Shadowgrange Archfiend

Creature — Demon

When this enters the battlefield, each opponent sacrifices a creature with the greatest power among creatures they control. You gain life equal to the greatest power among creatures sacrificed this way.

Madness—, Pay 8 life. (If you discard this card, you may cast this for this card's madness cost instead of putting this into your graveyard.)

77hi77, it makes me so excited to hear that you've caught the Rakdos bug and that my decklist and primer has helped inspire you to make Rakdos your own! You've made my day. He's such an unconventional powerhouse, and it's fun to watch players' faces when they realize the game state has suddenly shifted against them dramatically.

Your comment got me thinking about how to best verbalize the theory behind the deck, and when I began typing my response, I realized I had a lot more to say on the topic of "how the deck doesn't fall behind" when it attacks with Rakdos than I thought I would. So instead of replying with a book of text in the comments here, I created a new section in the primer called "Rakdos Game Theory". If you give it a read through, it should help you understand how I've attempted to solve the issue of how to survive attacking that you commented about.

I'd love to hear more about the direction you're taking your deck, but if you're not ready to share yet, send me a link to your deck when you are! The basics of not falling behind when you attack with Rakdos are mana density, card efficiency, and resource denial. If you want to build Rakdos on a budget, you'll want effects that packs as much mana onto each permanent as possible. Think Gilded Lotus, Everflowing Chalice, Chromatic Orrery, Sceptre of Eternal Glory, Dreamstone Hedron, Nyx Lotus, Rakdos Carnarium, Everglades, Dormant Volcano, stuff like that. That way, sacrificing hurts less because the bulk of your mana stays on a single permanent. Token producers like Wand of Orcus and Abhorrent Overlord are also excellent so that you can sacrifice the free value permanents instead of critical resources. Finally, play symmetrical table hate pieces like Pox, Shadowgrange Archfiend, Tectonic Hellion, Death Cloud, Insurrection, and Curse of the Cabal to keep everyone low on resources like you are. If you can afford them, the trio of It That Betrays, Tergrid, God of Fright  Flip, and The Reaver Cleaver are in my opinion mandatory in any list that wants to prioritize attacking with Rakdos.

Shadowgrange Archfiend is definitely powerful here. It's downside obviously is that it's not a vampire, so no cheating in with Strefan. Then again, it has enough upsides to be better than Drana.

Chakagozio you’re welcome, happy to help!

seshiro_of_the_orochi - these suggestions are helpful to me, thanks! I originally added Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, but I feel like it’s ability is expensive for what it is. I just removed her in favour of adding Shadowgrange Archfiend back in because the madness/blood token synergy basically turns it into a 4-drop asymmetrical board wipe with a draw at instant speed (each opponent sacs 1 plus you can flash SA as a blocker). What are your thoughts on this vs. keeping Drana?

A couple evasion creatures that I like to use with Ninjutsu are Soulsworn Spirit and Fogwalker, because of their reusable ETB triggers on top of being unlockable (or, at least hard to block, in the case of Fogwalker).

As for your big creatures, the Eldrazi are all awesome just for having big bodies, but remember that you don't get the "as you cast" triggers when you use Ninjutsu to cheat them onto the battlefield, nor would their attack triggers activate (i.e. Annihilator). So I would limit how many of them you use down to just Kozilek, the Great Distortion, because it has a good activated ability. I'd replace the others with creatures that either have ETB triggers or damage triggers.

I have a running list of creatures I'd like to use for Satoru, but I don't want to name off a million cards. The highlights, though, are:

And even that is a long list, so I apologize. Obviously, Palinchron would be great, even without the combo(s), but you already mentioned that.

Cheers!

Looks like fun, although I'm not sure you have enough card draw. Typically I would recommend Strionic Resonator in any Kaalia, but maybe a bit more draw if you really want to abuse her ability. Also not sure Isochron Scepter is necessary, but if you like it to have protection spells at the ready I guess I cant blame you. Also consider Burning-Rune Demon if you like being able to tutor, and Shadowgrange Archfiend from the crimson vow precon is a great way to keep your opponents in check. Hope these are helpful.

Very nice list! As someone who rather enjoys cEDH Anje, it's cool to see such a tuned, but fun and on-theme, list for her!

The new Shadowgrange Archfiend is a card that'd be cool here, just in case you haven't seen it!
