Unwilling Recruit

Sorcery

Gain control of target creature until end of turn. Untap that creature. It gets +X/+0 and gains haste until end of turn.

Nice. A few suggestions, given your new theme:

Hazoret's Favor is built for this deck.

Mogg Cannon is less powerful, but a backup sac outlet and cheap.

Mark of Mutiny is a good threaten for Greven.

Traitorous Instinct is basically Malevolent Whispers v0.9.

Treacherous Urge gets any creatures your opponents think they can keep in-hand until Greven leaves the field.

Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor , Goblin Spymaster , Hunted Dragon , and Hunted Horror will make sure you have a steady stream of creatures to kill.

Molten Primordial , Insurrection , Mass Mutiny , Captivating Crew , Angrath, the Flame-Chained , Conquering Manticore are all notable Threatens that are missing.

Auger Spree doubles as removal and card draw. Bedeck / Bedazzle does the same and also hits problematic lands. Nameless Inversion is probably the worst of the three, but it can be grabbed by creature tutors, so there's that.

Unwilling Recruit and Might Makes Right might not be efficient, but they will be funny.

Goatnap . That is all.

looking through other brion decks, have a couple of suggestions:

Phyrexian Processor - costs life once, makes large tokens to flink & gain life back.

Mimic Vat - token generator that can exile an opponent's (or your) enter play effect, then sling it with brion

Harness by Force - steal multiple creatures, can dial in as many as you need

Goblin Bombardment - backup sack outlet with no mana cost

Malevolent Whispers , Traitorous Instinct , and Unwilling Recruit - other stealers, these ones gives bonus power

Word of Seizing - because split-second is stupid-good against control

Cradle of Vitality - gain life equal to power? better amp up the next thing to chuck...

Orim's Thunder - a boros staple, disenchant + burn in one card is a good value

overall, I'd probably toss the Fling and Thud over permanents that can sac for less, or get something else out of it (like Carnage Altar )

I love the idea of this deck, +1!

I dig Unwilling Recruit because its not only a steal but also a buff. I really like the repeatable steals on your upkeep but looks like you're lacking in ways to protect your creatures. Kira, Great Glass-Spinner or Asceticism?

After the helpful reminder of my likely blunder and misreading of the card by MegaMatt13, I am revisiting my Threaten effects section.

Disrupt Decorum is a total house. It brings disaster on all my foes, if it doesn't end the game within a few turns or so. It is nicely costed, and given that it's effects last for a full round of turns means that being a sorcery is not a huge deal. Great card, and while not technically a Threaten effect, it is not that different than Insurrection in what it does in play to make a difference. This has been my favorite.

Word of Seizing is an instant with split second. It is a very versatile card, if somewhat expensive. Still, you can pull all kinds of craziness with it. My second favorite.

Insurrection just finishes things. It is super expensive, and is better left in the Wishboard for retrieval when needed. Usually a single card late game one turn wincon.

Act of Aggression is technically CMC 5, but in reality, it is a colorless CMC 3 instant that does 4 damage to you, pay or to prevent 2 or 4 damage. It untaps, as MegaMatt13 astutely points out, meaning it has both offensive and defensive uses, and can't be foiled by the owner tapping it. Great card, I just wish it was CMC 4 for use with Sunforger.

Grab the Reins can be tutored with Sunforger, but the utility is severely limited by not untapping. Bummer.

Mark of the Oni looks very interesting. On the off chance that I have out Master of Cruelties, I get to keep the creature. If it untapped, this would be a perfect card. As it is, it has the same issue as Grab the Reins. I may try it anyway.

Blind with Anger has almost everything I want, instant, CMC 4 or less, untap and give it haste. Only problem is it is for legendaries. Too many legendaries I would want to target. Still, maybe worth trying.

Besmirch is pretty great, 3 cmc threaten that goads, untaps, and gives it haste. That is pretty amazing. The goad gives it defensive uses, even if not for blocking. Offensive defense. That is perfectly in line with this deck. It is a sorcery, which is the the only down side. I have like this one before, and may return to it. We shall see.

Unwilling Recruit is very interesting. Most things I am looking for, it untaps, it gives haste. It also can be used as an X spell finisher. I have not tried this one, but I am going to. A sorcery speed threaten effect that could turn a utility of midrange creature with some form of evasion into a finisher. Very cool. Too bad it doesn't bring evasion or trample by itself. I will try this one anyway.

Disharmony is a card I have tried, and I really wanted to like it, but in the end, it was a weird Fog/removal, with the potential of being a 2 for 1 in the right circumstances. Bummer. Not enough. Still, playing a card from Legends brings a little gravitas to a deck. Like drag racing a 57 Chevy. It may not win, but you look good losing.

Kari Zev's Expertise looks cool, but I am afraid that I would infrequently get to use the free spell. There are many CMC 2 cards, but most are defensive or early game cards. I may try it to see how it works.

Zealous Conscripts is awesome, but doesn't have flash, and comes with too much combo rep. Even so, it is worth considering.

