Sideboard

Prime Speaker Zegana

From the Simic Guild in Ravnica to the battlefield, bringing you a lot of cards and your enemies a lot of trouble!

So, let's try to explain this deck! Starting with: Reasons to play?

  1. You like drawing a bunch of cards.

  2. You like playing creatures and getting the most value out of them.

  3. You have nothing against countering some spells here and there.

  1. You rather a more aggressive strategy.

  2. You want to control the entire board.

  3. You want to win "comboing" out as soon as turn three or four. This deck does that, but not that often.

Now, if you think this deck might be interesting for you, let's see some of it's features!

An all star in this deck is Deadeye Navigator, with him you might have:

  1. Deadeye Navigator+Mystic Snake = : Counter target spell.

  2. Deadeye Navigator+Archaeomancer or Mnemonic Wall = : Return target Instant or Sorcery from your graveyard to your hand.

  3. Deadeye Navigator+Peregrine Drake = : Infinite Mana!

  4. Deadeye Navigator+Ulvenwald Hydra = : Search your deck for any land card.

  5. Deadeye Navigator+Hornet Queen or Avenger of Zendikar = : Make a bunch of tokens

  6. Deadeye Navigator+Coiling Oracle = : And you might end up drawing a card or putting a land from the top of your library onto the battlefield.

  7. Deadeye Navigator+Prime Speaker Zegana = : Draw a bunch of cards! (At least 6, usually more!)

  8. Deadeye Navigator+Reclamation Sage = : Destroy target artifact or enchantment.

The problem here is that Torpor Orb shuts off our strategy way too easily, hence, we need a backup plan and alternative ways to win. That's where Rashmi, Eternities Crafter and Momir Vig, Simic Visionary do their jobs. With both of them in action it is usually a matter of deciding which creature from your deck do you want and need on the battlefield.

Here, an alter win condition that we're able to use is Thespian's Stage or Mirage Mirror+Dark Depths, giving us a 20/20 flying, indestructible Marit lage, this usually sets a 6 turn clock, and can come as soon as turn 2, with Thespian's Stage into Sol Ring. Also Tolaria West and Traverse the Ulvenwald can tutor the needed pieces.

Another great card is Ramunap Excavator, you can fetch all basic lands in your deck by playing Terramorphic Expanse or Evolving Wilds every turn. You may even get an extra token of your favourite creature or a free copy of a spell every turn by playing Mirrorpool. If you like land destruction, go ahead and insert Wasteland and Ghost Quarter.

Having access to infinite hand size is also important, since you'll probably buy lots of cards every turn and your strongest creatures depend on the number of cards in your hand! That's why Kruphix, God of Horizons, Spellbook, Thought Vessel and Reliquary Tower are awesome pieces in this deck. If you're usually against Purphoros, God of the Forge-like decks, you might consider adding Venser's Journal.

Combos

The deck features only a few combos:

Winning as a Voltron or in Combat

It's really strange to go voltron with a creature that costs so much and has no ways of protecting itself, but believe me, you'll find Zegana, more often than not, as a 20+ powered creature, combine her with Rogue's Passage and choose someone to leave the table.

Your creatures also represent threats on the table, the biggest one is, probably, Sturmgeist due to it's flying ability, but he's, on this deck, normally a 15/15, Flying, for 5 mana, pretty unfair. Overbeing of Myth and Sage of Ancient Lore   are also really strong creatures in this deck.

Drawing your cards!

Ok, so we discussed how the deck can win and profit by drawing cards, but how do we actually draw cards!? I here present you the deck's favourite artifact: Alhammarret's Archive! When you manage to combine Rhystic Study, Sylvan Library or Rishkar's Expertise with Alhammarret's Archive, things may get out of control pretty quickly. Heck, even Brainstorm becomes absurd while Alhammarret's Archive is on the battlefield, drawing 4 cards for a single blue mana! Let us not forget Prime Speaker Zegana, she's a drawing powerhouse that we have easy access, and with Crystal Shard she may be cast from our hand multiple times during the game.

Well, That's all! I hope you enjoyed the deck and become eager to play it. Help is pretty much welcome!
