Commander / EDH BG (Golgari) Casual Dredge Ramp Spider Tokens Tokens

Voltron3030

(Update: This deck will likely be retired soon. It does the one thing really well, creating lots of spider tokens and mana that is. It's won me plenty of games with an acceptable ratio of losses. I'm sort of bored with her now.)

OK this probably isn't technically a tribal deck as there are many non-spider creatures. But this was a tricky commander to make efficient and a contender in my playgroup. The non spiders are creatures with great benefits to the strategy of making lots of spider tokens and keeping them and myself alive. This deck uses Dredge to help get Delirium as well as instants, enchantments, and other goodies to fill that yard. The obvious win condition is to spawn oodles of spiders and drain my opponents to death with Ishkanah. Now I've added Rotwidow Pack as an alternative (and admittedly more efficient) backup win-con. I was also going for a build that would let me cycle Ishy through the grave and the battlefield to spam more tokens and avoid the commander tax; I would appreciate some pointers in this department. I've found Kaya's Ghostform to be a very useful card in this department. I recently added Temur Sabertooth, so hopefully I ramp well enough for that bounce effect to be threatening. I'm picturing: return Ishy to hand and stop something big with an indestructible kitty, then on my turn recast Ishy from hand for more baby spiders, rinse-wash-repeat. I've included Arachnogenesis, Vigor, Dark Dabbling, Golgari Charm, and Watcher in the Web as ways for my spider swarm to hold on to every last inch of life.

Like I said, this was one of the more difficult decks I've crafted and it went through two or three other builds before the list you see today. After hammering out the nuances of the mechanics and buffing the deck to a sparkly shine, I think it is finally on track. Adding Cryptolith Rite, Strionic Resonator, and Illusionist's Bracers probably doubled or tripled the efficiency of everything I was already trying to do. Conjurer's Closet and Helm of the Host are also quite efficient in their own rights, but can be clunky in other respects. Other than the focus on spider tokens, there is an almost absurd amount of ramp in here and plenty of grave diddling spells to try and make things come out in my favor.

That's about all the key strategies with this. I enjoy this deck a lot.