Threaten, Traitorous Blood, Hijack are all similar sorcery speed effects that cost 3. They each balance different benefits. Besmirch is likely better in most situations.

Malevolent Whispers and Turn Against are both kinda cool, but expennsive, and their benefits don't outweigh the expense, given the alternatives.

Fractured Loyalty would be super fun in the right deck. Not this one.

Frenzied Fugue is pretty amazing. I could have some weird fun with this. Not sure is is the right card for this deck, though.

Other than those, there are also a few multi-target spells that fit in this category. Mass Mutiny, Mob Rule, and Molten Primordial are all great cards, and if I am creeping up into the higher CMC, as well as accepting some sorcery speed options, then these should definitely be considered. I am not sure which of them I like best. I am leaning toward Mass Mutiny due to the cheaper CMC, even though Molten Primordial comes with a large body, and Mob Rule will likely hit more targets. I may try them all.

While we are at it, since I am probably getting somewhat similar effects out or Animate Dead and Reanimate, maybe I should consider Beacon of Unrest. The CMC is higher, but the opportunity to use it more than once is interesting. It may find a spot as well.

Anyway, please comment and tell me about your favorite Threaten effects. I need one to put in the Grab the Reins spot, and want to consider all options.

Here are my suggestions and some recommended removals to tighten the deck. Molten Primordial, Lifeline, Assault Suit, Recruiter of the Guard, Solemn Simulacrum, Burnished Hart, Infiltration Lens, 2x Plains (36 lands should be your minimum despite your mana rocks in order to consistently get to 4 lands by turn 4), Rage Nimbus, Master Warcraft, Nim Deathmantle, Thornbite Staff, Umbral Mantle, Helm of Possession, Anarchist, Illusionist's Bracers, Caged Sun, Gilded Lotus, Rugged Prairie, Iroas, God of Victory, Obsidian Battle-Axe, Mob Rule, Savage Beating, Adarkar Valkyrie, Karmic Guide

Suggestions to remove:

Clean up repetitious cards in sideboard and maybeboard that are in the deck. Best of luck, hope some of that is helpful.

Can't you just cast Seize the Day on your second main phase after attacking targetting Zada, Hedron Grinder copy and untap, swing again with your first extra combat then on your extra main cast Wrangle, Act of Treason,Besmirch,Harness by Force,Hijack,Kari Zev's Expertise,Mark of Mutiny,Threaten,Traitorous Blood,Unwilling Recruit,Lose Calm,Malevolent Whispers,Portent of Betrayal,Temporary Insanity,or Traitorous Instinct on Zada, Hedron Grinder then copy and untap all your creatures move to the next combat phase Ad Nauseam. Or you could Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker with Zealous Conscripts to infinite swing each combat. Or have Sword of Feast and Famine on a creature when it hit and combo off with cantrip copies on Zada into draw and more untap. Then if you're going with the infinite combat should probably put in Aggravated Assault as another infinite combat option, though with all the card draw you'll get it relatively quickly not even putting into consideration Past in Flames to cast those already cast untap spells again from the graveyard. Should be enough untap + combat phases to kill everyone. Though this seems like a lot of mana with a spliced Desperate Ritual onto Blazing Shoal you should get three red mana per creature if for some reason you weren't able to equip Sword of Feast and Famine. All of this relies on having the cards but cantrip draw shouldn't be a problem. Maybe this would work , haven't done the math, but it's a possibility.

Thanks WillySmasher!!

The deck is a ton of fun! I've really enjoyed it so far.

Children of Korlis looks like it has the potential to be a great little combo!

I had more steal cards in the deck at first but noticed I was sitting on them more than I used them. I kept Unwilling Recruit because I love the added insult of making my opponents creatures bigger before Brion throws them at their face.

Like the description says this is my first Commander deck and I still don't have a lot of the staples. Both the boots and greaves, as well as others like so ring, I'm on the lookout for. I like trading for the cards I want rather than just flat out buying them but they will be added eventually!

Thanks for the +1!!!

I feel like the flavour could be pushed up a notch or two. Throw in some looting/rummaging effects Academy Raider, Curse of Chaos, Daretti, Scrap Savant, Vaultbreaker, Dragon Mage, Wild Guess, to name a few. Prophetic Flamespeaker to get cards off the top, Grenzo, Havoc Raiser to get cards off the top of others' decks.

Maybe go deeper with theft effects with Zealous Conscripts, Unwilling Recruit, Frenzied Fugue, Besmirch, Enthralling Victor, Blind with Anger, Harness by Force, etc.

Also, the stereotypical pirate has only one eye, right? So why not Bloodshot Cyclops and Cyclops Gladiator?

I mentioned Flame Fusillade and Furystoke Giant to you already, but what about Titan of Eternal Fire and Seismic Assault? You might as well get in damage where you can!

Finally, since no pirate ship is complete without a supply of rum, Elixir of Immortality and Thousand-Year Elixir. Drink up, me hearties, yo-ho!
