Purpose

The latest iteration of this deck. I decided to cut almost every red card in the deck (bar The Scorpion God)and move toward a deck more dedicated to pumping out -1/-1 counters, mainly through the use of Archfiend of Ifnir, who also serves as a great late game creature for the deck. Though I had originally planned on cutting Key to the City, now that there are three different targets for it, I believe it actually fits quite well in this deck. Here are some notes on the reasonings behind some of the cards:

  • Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons & Nest of Scarabs: These are the two cards that are going to carry you to victory. If you have both of these out at the same time, your board will be flooded with scarabs and snakes in no time. These two cards really serve as the core of this deck.

  • The Scorpion God: Aside from being a big body, the Scorpion God gives this deck some much needed card draw, as well as being a -1/-1 counter generator on his own. This the only semi-red card we run in this deck now.

  • Key to the City: The three main cards that synergize with this card are Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, Ammit Eternal , and Archfiend of Ifnir. Key to the City allows Hapatra to get a free direct hit in (producing a snake token), allows Ammit Eternal to get a direct hit in in order to remove any -1/-1 counters on him, and triggers Archfiend of Ifnir's mass -1/-1 ability.

  • Bicycle Lands (Canyon Slough, Scattered Groves , Sheltered Thicket): These lands give us an extra discard option for Archfiend of Ifnir. Though it won't always be the best choice to cycle these lands, it's always nice to have that option there.

I'm still looking for suggestions for the deck, so if you have any please feel free to leave feedback!
