Thrill of the Hunt

Instant

Target creature gets +1/+2 until end of turn.

Flashback (You may cast this card from your graveyard for its flashback cost. Then exile it.)

I'm curious how well a build with more creatures and the full playlet of Lead the Stampede would do. Also Thrill of the Hunt can be pretty decent protection + damage

I would get rid of Virulent - it does nothing to contribute to combat and negates any damage that would be done to the opponent. Thrill of the Hunt is a very good combat trick for slivers and certainly better than sigil blessing. i would say - 3 blessing, - 4 virulent, +2 gemhide + 4 thrill and +1 lead the stampede.

Mutagenic Growth & Apostle's Blessing could help you get your life down to 5 quicker, if you actually want to go that route. =D

I love +1/+1 counters decks, and I've used a lot of these cards before, so it's almost like looking down memory lane here, lol.

The only thing I really want to say here is that some Flashback in the deck would be nice. something like Thrill of the Hunt or Travel Preparations would be cool, but maybe also Acorn Harvest, Battle Screech, Folk Medicine, Gaze of Justice, Sylvan Might, etc. etc. You could probably remove 2 and 2 of Scatter the Seeds and Gather the Townsfolk to make room if you wanted (or just drop Scatter altogether).

what needs improving? Speed? Protection against removal?

I've built a very similar deck. Here are some suggestions based on my build.

Dusk / Dawn is (almost) a completely one-sided wrath. I only have 2-3 creatures it can hit in my build. At worst you lose one or two creatures while you wipe all or most of their board. It seems like a definite include and it provides late game card advantage by recurring most of your squad.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion also provides a (mostly) one-sided wrath effect. The great thing is you can play it and "wrath" in one turn and she lives. Also since you killed several of their creatures. It's likely she'll be able to setup to wrath again in a few turns.

I really like Humble in this deck. It's a single-use Vhati il-Dal that I treat as removal and let's you do fun battle tricks even when you're not attacking or defending. Good times.

Thrill of the Hunt is a good replacement for Iron Will. It doesn't pump as much, but you can use it twice on two different creatures if desired.

Team pumping seems better overall than the targeted variant. Bar the Door, Fortify, and Solidarity all feel that Overrun-esque role. Also Overrun, albeit a sorcery, can punch through those last points of damage ignoring their board state. I don't have it in my build, but it wouldn't hurt.

Interesting deck, Aespinoza10. I've always liked the Heroic mechanic, even though it doesn't hold up very well in the Modern meta.

As it is, you have more spells than creatures... which means you're more likely to have a handful of spells, and nothing to cast them on.

My personal take on cuts? Sunblade Elfx4, Common Bondx2, Hardened Scalesx2, Gods Willingx2, Mutagenic Growthx2, Path to Exilex1, Seeds of Strengthx1, Sigil Blessingx4, Rancorx2, Forestx1, Giant Growthx4

Just these cuts should put you at 60.

Some things to add/think about?

Spells with Flashback Thrill of the Hunt, Travel Preparations. These give you repeat-targetting spells to keep the buffs coming.

Spells with Rebound. Emerge Unscathed, Prey's Vengeance... same reason.

Brave the Elements would give your line of weenies protection all at once... Won't stop edicts or Damnation, but it's a decent sideboard option.

This is just from a cursory glance, but what do you think?

You could see which performs better between door of destinies and Light from Within, since CoCo will throw them on the field instead of casting them. Repel the abominable turns off 11 out of 25 knights in your deck. Selesnya charm or Dawn Charm is probably better, or if you're feeling cheeky against lightning bolts, Thrill of the Hunt can be a nice tech.
