Testing Traverse the Ulvenwald —June 30, 2016

I'm trying and testing Traverse the Ulvenwald instead of Worldly Tutor to see which one is actually more powerful. Here are my pre-testing ideas:

WT pros:

-Instant speed

-Not situational

-Good both on early and late game

WT cons:

-Card disadvantage

-Bad topdeck

TtU pros:

-Potentially a green Demonic Tutor

-Not card disadvantage

-Very good late game

-At least it gets you a basic land

TtU cons:

-Bad on early game

-Situational

-sorcery speed

I'll let you know after some testing!

Fun fact: your deck playtests with 82 cards-the foil snow lands don't register with the playtester :P

chrissteals I noticed! However, if you run the second playtest, the deck will register just fine ;)

I just wanted to say that your deck taught me a lot about Green, and helped me realize that I am a green player at heart even though I run Temur colors in EDH. +1 for sure!

SLP_500 thank you so much, I'm so happy to help other players understand their love for Green mana :) I often think of other commanders I could build and I can't even think of building one that is not of this color ;)

I really like Temur way of thinking but when speaking of tri-color combination my favourite one is definitely Naya. In Duel Commander, which is the 1VS1 EDH version, I play Marath, Will of the Wild.

If I didn't dislike white so much, I'd be more open to using Naya colors. I will admit that white has the best enchantments after green, and actually has ways to tutor for enchantments, so I could see Naya being really good. This is more for me than a suggestion for your deck, but what do you think of Asceticism?

I think Asceticism is a nice card, but it is more useful for token strategies like Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, where you want to be able to populate without the risk of your opponents killing the target of Trostani's ability.

In my deck, however, almost all the creatures have ETB effect, so once they are in play whoever will want to kill them, wasting a spot removal on them, is more than welcome ;) of course if they'll kill Kamahl I'd be pretty pissed, but the secret is playing him only if you don't see any threat for his life.

Other decks where I could see Asceticism been played are voltron decks where your commander doesn't have hexproof, such as Rafiq of the Many; or aggro/combo decks like Ezuri, Claw of Progress to protect your pieces.

That's the best answer I've seen, and now I feel better about using it. Thanks!
