There Are Rats in the Cellar

Sorcery

Target opponent creates two black 1/1 rat creature tokens. Then, choose one:

Extermination Quest - Venture into the dungeon. Up to two creatures you control fight up to two creatures you do not control. Create a treasure token.

Set Traps - Create a food token, then search your library for cards named Springjaw Trap, Explosive Apparatus, and/or Trip Noose, put them onto the battlefield, and shuffle.

Frequent trope in D&D... I may have gone overboard with the text to try to make it too accurate. But the payoff might be big enough to be playable... the second mode makes it useful for golgari artifact synergy decks, and the first mode is great for removal, ramp, and venture. The real downside about the second mode is, of course, including those cards in your deck.

StopShot on Card Suggestions for a theme …

Background: My favorite time of the year is Fall for various reasons, the biggest is the change of the leaves and scenery and the drop in temperature. Ever since I went off to college far south of where I grew up it's been summer all-year long and I can't ever escape it, so I miss my favorite season.

I want to build a casual 60-card deck with as many cards that depict the fall leaves or autumn forests as I can. (A little bit of snow is okay.) I want this to be a budget-friendly deck, though if you know of an expensive card I'd like it to be suggested so its at least on my radar.

Cards I have in mind are: Trip Noose , Ambush Viper , Autumnal Gloom  Flip , Edge of Autumn, Lambholt Pacifist  Flip , Woodland Patrol , and Young Wolf. If you know of any other cards that fit this theme please make a suggestion. Promos with alternative art that fit this theme are welcomed to be suggested as well, thank you. (Cards outside the color green may also be suggested as well.)

Sweet deck! +1 vote.

A few cards to consider: Sanitarium Skeleton or Mardu Shadowspear (for repeatable extort spell ), Trip Noose and Nevermore for sideboard.

StopShot on GW Combat-Trap Deck. [Casual-Theme Deck]

Hey all, I wanted to build a gimmick deck that involves using "trap-like" cards that hinder my opponent's creatures. This doesn't specifically tie into actual MTG trap cards like Slingbow Trap and the other variety of trap cards which are in essence sort of unplayable or clunky, but rather mtg cards in general that behave like traps such as Ambush Viper and Trip Noose.

I'm looking for card suggestions that may further expand on this gimmick or improve the deck. I value more maintaining the gimmick of this deck; such as running Ambush Viper over Swords to Plowshares, but by the same token, I don't want the deck to get bogged down or slowed by putting in cards like the aforementioned Slingbow Trap.

Cards can be anything within the legacy-legal sets. This deck is also on the budget side of the spectrum as I'd prefer to use cards that cost $5 or less, and I would like to keep the average mana-costs among cards low by using cards that have a cmc of 3 or less, unless I feel a certain card is a slam dunk for both flavor and value. (This is so that traps are fast and surprising.)

Any card suggestions on what might improve the effectiveness of the deck or add onto the flavor without slowing the deck down? (Also, do you feel Advent of the Wurm would be an effective card to add in?)

Thank you for your comments and suggestions!

I want to build a trap-themed deck specifically in Selesnya colors, though I'd be open for expanding to a third color if there are interesting enough suggestions for it. Same goes for price unless I feel a card really hits home for flavor, so preferably nothing above $5 per card.

To get an idea for the sort of deck I want to build I want to use cards like; Pitfall Trap, Ambush Viper, Trip Noose, Quicksand. Maybe Pit Trap and Wall of Nets, but my play group uses specifically Modern cards, so I'd prefer to stay in that field if possible. (Do feel free to suggest non-modern cards for consideration.)

Also the cards I've been reviewing seem weak to fliers. So I was thinking maybe I might add in Deadly Recluse and Raking Canopy to counteract that. I just don't want to use straight forward spells like Pacifism or Lignify since that seems to go against the idea of setting up a trap.

Any trap-like card suggestions I should consider? Also what creatures do you feel like would best go for a trap deck like this? I kind of like the looks of Qasali Ambusher, and Advent of the Wurm, but I don't know what else would work well.

I'd recommend a few other ways to tap your opponent's creatures, like Gideon's Lawkeeper or Trip Noose. Tumble Magnet can hit artifacts as well

There are gobs of great options that have additional utility prior to your general's arrival (some are better than others). It seems like you're looking for non-creature permanents though (which makes sense because then they'd be targetable with Harobi out as well), so I'll keep that in mind. There are the tappers/untappers: Puppet Strings, Thousand-Year Elixir, Ice Floe, Icy Manipulator, and Trip Noose, the damage dealers/preventers: Banshee (can also be a finisher), Oasis, Panacea, Sorin Markov, and Talon of Pain, the P/T modifiers: Unspeakable Symbol, Nefashu, Retreat to Hagra, Belbe's Armor, Necropolis Fiend, Island of Wak-Wak, and other assorted target effects: Shadow Alley Denizen, Shizo, Death's Storehouse, Maze of Ith, Power Matrix, Erratic Portal, and Predator, Flagship. Also worth mentioning is that Endless Whispers combos well with Horobi and repeatable targeting effects.

This deck looks really fun. I'm tempted to make a version of it myself! Also, there are toooons more options that you can find with a quick gatherer search.
