Miracled with Waste Not / 4 lands / Spirit Guides you can wheel into Shadow of the Grave or Dream Salvage which are castable during your draw step for massive value!
  • Dark Deal | A CMC3 Wheel in black in modern! This is our MVP in most games.
  • Burning Inquiry | A good way to get discard triggers from an empty handed opponent. 3 discards for one mana is a brutal rate.
  • Collective Defiance | This only hits one player, but that's only a drawback in Multiplayer where the deck is already a wombo combo. There are lots of situations where you want to wheel for Waste Not without losing the Burning Inquiries and Dark Deals already in your hand.
  • Raven's Crime | Get that last Liliana's Caress trigger from a card hiding in your graveyard! Also good for situations where we're on the verge of fizzling -- pump some floating mana and lands we can't play this turn anyway into this to fish for draws or zombies from Waste Not.

Engine Cards - Keep the Wheels Spinning

  • Simian Spirit Guide | Hugely important! Turn one Waste Not / Liliana's Caress, mid-combo gas, 2/2 body.
  • Manaforge Cinder | This solves the Waste Not mana fixing problem. It's no Blood Celebrant but it's pretty much the only modern legal mana filter creature besides Nomadic Elf that doesn't tap as part of the cost.
  • Shadow of the Grave | Get back that 2nd Dark Deal that the first one discarded!
  • Dream Salvage | The inverse of Shadow of the Grave, draw a 2nd Dark Deal after casting the first one!
  • Noxious Revival | Pay 2 life during upkeep to put Reforge the Soul back on top of the library!

Burn -

  • Cut // Ribbons | Cut removes most creatures, and Ribbons is a potential finisher from the graveyard!
  • Collective Defiance | Provides removal / reach when not wheeling.

Other -

  • Waste Not | The titular card, usually we want Draws and Mana from it.
  • Liliana's Caress | Win condition #1
  • Demigod of Revenge | Win condition #2
