Zegana, Utopian Speaker Discussion

Lmao, I feel that.

I was thinking the same thing about Zegana, Utopian Speaker . That's why I put in Zameck Guildmage , but I had to cut Combine Guildmage . Pure draw power with Prime Speaker Zegana is never a bad idea though.

Yeah, some of my suggestions don't make too much sense now that I look at them. I think I went too far into the story aspect of Ravnica without really considering what it would do with the playability of the deck. That's the last time I post on 3 hours of sleep, haha.

I think that Niv-Mizzet, Parun would be an excellent choice if you end up replacing Brago. Though, now that I see the strategy with Brago, maybe leaving him in would be ok.

For Tezzeret, I think you are right in saying that Tezzeret, Master of Metal is a better choice since 4 of your 8 artifacts would be big hits.

Also, I get what you are saying with Mechanized Production. Maybe once we get the complete set list for War of the Spark I can find a better card that will both help the story and the deck.

I chose not to say anything about Maelstrom Angel simply because she fits very well with what the deck wants to do (get a bunch of stuff on the battlefield for your opponents to revel in your theme-ing capabilites, haha)

And one last thing I noticed, I'm not sure how well Zegana, Utopian Speaker works with the deck, so I would recommend just replacing her with Prime Speaker Zegana . In a deck that doesn't care about +1/+1 counters, the older version is typically just better.

Hi Myrphy. I had completely forgotten about Growth-Chamber Guardian ! I had a playset in my original version, but I seem to have thrown them off the list for some reason. I'm probably going to take the two Zegana, Utopian Speaker out, and all 3 of Territorial Allosaurus . I don't see a reason to keep 1 allosaurus in the side.

I used to have 3 Biomancer's Familiar in the main, but I took them out, seeing as I had so few creatures with Adapt or activated abilities. But seeing as I'll have more adapt, I'll add 2.

I'm going to do this:

-2 Zegana, Utopian Speaker , -3 Territorial Allosaurus , -4 Merfolk Branchwalker

then +2 Biomancer's Familiar , +3 Essence Capture , +4 Growth-Chamber Guardian

It looks like you are focusing on winning with Simic Ascendancy . I would think that staples in this deck would be Biomancer's Familiar (which allows you to adapt creatures multiple times and reduces the cost of adapting) and Growth-Chamber Guardian (which searches copies of itself).

My starting point to upgrade this deck would be:

-2 Galloping Lizrog -4 Merfolk Branchwalker -2 Territorial Allosaurus -2 Zegana, Utopian Speaker

then +3 Biomancer's Familiar +4 Growth-Chamber Guardian and +3 Essence Capture

When WAR cards come out, adding proliferate to the deck will make it really nasty.

Murphy77 I've been playing Growth-Chamber Guardian and Incubation Druid in a fairly competitive standard environment. Adapting either of those elves multiple times with Biomancer's Familiar is entertaining, but if you are in a position where you have to adapt one of them again to advance your board state, you've probably lost the game. I've never found myself in a position where I've thought, "if only I could adapt my Incubation Druid again."

I was playing Zegana, Utopian Speaker in my mainboard, but she always sat in my hand as I had better options to play (disclaimer: my deck is not as +1/+1 counter focused as this deck). I ended up trading out the Zegana for one copy of Blink of an Eye .

Another consideration, this deck is already playing 16x two-drops, all of which fit the elf-tribal theme. The simplest reason for excluding the Familiar is the two-drop slot is already too crowded.

For an elf deck, I would have thought you would use the elf-like effect of Biomancer's Familiar over Zegana, Utopian Speaker . Familiar makes creature effects cheaper and lets you adapt Incubation Druid and Growth-Chamber Guardian multiple times, building powerful creatures, etc.

Ravnica Alliance has been very kind to counter based decks. My paper Pir and Toothy deck has gotten 6 new cards, a few of which may work well for your deck too.

Simic Ascendancy

Pir, Imaginative Rascal & Toothy, Imaginary Friend

Zegana, Utopian Speaker

Galloping Lizrog
