Velomachus Lorehold

Legendary Creature — Elder Dragon

Flying, vigilance, haste

Whenever this attacks, look at the top seven cards of your library. You may cast an instant or sorcery spell with converted mana cost/mana value less than or equal to Velomachus Lorehold's power from among them without paying its mana cost. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Piru and Lorehold

Legendary Creature - Elder Dragon Legend

Flying

Hideaway 6 (When this creature enters the battlefield, look at the top six cards of your library, exile one face down, then put the rest on the bottom in a random order.)

When Piru and Lorehold dies, if the exiled card is an instant or sorcery with mana value 6 or less, you may cast it without paying its mana cost. If you do, Piru and Lorehold deals damage equal to that spell's mana value to each creature your opponents control.

6/6

From Piru, the Volatile and Velomachus Lorehold.

Make a dragon.

Loran's Escape is just better Blacksmith's Skill.

Seems like there's a lot of clunky stuff in here. I don't think I'd ever cast Velomachus Lorehold the way I run Feather (which, tbf, is probably different than you do). There are so many better cantrips than Heal and Panic. Drawing that card a turn late is a huge deal. Past in Flames is expensive mana-wise as well. Shrine of Loyal Legions seems like very low payoff unless it's late in the game, where 20 1/1s doesn't even do you much. A lot of your creatures also seem like low payoffs, they won't be able to win the game fast enough for the pseudo-cEDH decks this deck looks to run against at this price. I just don't understand how this deck functions at the level it seems to want to be without being voltron.

Hi KBK7101, I think your deck looks pretty solid to start off. I do have some suggestions on cards I think you can eventually upgrade. First few cuts I think you can make safely are:

  • Sigil of Valor, Akki Ronin, Peerless Samurai - These can likely be cut since they only care about a singular Samurai, Warrior, or Creature attacking alone, and I think that goes against the Go-Wide token theme you want to implement.

  • Slumbering Dragon, Blood Reckoning, & Search the Premises - These are for sure meta calls. I cut Pillow Fort effects from my deck because my play group would remove Isshin, then tank through standard triggers, or they'd leave me alone, and I wouldn't get any of the benefits. Your mileage may vary depending on your meta.

  • Velomachus Lorehold Maybe. Mostly because they look for Instants and Sorceries. I do like that they have Haste, so you don't have to wait. Ultimately up to you.

I think all of the stuff in your maybe-board could be swapped in pretty safely. Hopefully once Commissar Severina Raine and Inquisitorial Rosette get some In-Universe printings, you can add them to your consideration.

I'd also highly suggest Plumb the Forbidden, Deadly Dispute, and maaaaybe Liliana's Standard Bearer as some more potential draw options in a token strategy.

Both Purphoros, God of the Forge and Mishra, Claimed by Gix  Meld are excellent damage finishers in a token strat (but are definitely expensive upgrades).

This deck looks fun! Have you had a chance to play it much irl? At quick glance there are a couple cards I would recommend as swap outs:

  • Cunning Rhetoric - I know this card is pretty popular in Isshin lists in general, but I think it's a bit overhyped, since it only triggers per opponent and not per creature attacking you. In my experience playing it, losing 2 cards wasn't enough of a deterrent for my opponents to stop swinging at me. Marchesa's Decree could slot in here instead, since it triggers per creature and introduces Monarch into the game.

  • Velomachus Lorehold - You currently have 11 instants and sorceries in your deck, and Velomachus can free cast 10 of those 11 without any additional buffs or anthems. He only checks for about 11% of your deck when he digs through 7 cards (14 with Isshin). Depending on where you are in the game, that's not the most ideal, imo.

  • Raiyuu, Storm's Edge - I think he can be a lot of fun as the commander for a Samurai/Exalted/Equipment/Voltron type list, but he doesn't really fit in this version of Isshin. I recommend checking out Adriana, Captain of the Guard, since she anthems out wide boards that want to swing at everybody.

I hope these suggestions are helpful to you. If you're interested, I have a few more suggestions, but wanted to get your thoughts first.

Depending on the kind of spells you run, Velomachus Lorehold might be great, too!

I for one love the idea of a Boros Dragon. The two we have now, Velomachus Lorehold and Adult Gold Dragon are very disappointing, in my opinion. I mean they are nice for what they are, but I just wish they were a tad better.

Radium, Lord of the Sun

Legendary Creature - Angel Dragon

Flying, vigilance

Whenever Radium attacks, untap each other attacking creature you control. Radium gets +X/+X until end of turn where X is the total number of attacking creatures you untapped in this way.

Whenever Radium deals lethal combat damage to an opponent, untap each creature you control. After this combat phase, there is an additional main phase.

