Take into Custody Discussion

Thanks for the advice. I removed a few cards and replaced them with Take into Custody x4 to be able to tap blockers. I also have a few cards available to tap target creatures like Janjeet Sentry and a Deadlock Trap with a Baral's Expertise that i'd like to replace with another Deadlock Trap i believe. I currently don't have any Key to the City but i'll be looking to pick this up and make some more adjustments.

The mana curve here is really clunky-- you may want to cut some of those one drops and three drops to smooth things out. Take into Custody might could go? What's the idea there--to remove blockers and eliminate attackers?

I went 3-1 at my prerelease with a sweet grixis control deck. I had 10 removal spells, not counting the Fireforger's Puzzleknot, 2x Take into Custody, Fourth Bridge Prowler, Dark Intimations, Cruel Finality, ad Leave in the Dust in the sideboard. Foil promo Gonti's Aether Heart.

1x Leave in the Dust

1x Unlicensed Disintegration

1x Daring Demolition

1x Shock

1x Die Young

1x Underhanded Designs

1x Vengeful Rebel

1x Cruel Finality

1x Subtle Strike

1x Pacification Array

1x Gifted Aetherborn

1x Prophetic Prism

1x Implement of Combustion

1x Implement of Examination

1x Scrapheap Scrounger

1x Experimental Aviator

1x Gonti's Aether Heart

1x Aether Chaser

1x Gearseeker Serpent

1x Multiform Wonder

1x Aethertide Whale

1x Mechanized Production

1x Freejam Regent

8x Swamp

4x Mountain

4x Island

1x Island

By far the best card in this deck is Multiform Wonder. When combined with any other energy producing card, like Gonti's Aether Heart, Aethertide Whale, or even Mechanized Production on it, it's an evasive 10-point life swing each turn.

I also had the most epic win ever. I was at 3 life, then played Mechanized Production on my Pacification Array, which let me tap out his board each turn and i got up to 8 Pacification Arrays once I was at 1 life.

This looks amazing, might try put together a non-budget version and see what I can come up with.

To your list though I'd definitely drop the Aether Theorist for Anticipate. Its digs deeper and is much faster than theorist. Also it triggers Trail of Evidence. Glimmer of Genius is another dig option as well.

Erdwal Illuminator and Padeem, Consul of Innovation are things you might want to consider as well.

Jace's Scrutiny and Press for Answers I'm not sold on. I get why they are there but they feel way too weak. Take into Custody is much better than both of them. I'd swap the Jace's for Take Into Custody at the least.

Finally you might want to have another Mechanized Production target in the deck since it doesn't need to be attached to the artifact you want 8 copies of. An obvious choice is Torrential Gearhulk but that may be outside of your price range considering its been labelled budget. Maybe Dynavolt Tower? It could get out of hand absurdly quickly when you have 3-4 Towers out and are generating enough energy to bolt off of every instant/sorcery cast. The issue here of course is you start diluting the rest of the deck to fit the towers.
