Verdant Eidolon Discussion

News on the speculation as to what that spirit creature is!

Well, it was subtly confirmed by Gavin Verhey that it is a CREATURE card- and was not initially from Kamigawa. That narrows things down.

Looking at the list (it’s not a long one) the card could be one of few things: Eidolon of Blossoms , Verdant Eidolon , or, hopefully, another reprint of Seedborn Muse .

I would definitely add these cards: Phyrexian Processor , Phyrexian Rebirth , Slime Molding (better than it looks since paying 11 mana will give you a 3 mana 10/10 each turn after), Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage (populate mana-sink late game), Parallel Evolution , Illusionist's Bracers (populate twice, for the same price!), Acidic Slime (just an awesome green staple), Sakura-Tribe Elder , Phantom General , Angel of Sanctions (INFINITE REMOVAL EACH TURN!), Beast Within (staple removal in green), Budoka Gardener / Dokai, Weaver of Life (mana acc and lategame big tokens in one)

I would consider these also: Worldspine Wurm , Parallel Lives (awesome, but a bit $$$), Rootborn Defenses (stops a board-wipe and pops), Trostani's Judgment (high cmc, but good value), Overrun (probably wins you the game if you have a few creatures out), Hydra Broodmaster , Austere Command (wipes opponents' boards, but a bit $$$), Elspeth, Sun's Champion , Elspeth Tirel (both Elspeths have great board wipes for token decks), Oblivion Ring , Yavimaya Elder , Ajani Goldmane / Ajani, Caller of the Pride (both have great synergy with big lifegains), Baloth Cage Trap (P.S you can play this and populate as combat trick!), Beast Attack (the flashback makes this a good comeback-card in case of board wipe and you need to get the pop-engine going), Blade Splicer (very powerful early-mid game)

I would 100% cut these cards: Take Heart , Centaur Healer , Healer's Hawk , Parhelion Patrol , Candlelight Vigil , Conviction , Noble Purpose , Flight of Equenauts , Siege Wurm , Bounty of Might (no trample=hard to use)

I would also consider cutting these: Lone Rider  Flip, Sumala Woodshaper , Sunscorch Regent , Verdant Eidolon , Scatter the Seeds , Wake the Reflections , Ajani Unyielding

Sure! It's easier with Metamorph as you don't have to make blue initially.

We will start from Floating, Hacked Momir Triggers on the stack.

1DE is a shorthand for any 1 cmc elf.

  1. Trigger finds Heritage Druid, cast it, floating
  2. Trigger finds Nettle Sentinel (NS from here on out) cast it
  3. Trigger finds 1DE,
  4. Tap Momir, Heritage Druid and NS for . Cast 1DE
  5. Trigger Untaps NS, Trigger finds 1DE. Floating
  6. Cast 1DE
  7. Trigger Untaps NS, Trigger finds 1DE. Floating
  8. Tap 2x 1DE and NS for . Cast 1DE. Floating.
  9. Trigger Finds Devoted Druid (DD), untap NS
  10. Cast DD, Floating

  16. Cast 1DE
  17. Trigger finds Dwynen's Elite
  18. Untap DD, tap NS, 1DE and DD for , cast Dwynen's Elite. floating
  19. Trigger untaps NS, finds 1DE, and creates a 1/1 token.
  20. Tap NS, Elite and Token for , cast 1DE, floating.
  21. Trigger untaps NS, finds Phyrexian Metamorph.
  22. Cast Metamorph, paying 2 life. Enters as a copy of NS.
  23. Tap 2x NS and 1DE for . Activate TS, returning 1DE floating
  24. Cast 1DE
  25. Trigger untaps 2 NS, finds Elvish Archdruid
  26. Tap 1DE and 2 NS for , cast Archdruid.
  27. Trigger finds Lotus Cobra, untaps 2 NS
  28. Untap DD, Tap 2x NS and DD for , cast Cobra. floating
  29. Trigger untaps 2x NS, finds Sylvan Ranger.
  30. Tap Archdruid and 2x NS for , cast Sylvan Ranger. floating

  33. Trigger finds Phantasmal Image, untaps 2x NS, and puts a land into play, creating off the cobra
  34. Cast Phantasmal Image, tapping Pioneer and 2x NS for . floating.
  35. PS Copies NS
  36. Activate TS, returning a 1DE. Floating
  37. Cast that 1DE. Floating
  38. Trigger untaps 3x NS (don't need to find anything)
  39. Tap 3x NS for
  40. Repeat Steps 36-38 with 2 more 1DEs.
  41. Tap your 3 1DEs for
  42. Repeat steps 36-41 to float infinite .
  43. Use a trigger to find Verdant Eidolon, and one to find Slippery Bogle
  44. Play Eidolon
  45. Sac Eidolon for .
  46. Play Bogle.
  47. Trigger returns Eidolon to hand
  48. Activate TS to return Bogle to hand.
  49. Repeat steps 44-48 to make infinite
  50. Use a trigger to find your win condition (e.g. Venser, Shaper Savant, Laboratory Maniac + Beast Whisperer, Sage's Row Denizen etc.)

I tried to keep the number of unnamed 1DEs to a minimum here, but you can always run more and skip the shenanigans with Devoted Druid and Seedsculptor or whatever.

The reason only a couple floating mana makes this a lot easier is that you use 2 1DEs to net a single initially, and then you need the mana to cast a Temur Sabertooth so you can keep going after getting your second Nettle Sentinel. Each extra mana reduces the chain by 2 1DEs and an extra lets you use Phantasmal Image over Metamorph to save even more mana.

Spleenface on Modern Sets/Bans ONLY cEDH Deck

You can play Hackball, most of the cards in that deck are modern legal.

You use an effect like Trait Doctoring to change both lines of Momir to trigger off of Green creatures, then get: Heritage Druid -> Nettle Sentinel -> 1 cmc Elves until you can get and cast Temur Sabertooth, then get Phantasmal Image, copy Nettle Sentinel, loop a 1 cmc elf to draw all the creatures in your deck, use Verdant Eidolon to translate into , cast another clone effect (or use Phyrexian Metamorph) to create a third Nettle sentinel.

From here you can loop Coiling Oracle and Verdant Eidolon to put all your lands onto the field, and draw the rest of your deck, then win however you want. This loop costs to play eidolon, to sac Eidolon, to play Coiling Oracle and to return Coiling Oracle to hand with Temur Sabretooth, for a total . It adds (6 for nettle Sentinels, 3 for sacrificing Eidolon).

(You can also use a 1 cmc multicoloured creature like Slippery Bogle to net mana with the Eidolon.)
From infinite mana + deck in hand, win any way you like!

sonnet666 on Dream Halls - is discarded ...

The important stuff goes in this order here:

  1. Choose targets.
  2. Pay costs (discard to Dream Halls).
  3. Spell gets cast.
  4. Cast triggers go on stack.
  5. Things resolve in last-first order if there are no responses.
  6. Anything that triggers from the spell resolving goes on the stack.

Blood Speaker triggering from the demon ETB happens in number 6, so it will trigger and go back to your hand.

Verdant Eidolon is in the graveyard for number 4, so it will also trigger and go back to your hand.

You can't target the card you discarded to cast Regrowth because you have to choose targets at number 1, before you discard the card at number 2.

Nice interaction on the first two though.

or, what about: discard Verdant Eidolon to cast (multicolored spell) - can i return the eidolon when the spell resolves? (does it go to the graveyard before 'Whenever you cast a spell' triggers)
