i would take out Lone Missionary for Veteran Armorer or Lumithread Field to protect your creatures form Electrickery . Cut a Mourning Thrull , a Soul Warden OR a Soul's Attendant and a Plains for 3x Night's Whisper , you are going to need the card draw. Replace the Castigate with Harsh Sustenance or Unmake.

sideboard:

Take out Shadowfeed and put in Beckon Apparition , i think it will synergies with with the soul sisters and Edge of the Divinity by giving you a white/black creature token. take out Nihil Spellbomb for Relic of Progenitus , trade out the Swamp in the sideboard for a Bojuka Bog or 2x by taking out 1x Bonesplitter . Replace the Castigate and Disenchant with 3x Standard Bearer.

maybeboard:

Crimson Acolyte , Obsidian Acolyte , Prismatic Strands , Battle Screech , Rune of Protection: Red , Rune of Protection: Green , Epicure of Blood , Oblivion Ring

sorry about the last post with no hyperlinks to the card names. i am new

Let’s see...

Considering how prevalent W/U Stoneblade, Burn, and all the various creature decks of Modern are atm, I think Collective Brutality is your friend. I know it’s awkward because Dreadhorde Arcanist can’t flash it back with base power 1, but it’s pretty absurd right now. I wouldn’t take out your Bobs because they’re still quite good. Dragon's Claw is probably good for the sideboard. If you’re not running Soul-Scar Mage , he turns Burn into actual removal. Finally, Shadowfeed is good incidental gy hate with anti-Burn attached. You might run 1-2 in the main if you expect to see lots of Burn.

I've played a lot of modern vamps. Some of the best options are dirt cheap, so it makes for a great budget list to take to FNM. Most of the time I've been in mono black, but splashing for lietennant is fairly low-cost and low-risk for a great card.

For this list, Vampire of the Dire Moon , Vampire Cutthroat , Indulgent Aristocrat will do an amazing job filling out the one-drop slots. They are the 'best' budget setup I've found- great burn matchup and evasion/great deathtouch trades into bigger threats. They also play nice with Lashwrithe and Blade of the Bloodchief .

If your budget is tight enought that filling out with $1 1 drops seems rough, look at Guul Draz Vampire , Shadow Alley Denizen and Pulse Tracker alongside Stromkirk Condemned , Urge to Feed and direct damage like Gonti's Machinations and Bump in the Night . Playing a lot of 1 mana creatures that get pumped is really good, and evasion like intimidate makes something like mono-red burn but with hand disruption.

Two mana stronger options is Legion Lieutenant and Cordial Vampire (you can run Stromkirk Condemned , Dusk Legion Zealot or Cruel Celebrant ), and three is Vampire Nighthawk and Bloodthirsty Aerialist since you have them and want those slots for budget removal/carddraw. Gifted Aetherborn deserves a mention as it used to be cheap, but dire moon is frankly better and in print.

Next we come to the thing that makes budget mono-black king of the budget lists- cheap, effective spells. Sign in Blood is playable card-draw. Underworld Connections while far, far worse than Phyrexian Arena , and worse than bob still performs admirably. Delirium Skeins & Mind Rake devastates control players. Duress successfully hates out combo players. Standard cards like Mire's Toll & Drill Bit perform miracles. Cards like Flaying Tendrils can play at being one-sided boardwipes, and your sideboard has access to all manner of oddball cards that had too many copies to get expensive for modern- from Shadowfeed to Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage .

Grab some playtest tools and muck about- you will find a great deck within your budget that you can muck about with to perform well in your local meta.

The big battle is managing bitterblossom/bob life loss, however blue has tools to deal with this through card filtering. I'd look at topdeck control options- Condescend Treasure Map  Flip and Counterbalance are decent, and with a lot of relevant spells in the 1/2 mana cost slot you should have a lot of hits. Counterspells, counterbalance and bitterblossom was really good for a time.

Other interesting cards - Incubation / Incongruity for consistant creatures Ancient Stirrings style

Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip offers card advantage and then stablization in the danger zone.

Faerie Seer / Spellstutter Sprite /ninjitsu offers tools- not just for tempo/disruption, but also to tuck confidant back into hand.

Devour Flesh old school edict effect which can gain life in a pinch. Very situational

Font of Agonies interesting but impractical

Gonti's Machinations Black lightning helix/rift bolt hybrid. Often too slow, may work here.

Plunge into Darkness a weird nieche pick that sometimes saw play in ad nausiem. The lifegain mode is surprisingly strong in bitterblossom lists, and the 'oh crud I need an answer' is decent against combo.

