Dahvienn, Herald of Paradise

Legendary Creature - Bird Warrior

Flying, haste

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may search your library for a card named Birds of Paradise and put it onto the battlefield. If you do, shuffle your library.

At the beginning of your upkeep, if you control a creature named Birds of Paradise (that did not enter the battlefield this turn), until the end of your turn, lands you tap for mana produce one extra mana of a color they could produce.

3 / 1

Just what gruul needed... more ramp. Does this get busted in Standard or Modern? I am not sure. But it is still epic for your sick broken commander combos... you just have to figure out how to protect it when your opponents see it coming.

Notice that both "at beginning of upkeep" triggers won't happen at the same time, so this is a thing that you have to protect over a couple of turns. Hopefully by then you have a few extra lands and can make the most of its effect, with like a Volcanic Geyser or something ... if you can protect it.

Banefire is near-strictly better than Volcanic Geyser , mainly due to the uncounterable clause. Sorcery speed isn't much of a drawback in this deck. In fact, it should be your prime finisher since it just uncounterably wins the game on the spot once you have infinite mana.

With both Nikya of the Old Ways and Nullhide Ferox in the deck you may want to trim down the number of non-creature spells in the deck.

Some inexpensive upgrades to consider:

Hellkite Charger turns that extra mana into extra attack steps [and more mana and more attacks]

Comet Storm does everything that Volcanic Geyser does and then can do it to multiple targets.

Siege Behemoth gives the Thorn Elemental ability to your whole team and offers some protection for itself as well.

Guardian Project and Soul of the Harvest offer more card draw from casting critters.

Skarrg, the Rage Pits can give a little combat boost plus grants trample.

Almost any mana rock out there is an upgrade over Manalith ; Gruul Signet , Mind Stone , Commander's Sphere , etc. Plus Sol Ring means turn 2 commander.

Not quite as cheap but can help get you some +1/+1 counters from mentor as well as goblins to sac to Arms Dealer or Skirk Prospector is Legion Warboss .

I will second multimedia on some of the suggestions...

Warped Landscape should be replaced by Jund Panorama , it will get you the exact same basics but activates for less

Sol Ring has a legit claim as the best card in commander

Acidic Slime is such versatile removal and leaves you with a 2/2 that will trade with someone's best [and likely much bigger] creature because of the deathtouch, plus consider that if you have Thantis, the Warweaver in play, your opponents will be attacking each round and you are the likely target because of the spider.

Fierce Empath is great for making sure you have that bruiser to cast once you have all of these lovely lands in play

Sylvan Scrying is a good tutor for getting any land combo but Crop Rotation can fit in there as well [though I just checked the price and for a common its pricey]

Harrow has great synergy with this commander and landfall in general, the fact that it is an instant puts it over the top as it combos with Rampaging Baloths for 2 surprise 4/4 blockers.

Cheap duals that you should look at adding -

Sheltered Thicket and Canyon Slough . Not too expensive, can cycle for card draw in a pinch without your commander out and then be brought back into play with his -3 plus they have the Swamp/Forest/Mountain type [subtype?] that lets them be fetched with Farseek though Wood Elves / Nature's Lore will only fetch the Thicket. You can always splurge on the relevant shocklands to round out the cycle.

I would also swap out the 'Refuge' lands for the appropriate guildgates so Circuitous Route can do better color fixing for you. Farhaven Elf might want to become District Guide for the same reason but you do lose getting the land in play.

Comet Storm is an upgrade to Volcanic Geyser as it gives you the choice of burning multiple target at the same instant speed.

Omnath, Locus of Rage could definitely find a nice home in this deck as well.

Not quite as budget as Multi, but I tried to keep suggestions under $5.

Whelming Wave is a cheap board wipe but was just a few cents too expensive to replace aetherize.

Vapor Snag and Shock are also cheap removal that might be able to replace some other card in the deck. Flame Slash is usually better as removal but can't be used as an instant-speed finisher.

Counterspells can be easily customized to hit creatures, instants or noncreatures within the budget. Choose what you want for your meta.

As for draw spells, Tormenting Voice is probably better than Whirlpool Rider against non-blue decks. Treasure Cruise is also within budget but needs an enabler. Anticipate is also cheap but I initially cut it in favour of the whirlpools based on the reasoning that they can draw you into anything if you have the combo set up (infinite mana means infinite displaces on archaeomancer+any other creature).

One final word on finishers, fireball has the same problem as grapeshot. They are sorceries. I would recommend switching it with Fall of the Titans or with Volcanic Geyser . Fireball is iconic but it sadly is not as good as other budget replacements.

I would remove Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast and add Shock or Volcanic Geyser. The reason is that there are 4 other colors than blue, meaning 80% of the time those cards are worthless in your deck while Shock and Volcanic Geyser are useful a lot more than 20% of the time.

it definitely still works with olivia's ability, and if you've got mycosynth out, you can definitely "convert" the mana in to black. so yeah, that one's still good ;) also, if you put in Volcanic Geyser instead of fireball, you could still zap someone with all the mana :) have a great day, mate :)
