Vicious Offering Discussion

I dunno what Committioner means when he says "set up your graveyard." Your value for this deck is in its abundance of lords. Your graveyard cards like Graveyard Marshal should be viewed as more like a Plan B after they knock off a couple of your creatures. Why would you try to "set up" a 3 mana 2/2 effect? It's valuable as a mana sink but not as a deliberate course of action.

Drop the Vicious Offering in favor of more efficient removal like Fatal Push or Vraska's Contempt. Walk the Plank and Murder are alternatively great budget options. 4x Josu is a bit overkill and Yawgmoth's Vile Offering will get stuck in your hand too often with only a handful of legendary cards to enable it. Drop a couple Josu and the Yawmoth's in favor of Metallic Mimic (more zombie lords) and further removal.

Don't short change the potential for this deck. It's a real contender. Here's a link to a zombie decklist that recently went 5-0 in a MTGO competitive league:

I feel like Vicious Offering is a better fit in token decks such as Saprolings and Vampires so you can get the kicker effect off of it for much less of a price than going 2 for 1 like you probably would in this deck. I'd suggest either replacing it with Moment of Craving for more lifegain vs aggro decks or Cast Down for a more effective removal tool against a wider variety of cards.

Not bad.

Sprout Swarm and Thallid Shell-Dweller could be good.

You probably want better removal than Vicious Offering. It's cool that it can kill indestructible creatures, and your deck supports it quite well, but I would drop 3 copies of it, for 2x Cast Out and an Abrupt Decay. (Dismember and Fatal Push are also cards to consider.)

Hey, think you're right Zombies are getting some good stuff in M19: Death Baron and Diregraf Ghoul. Just need another good black two drop Zombie and an enchantment that gives you some draw power with Zombies and they're set. 8x three drop Lords, 8x two power one drops and top end Mastery looks good.

Not a fan of Time to Reflect because it does nothing vs an opponent's attacking creatures. If not budget consider Fatal Push? If budget consider Gideon's Reproach? Vicious Offering is also interesting, it's a powerful removal spell when you pay the kicker. The kicker gives you a sac outlet with Wayward and Belcher. Consider 2-3x more Swamps to be able to cast Mastery turn five? 21 lands is low to be able to have five lands turn five. Can't count on making your land drop each turn until turn five with only 21 lands.

Good luck with your deck.

Thanks, I'll think about it, merflock. Another piece of removal I'm considering is Vicious Offering, as it's much faster and the kicker can be easily paid with tokens.

I would replace Necrogenesis with Fungal Plots. It is more versatile as a maindeck card. If you want to add some GY hate, just put some Tormod's Crypt or Scavenging Ooze in the SB.

Also, cut the 2x Thallid and add 2x Tukatongue Thallid. Spore counters are mechanic that is just too slow. On the other side, you want to have targets ready for when Mycoloth hits the board, and also to trigger Slimefoot's ability.

I would also use Tragic Slip over Vicious Offering. Broader range and 1 mana cheaper.

Fungal Sprouting should be a 1x, since it relies too much on a fed mycoloth to be efficient. It is more like a finisher. I would add 4x Spore Swarm, and cut the Saproling Migration.

Finally, 4x Blooming Marsh would be great. It is a little bit expensive considering you are making this a budget deck, but it could really smooth it.

Bontu isn't really worth it since you have to pay that much and sac a creature for such a pitiful effect. He isn't really conducive to an aggro strategy and only really fits in aristocrats. I would also consider moving two of Bontu's Last Reckoning into sideboard and the second Vraska's Contempt to the mainboard.

I would also consider Cast Down or Vicious Offering in place of Walk the Plank since they're instant speed.

It might also be worth moving Gifted Aetherborn to the mainboard as well while upping Duress to 4 copies and maybe adding in a copy or two of Dispossess and/or Doomfall to the sideboard.

Hope you find success with your deck!

Enduring Last Stand

Target creature gains Undying until end of turn. Untap it. It gains Haste until end of turn and attacks this turn if able.

It is harder to tell which is more enduring: Ser Thalion's devotion toward the extermination of the Orcs, or the Orc's unbreakable resolve toward death.

So, suppose you have out a Tarmogoyf and your opponent Fatal Pushes it. You can bring it back even bigger, on the stipulation that it must attack.

Likewise, suppose your opponent blocks and kills your Gifted Aetherborn with a Giant Growthed 2/2. You can bring back your GA, making it even bigger and now it is untapped so you have a blocker on their turn.

Also allows you to do something like pay into Bone Splinters or the new Vicious Offering without weakening your boardstate. In fact, you actually make yours stronger while weakening theirs.

This card has a lot of utility behind it. Undying was chosen, by the way, over Regenerate because Undying has a more emotional feel, like that of rage. It also feeds nicely into red's love of attacking.

(Can you tell this card was specifically designed for Jund Midrange?)

How about we make another flavorful resurrection / revival card, but this time in blue?
