Spirit en-Dal Discussion

Azdranax on For Whom The Belle Tolls - An Enchanted Tale

Thanks for the upvote Nerdytimesorwhatever, your timing was perfect in asking that question, as I got to play the deck for the first time in months the day before. I cut a couple cards - Crop Rotation and Land Tax , as they didn't have much impact when drawn, as I found myself wanting more auras or answers to threats instead. I also removed Daybreak Coronet for now, as it just feels like a win-more aura rather than a game-breaker. In those card slots, I added Mark of Fury , Kithkin Armor and Flickering Ward , which I'm not sure why I didn't have in the deck previously, as 1-cmc options that provide solid evasion or haste and two that can recur themselves to help cantrip my enchatresses were immediate upgrades.

As far as top performers go, Spirit Mantle , Spirit en-Dal and Seize the Day are always welcome sights, as they result in a very high win probability once Uril hits the board. As fun as the deck is though, it's very difficult to play in my meta with more than one opponent, as I play a lot of cEDH, and this deck will draw all the hate from others even as the combo decks prepare to end the game. 1v1 is where it shines most, and then it's a real handful.

I'd love to help you. I have a favorite card for zurgo, Spirit en-Dal . I really like this card because it can't be removed with usual means of removal like Return to Dust and Beast Within . It can also be used on an opponent's creature. Give it shadow and it can't block.

Aside from that. What kind of deck are you trying to build? A combat based deck? A combo deck? Group slug deck where you do damage with cards like Warstorm Surge and Vicious Shadows

Spirit en-Dal to get that cmdr damage in easily. Also really hard to remove Spirit en-Dal

I found Withering Boon to be a great inclusion in my mono black builds. We all know black has no problem getting creatures off the field. But it's that damn ETB effect that gets you. So that where Withering Boon shines. Rune-Scarred Demon ? Nope. terrastodon? Nope. You get the point.
Another good mono black inclusion I found myself putting in every mono black build is Imp's Mischief . This is a unique black effect that really catches people off guard. TAKING THERE EXTRA TURNS IS THE BEST.

Other neat tech I really like

dcoffin: Hmmmm. Perhaps Spirit en-Dal? It gives Avacyn shadow when she needs it, and carries swords well.

And yeah, it's an equipment I've considered for a while, but never QUITE made the cut. Partially because most equip costs in this deck are already pretty low.

Budget cards to consider: Aegis Angel, Reya Dawnbringer, Reaper from the Abyss, Angelic Arbiter Spirit en-Dal Rakdos Charm

Pricey cards to consider: Chancellor of the Annex Magus of the Moat Mother of Runes Admonition Angel Blinding Angel Thunder Dragon

There's lots of options but do also be care of creature cards that say "When monster attacks" because when cheated it, they are not technically attacking because they weren't there during the declare attackers step in combat so their ability doesn't work if they were put in by Kaalia. Enter the battlefield effects are usually better unless the attack ability is too good not to have for a second swing in.

Note Steely Resolve is a nombo for lots of things you want to do. You might want to reconsider that card.

Huatli, Dinosaur Knight, Huatli, Radiant Champion, Pounce, Crash the Ramparts, Savage Stomp, Rile, Hunt the Weak, Enter the Unknown, Tilonalli's Crown, Kindred Boon, Majestic Heliopterus, Cacophodon, and lastly Spirit en-Dal all don't work if Steely Resolve is out and you choose dinosaur

Take out Pillar of Origins for Strionic Resonator. Getting 2 triggers on your CMDR seems great. Secondly you might want to consider adding in Spirit en-Dal so you can give your CMDR shadow and swing him uncontested
