Vedalken Plotter Discussion

Some pretty good control cards that bounce are, Stonehorn Dignitary to stop aggro decks, Vedalken Plotter to maybe steal key lands or steal a color they need for commander, and Elgaud Shieldmate is a nice way to protect your commander or any other creature since you can bounce it.

Daedalus19876- Thanks! I've retired my Aurelia the Warleader Voltron deck, and this is now my "Main" deck.

I've considered Puca's Mischief for a bit now, but I'm hesitant to add it since I'm very picky about when and what I trade with my opponents. Vedalken Plotter was part of the original list, but has since been removed.

Starfield of Nyx has proved very useful for the recursion effect, since I don't currently own a Replenish. Plus it's Opalescence that also retrieves stuff Caustic Caterpillar will inevitably destroy. I will note I had trouble earlier with it after playing Humility as It rendered all of my enchantments useless once they become creatures. ._.

Wild Ricochet has saved games more than once.

The REAL reason I have Glaring Spotlight in here is because a buddy of mine thought it would be fun if he made a Narset deck, and I realized even with all my O'Ring shenanigans, If I can't get around hexproof there's not much I can do but buy time.

Counterflux will makes it way out in time.

I just recently took out Illusions of Grandeur and Land Tax. Why would I do such crazy things? I'll tell you!

  1. Illusions can only hit for 20, and most of the time, my opponents blow it up before I can give it to them. (Return to Dust, Seal of Cleansing, etc)

  2. I removed Land Tax to increase the effectiveness of Equipoise. I do miss my scroll tax, so I'll consider putting it back in.

Thanks for taking the time to look over and suggest things! :) I am CONSTANTLY updating/tuning this deck IRL, so it will always be changing.

Ooh, this is gorgeous! Also, great musical choice to go along with the deck! Hahaha.

A few minor suggestions, though:

Puca's Mischief, Vedalken Plotter, and Daring Thief are great cards to add to easily swap permanents.

I'd cut Absorb for simple Counterspell.

Without question, I would remove Starfield of Nyx. It makes your enchantments vulnerable to creature board wipes.

Personally, I don't like Glaring Spotlight, Counterflux, or Wild Ricochet. Neither seems to live up to their potential.

You're missing Illusions of Grandeur :)

Why not play Land Tax? Gives you access to Scroll Tax, the best card draw combo in the game (beyond the normal land fixing it entails).

Hope this helps! :)

Austin_Smith_of_Cards Thank you for your feedback. A lot of those cards were in my original build of Zedruu the Greathearted. This was before I went the more competitive rout.

I have been getting into cEDH more and was tuning my deck towards a more comprehensive meta rather than just making a fun toying with people deck.

Illusions of Grandeur was good but when I am gaining a bunch of life already it kind of pointless. It only effects one person and most of the time they dont pay and just lose 20 life.

Akroan Horse is another okay option here. I liked it because it instantly goes to another player and saves me mana that way but I found my self wanting other hate cards rather then getting a free give away.

Humble Defector I never put in as I dont want to help out my opponents who then will use it and just give it back. or help themselves more with teh extra draw poer, as I play in a mostly competitive meta it helps infinite combos go faster.

Paradox Haze was in the deck originally. Two zedruu triggers is nice but is not needed in teh build I went for. I have more control over my draw then most zedruu decks with Scroll Rack and Sensei's Divining Top plus a few others.

Bazaar Trader, Vedalken Plotter, Harmless Offering Are all pretty much the same, giving people things and trading things. They are mediocre in the grand scheme of things and when I can replace them with more taxing effects that affect everyone.

Puca's Mischief is a good card but havent had a chance to actually test it yet

Perplexing Chimera is a mana intensive card for a deck that doesnt have a lot of ramp. It can work good when you have Homeward Path out but it isnt needed

Azorius Signet took this out beacuse I wanted room for other things. I found that my mana base is pretty good as is. The only upgrades I would is the OG dual lands and fetches.

Assemble the Legion, Sphere of Safety, Are all good cards, just not in this deck. I dont attack much in the deck and having weenie creatures for 5 mana is not that good. Also with Sphere of safety I am not as worried about people attacking with the life gain. so for 5 mana for a propaganda effect isnt worth it.

Alhammarret's Archive this card would be pretty crazy in a casual arena, but with a meta of combo decks its too slow to get it to work.

Aetherflux Reservoir thic card may get tried sometime but as far as right not it did not make the cut.

Swords to Plowshares I do not run any targetted removal or board wipes except Cyclonic Rift. I usually dont care what creatures others have as I have options for that. IT is a more controlling build. Especially with cards like Humility and Lightmine Field and Silent Arbiter I am fine taking attacks.

Most of teh cards you mentioned were in a my original build of zedruu when I built it as a group hug fun deck that would occasionally win. This deck is by far more consistent and wins demanding by the control I have over the game.

Thank you for your input

I was in the process of writing a long, comprehensive list of all the reasons why you should be running the following cards, but then my computer crashed and I lost all the text. Instead, I'm just going to say you ought to be running these:

Illusions of Grandeur, Akroan Horse, Humble Defector, Paradox Haze, Bazaar Trader, Vedalken Plotter, Harmless Offering, Puca's Mischief, Statecraft, Steel Golem, Perplexing Chimera, Thought Vessel, Azorius Signet, Alhammarret's Archive, Aetherflux Reservoir, Sphere of Safety, Swords to Plowshares, Assemble the Legion

Honestly there's no reason to sell yourself short by playing Scorching Spear. Browbeat is a much better option imo. Plus numerous amounts of spells that don't care who has what. Howling Mine, Kami of the Crescent Moon, Goblin Cadets, Vedalken Plotter, Shifting Borders, Donate.

I mean, you're not even running Harmless Offering....

And if you want "bad" just play stuff that does nothing period for them like Darksteel Relic.

Possibility Storm is my single favorite card in magic. It spices up the game and very few people dislike the card. I've built the deck so when I get possibility storm there are many viable options I can possibility storm into.

There are some nice combos with the card as well such as with Aetherflux Reservoir and Rhystic Study. Possibility Storm combined with Omniscience is end game worthy. It's a scary combo.

Form of the Dragon is a fun card, I see it used a lot. I see it used more so as a win-con than a donate tool though, oddly enough. I don't use it because I don't like it as much as the cards I currently have and I believe Commander should be ones favorite cards.

Bazaar Trader is a card that is ALWAYS recommended to me and Zedruu players a like and the only reason I don't play it is because Bazaar Trader can't donate enchantments. Yeah, giving away lands is always an option but I have Political Trickery and Vedalken Plotter for that. I don't want to give away any of my creatures too. If I do I use Assault Suit.

Bazaar Trader is a really good card if you have enough creatures and artifacts you don't mind donating like Steel Golem
