  • Disciple of Deceit This seems to have anti-synergy with Ninjutsu. Since you return an attacker, you are not going to untap it. Overall people seem to overestimate this card. It looks like a tutor, but it's rather quite bad.
  • Inkrise Infiltrator, Vedalken Infiltrator Power one for two mana mana is not worth it.
  • Kotose, the Silent Spider This costs too much for a 4/4 with no evasion and no immediate board effect.
  • Okiba Reckoner Raid  Flip At the start of the game, you can't use it as an attacker. In late game, Menace is not that effective. Overall Changeling Outcast is a more reliable creature for one black mana, and even that isn't exactly a premium card.
  • Twisted Embrace 4 mana is too much for this.

Other cards to add:

  • Shriekmaw - At worst it's a mediocre 2 mana sorcery removal spell, which is not bad. In longer game, you'll get a 3/2 unblockable create to close the game, which further works with nunjutsu. If you can manage to evoke it with Feign Death or Undying Evil...
  • Baleful Strix This is a two mana removal which draws a card. And with Ninjutsu, it you can draw additional card.
  • Siren Stormtamer This is an early ninjutsu enabler, which also protects your better creatures. Unlike say Negate, it can also proactively attack.
  • Sleeper's Robe Ensures unblockability of your ninjas with a card advatage just for 2 mana.
  • Clearwater Pathway  Flip Yet another untapped dual land.

Looks good so far. Personally I would make these swaps:

Cormela, Glamour Thief -> Coalition Relic
Maestros Ascendancy -> Worn Powerstone
Tragic Slip -> Syr Konrad, the Grim
Aether Tunnel -> Rogue's Passage
Protective Bubble -> Shizo, Death's Storehouse
Thought Collapse -> Seize the Day
Mirror Box -> Sakashima of a Thousand Faces
Umbral Mantle -> Firemind Vessel
Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant -> The Haunt of Hightower
Megrim -> Spark Double
Liliana's Caress -> Waste Not
Aqeous Form -> Sleeper's Robe
Lier, Disciple of the Drowned -> Cabal Conditioning
Aetherspouts -> Hedron Archive
Go for the Throat -> Component Pouch
Turnabout -> Sakashima the Impostor
Terminate -> Generator Servant

This deck feels sort of unfocused. Specifically, Mindcrank and you choice in card draw spells (unless you're tryna mill someone out, in which case take a look at Paranoid Delusions) seem counter-intuitive. I would recommend thinking about what you want to do every turn.

Turn 1: drop an unblockable creature.

Turn 2: either pump it up or, if possible, play Invisible Stalker.

Turn 3: pump it up more and keep drawing cards off of Curiosity and the like.

To this end I would recommend... switching to UW?? Yeah. Why? Because Staggering Insight and Sentinel's Eyes are two very strong cards, as are Ethereal Armor and All That Glitters.

However, if you want to stay UB, that's fine. I recommend Sleeper's Robe, Curious Obsession, Demonic Vigor, Eel Umbra, Predator's Gambit, and Unholy Strength. They seem pretty good.

Looks good. You might like these: Bident of Thassa , Coastal Piracy , Sunken Hope , Dire Undercurrents , Sleeper's Robe , Zur's Weirding (make everyone else lose their draws, meanwhile you get cards via your general's ability).

Also Ancient Stone Idol (or any big cmc creature, Idol just seems the best) + Haunted Crossroads + Skirge Familiar would be fun. Respond to Yuriko triggers by discarding the Idol with Skirge, then put Idol on top with Crossroads. You can hold priority between resolutions of the seperate triggers to repeat this, so if 4 or more ninjas connect you win. Hard to pull off, but at least the combo pieces are decent even outside the combo.

Really enjoy the style of this deck and will be building a variant of it to suit my meta. Any reason you don't have Sleeper's Robe in the deck?

Grafted Exoskeleton because a 6/6 that gets a +1/+1 counter basically every time it attacks with an equipment that gives it +2/+2 and infect, makes a very scary CMDR. Other good stuff is Grafted Wargear, Scytheclaw, Ring of Xathrid cause regenerate, O-Naginata, Magebane Armor because you are in red and probably running red board wipes like Starstorm basically keeps him safe from all red based board wipes and what ever else like Pestilence. Another good one is Kusari-Gama. All the "swords". And that's just equipment. Clout of the Dominus, Helm of the Ghastlord, Sleeper's Robe, and Fist of the Demigod are all good. Some others are good like Skeletal Grimace, Shade's Form, Endless Scream, Phyresis, Glistening Oil, and Corrupted Conscience gonna be good in many situations. I mean I'm barely scratching the surface. There's so many ways you can voltron. But this is what I got for ya. Cheers

Oh, that was what you meant, nice point:) I've replaced Memory Plunder with Undercity Plague. The deck is already running Stolen Identity;). I know it's going to be cast multiple times, but i think Shadow Slice is too weak to make the cut. For Midnight Recovery the deck got Animate Dead and Necromancy and since we don't really have a totally game-changing creature, we'll stick to just the two already included ones which can also target the enemy graveyard:) For Last Thoughts i think Sleeper's Robe, Helm of the Ghastlord, Mask of Riddles, Bident of Thassa, Sword of Fire and Ice, Curiosity and Coastal Piracy already do the job fine - Thanks you for the nice suggestions!

Perpetual on Zur, is he even fun?

7 years ago

You can build Zur to do other things, but the problem is that anyone who knows standard Zur tactics will hate you off the board out of fear that that is how you built your deck.

I built Zur primarily for Pillow fort. Sure, I usually get Spirit Mantle first to protect Zur, but after that I mostly react to board state. If there are no threats on the board, I get Sleeper's Robe, Gravestorm, or Rhystic Study for card draw. If there are threats, Karmic Justice, Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, Darksteel Mutation, Pillory of the Sleepless, Recumbent Bliss, Righteous War, or Blind Obedience are my choices. I can get Nevermore to prevent troublesome commanders or combo pieces from hitting the field.

My main offense is actually Zombies, for which Zur can get Spear of Heliod and Archetype of Courage.

But mostly I just die to people who think I am running 20 counterspells and 20 auras to pump Zur up. People in my meta don't seem to get a non-optimized Zur build.