After finding his way into Serra the Benevolent's realm, she made quick work to - not judge him - but take a deep fascination with him. Until then, she had only heard of Dragons but had yet to see one. She was hesitant, seeing him as more of a beast than an ally or friend. She soon found that his carnivorous nature was not compatable with her world, and felt strongly discouraged by it. As her Angels flocked to manage his defeat, she wept as war tore throughout her realm.

As the Angels hunted him down, a darker force took this opportunity to invade and claim her world for his own. Radium lead the assault, disregarding the attacks on him by the Angels instantaneously. With their aid, Radium managed to almost single handedly drive the forces of evil back.

And for his efforts, and his kindness to not continue the war against the Angels, Serra blessed him with Angelic linage. As a Dragon, he already didn't age or need to sleep, but now he also did not need to eat or drink to sustain life. As a result, he was no longer driven by ravenous hunger and, as such, was able to live out his days in peace and harmony with the rest of the Angels.

Wild.

I agree, LunchBox1211. It took Wizards of the Coast like 25+ years or something to make a Boros Dragon and we got Velomachus Lorehold which is a very hard "meh", followed by Adult Gold Dragon which is a giant letdown.

We need a TRUE Boros Dragon!

Brazor, Arial Colonel

Legendary Creature - Dragon Soldier

Brazor, Arial Colonel costs less to cast for each creature you attacked with this turn. Cast Brazor only during a main phase and only during your turn.

Flying, vigilance, haste.

Creature tokens you control have Melee.

When Brazor, Arial Colonel enters the battlefield, untap each creature you control. After this main phase, there is an additional combat phase. At the end of that combat phase, end the turn.

5/6

Word soup is word soup. But he needed to be worded as such because sticking Flash on him could be a big problem with entering the battlefield during an opponent's turn. Then, ending the turn is required otherwise you could sacrifice him to something such as Ashnod's Altar and re-cast for a continually reduced casting cost to loop near-infinite combat phases. The card would remember all creatures who attacked this turn, so if something attacked twice it would be counted twice. You'd never have to pay the increased Commander Tax. Because of this, suppose you have 4x and 4x available; That's 4x additional combat phases. So to prevent this, he ends the turn.

I'm satisfied. Took several revisions. Surprised I wasn't ninja'd.

Challenge: This sounds kinda funny so I'm going with it.

Hey, well done for being new and knowing that you can still learn and improve your deck building.

Some cards within your budget to consider adding:

You have Old Gnawbone, Hellkite Charger is a combo with Gnawbone for infinite attacks as long as Charger can keep attacking you can keep paying seven mana with treasures to have another combat step. This combo uses Dragons as the win condition by attacking with Tiamat being a source of lethal Commander damage. Savage Ventmaw can make six mana when it attacks that can be used to pay for Charger, needing only one mana to have another attack which can result in having a lot of extra attacks on your turn each turn equal to the amount of untapped mana you have. Crux of Fate can wreck since it can destroy all nonDragon creatures your opponents control leaving only your Dragons alive to attack.

Temur Ascendancy does two things that are really good for Dragons, it's a haste enabler and repeatable draw whenever a Dragon ETB. Faeburrow Elder can tap for two mana, green and white, but if you control other colored permanents then it can tap for even more mana, up to tapping for five mana, one of each color. Fellwar Stone is another two drop rainbow mana rock.

Boros Charm at instant speed can protect all permanents you control from most removal including all your lands. Swords to Plowshares and Counterspell are staple single effect instant removal options. Blasphemous Act is really good in multiplayer Commander as a fail-safe/reset the battlefield of creatures and it's mana cost consistently can be reduced to only one red mana.

Patriarch's Bidding is among the most powerful reanimation effects for tribal, for five mana it reanimates all Dragons that are in your graveyard.

Some cards to consider cutting:

Temple of the False God is not a good land. My advice is cut it from all your decks, since you can't tap it for mana until you control five or more lands. If you have it in your opening hand then that hand is a mulligan and any land that does this shouldn't be used. Orb of Dragonkind can't tap to make mana to cast any nonDragon card or pay for anything else, there's better ramp options.

You're not going to be casting enough instant or sorceries in a turn to reduce the mana cost of Demilich much. Quad blue or triple blue mana cost is too difficult to make with this manabase without controlling Chromatic Lantern or The World Tree with five other lands. Velomachus Lorehold cares about cheating the mana cost of powerful 5 CMC or less instants and sorceries which you don't really have here or do you need to include since Dragons are the high CMC cards you want to cast. Casting a Crux of Fate for free would be nice, but even so I don't there's enough worth while instants or sorceries to make Velomachus worth playing.

Good luck with your deck.
