Shifty Doppelganger

Creature — Shapeshifter

(3)(Blue), Remove Shifty Doppelganger from the game: You may put a creature card from your hand into play. If you do, that creature gains haste until end of turn. At end of turn, sacrifice that creature. If you do, return Shifty Doppelganger to play.

Roon being my favorite commander i gotta say this deck looks really good. You have all of your basses covered. I'm going to leave some suggestions with your budget and relaxed playgroup in mind.

In terms of ramp you are in the color green so i would lean away from the signets. If people are destroying artifacts at your table you might just want to play it safe with cards that have the same effect such as Farseek or Nature's Lore.

Also Prime Speaker Zegana is really one of the best card draw options in a deck like this and not that expensive.

A lesser known blink option in Planar Guide threatens to stop a board wipe and mass blinks your boys.

I see you're running both Ghostway and Eerie Interlude. The loop with any graveyard recursion ETB can be game winning so i would consider running Mnemonic Wall to find it more consistently.

I'm not sure how you feel about tutors but it looks like you have enough targets to run Fierce Empath. It could help you close out the game by finding your Avenger of Zendikar or in the mid game find card draw engines and removal.

Some pet cards of mine I've run in the past: Sudden Disappearance , Shifty Doppelganger , Minion Reflector. idk how good those are but they're interesting and did some things for me in the past.

Love your deck, its really refreshing to see.

There are two cards i can think of instantly to solve the problem of playing against creatureless: Hunted Phantasm and Shifty Doppelganger

Good news about Shifty Doppelganger! I found out that if you put Mairsil into the command zone when you use Shifty's ability, Mairsil will return from the command zone to the battlefield if the creature is still around to sacrifice at the end step. Mairsil will not be stuck in exile. At worst, he'll be back in the command zone if someone kills off the creature.

This is because rule 903.9 is a replacement effect; you are putting Mairsil into the command zone instead of into exile. Shifty's ability states that you return Mairsil to the battlefield; it doesn't specify from where. As long as Mairsil is still in the first zone he was sent to when Shifty's ability resolved, he will return from the command zone to the battlefield.

FerrumLung

I was thinking of Shifty Doppelganger as another bounce affect to protect mairsil.

From what i understand, The gatherer ruling says if you dont have a creature to sac at eot doppelganger won't return from exile. If used with mairsil, that means he will be in exile forever! Sure i could return him to the cmd zone, but at that point why not just let the removal your trying to dodge kill him?

As for Mirror-Mad Phantasm, it seems too risky without Laboratory Maniac. If i had lab maniac, phantasm would be in auto-include, however. Definitely a decent combo wincon.

Go to the gatherer, read the official ruling on Shifty Doppelganger. He work the way you want him to, I think. If not look into Mirror-Mad Phantasm

Something else I noticed. Shifty Doppelganger is quite risky to use with Mairsil. If you exile Mairsil using that ability and the creature you put onto the battlefield is no longer there at the beginning of the end step, Mairsil stays in exile.
