Tilonalli's Skinshifter Discussion

Rhadamanthus on Could Tilonalli's Skinshifter survive turning ...

Unfortunately this doesn't work because they don't do their end-of-turn things at the same time. Tilonalli's Skinshifter will still be a Ball Lightning when it's time for the sacrifice ability to trigger and you aren't given a choice otherwise.

The End Phase of each turn has two separate steps: the end step and the cleanup step. Ball Lightning's ability triggers at the beginning of the end step, as it says. However, "this turn" and "until end of turn" effects wear off during the cleanup step, i.e. after the end step has already happened (the game needs to have these separate steps in order to make certain rules and mechanics work properly).

So in your example both the original Ball Lightning and the Tilonalli's Skinshifter who's pretending to be a Ball Lightning will have the "sacrifice Ball Lightning" ability trigger at the beginning of the end step. They'll both get sacrificed before the game moves on to the cleanup step.

This will not work.

The Ending Phase is broken into two steps - End Step and Cleanup Step (R. 512.1). The End Step occurs first.

Ball Lightning's effect triggers at the beginning of the end step; Tilonalli's Skinshifter's ability wears off the "end of turn", and such "end of turn" abilities end during the second part of the cleanup step (Rule 514.2).

As such, the End Step trigger from Ball Lightning will both trigger and resolve before the Cleanup Step begins and Tilonalli's Skinshifter reverts to its original form.

If I turn Tilonalli's Skinshifter into a Ball Lightning, since both of their triggers happen at the end of the turn, can I stack the Tilonnali's Skinshifter's ability to shift back before Ball Lightning's sacrifice requirement triggers?

Have you thought about putting a Tilonalli's Skinshifter in the deck? i think that 1 or 2 could help you out if you just need a little extra stomping power.

Love the deck, but I'm kind of confused about the role of Tilonalli's Skinshifter. The only relevant thing it is doing is copy Bosk Banneret to make something cheaper post-combat.

I know it isn't budget friendly, but Platinum Emperion. Laugh at attackers...unless they're commanders or infect, but you can probably handle those. Also, Necropolis Regent does some work, especially if you can copy it with Tilonalli's Skinshifter. I pulled that off in a playtest with some ramp, by turn seven I had like a 30/30 or so Thantis

Hi! It looks like a cool idea. Although I would probably suggest to go even deeper in the unblockable sinergies. I think I would add stuff like Blossoming Defense to protect your creatures from removal, and increase damage, and also maybe Titanic Growth to pump even more. Also, other great stuff to consider could be See Red for example.

On the other hand, I think I would cut the Tilonalli's Skinshifter. The greatest downside of that card is that it only copies a base version of the creatures, with no aura or equipment effects, and it's a 0/1 in your opponent's turn. Something like Goblin Chainwhirler kills it, and even Fungal Infection kills it! haha

Finally, although I like Skirk Prospector I don't think this deck is taking all the profit it has. I think a couple more Llanowar Elves would be better, or maybe even Draconic Disciple which is a pretty good mana sink in the late game.

Anyway, those are my comments. In general I would say is a cool deck idea, have fun brewing! :D

Add more thuds its a good win condition if you have a big creature also add more Cast Down and try to add more cards that take things like Dead Man's Chest. Smelt should be in the side board cause its good against artifact decks. Also Costly Plunder is a good draw card for this deck cause of its low cmc. Plus if you want to be fun cause you taking many of your opponents creatures and sacking them, you should add revel in riches as a alternate win condition. Maybe you should also add a Tilonalli's Skinshifter.