Shadowfeed I saw this in someones sideboard instead of surgical- it tested surprisingly ok, and in a deck which needs life total manipulation is a contender.

Snowmen1 on Dreadhorde Arcanist Deck

Hey thanks for the comment TitaniumChopstick. If you look at the decklist I linked you will see that the deck I have constructed is a jund style deck that involves powerful one for one removal to disable the my opponents while playing powerful creatures such as Dark Confidant and the new card, Dreadhorde Arcanist , to generate value and win the game. the main use of Dreadhorde Arcanist is to flashback powerful one cmc spells, which is why the deck is in rakdos colors as it has some of the best like Thoughtseize , Inquisition of Kozilek , Lightning Bolt , Fatal Push , Unearth , and Surgical Extraction . Since the deck is mostly cmc one cards that are powerful to play, the deck has no discard outlets and plans to simply cast the spells to put them into the graveyard for Dreadhorde Arcanist to reuse. While the deck is mostly cmc 1 spells, there are a few 2 amd 3 cmc cards like Kolaghan's Command and Collective Brutality which cant be flashed back with Dreadhorde Arcanist on its own. The deck mostly runs higher cmc spells because of their sheer power, but utilizing other multifunctional cards such Funeral Charm and Sword of Light and Shadow , you can pump Dreadhorde Arcanist and allow the option of flashing these spells back as well. While these cards are used to flash back these powerful spells, it is pretty easy to see that these cards are also individually powerful, and are not only in the deck for the purpose of increasing Dreadhorde Arcanist 's power. It is in a deck like this that I think Dreadhorde Arcanist is most powerful, and Id like to know your thoughts on the build.

As an update for everyone else who saw this thread before, I took out one Fatal Push and my one-of Slaughter Pact in favor of two Flame Slash , and I also took the two Shadowfeed out of the 75 altogether in favor of playing Collective Brutality . I may also find room for an additional Collective Brutality in the mainboard.

I added flame slash because I found that the deck still has a problem with removing big creatures. A creature four or more toughness is actually very hard to deal with, and if that creature also has a high converted mana cost, there is almost nothing that the deck can do. Additionally, with Dreadhorde Arcanist , casting and then immediatly flashing Flame Slash back increases the range of damage the deck can do to a creature with one spell from six, with Lightning Bolt , to eight. This gives the deck more of a fighting chance against a Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis , which the deck could deal with previously, but only as long as Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis did not enter the battlefield before being in the graveyard for it can be hit with Surgical Extraction .

I added Collective Brutality for the sole purpose of combating burn. Once testing against burn, I found that Shadowfeed did little to nothing against it. While I found the card to actually be very useful in graveyard matchups, the main purpose of the card was to deal with burn, so I cut and looked for a better card. Rakdos does not really have much in the way of lifegain, and most burn hate that could be feasably played would be artifacts such as Dragon's Claw and Sun Droplet . I think I would run dragons claw since it can allow the deck to gain more life than it loses, especially with Dreadhorde Arcanist allowing for you to cast red cards twice, but burn has a lot of ways to deal with artifacts, and I feel that a Dragon's Claw would quickly get destroyed by a Smash to Smithereens or Destructive Revelry . Though I can see reason to run Dragon's Claw or another artifact to deal with burn, I opted to play Collective Brutality because it allows me to discard two additional cards and use all of its modes to disable burn more efficiently. Additionally, while dragons claw is only really good against burn, Collective Brutality can be used against Storm decks, and also helps to solve wrong half problems that interractive midrange decks often face.

I will make an update to the decklist shortly.

Thanks for the comment lagotripha. Rakdos Charm is a card I looked at, but decided against it. It is a good card, and can be played easily since it has some really good utility. I looked at Death's Shadow , but don't really want to end up trying to lose life to play it as a threat. As for Stillmoon Cavalier , I dont see it worth playing another 3 drop without it gaining me life or just like winning the game or something. I played Wizard's Lightning in a previous version of the deck that I actually have linked in the description. The problems with the card that I have had is that it is 3 mana, which hurts a lot with Dark Confidant , and you cant flash it back very easily with Dreadhorde Arcanist . Finally, I think Shadowfeed has a spot in this deck unless I find a better replacement. It gains life, which is pretty hard to find in black actually, and with a 1 mana cvc, I can flash it back with Dreadhorde Arcanist . Additionally it can be just a little bit more hate for the graveyard, being able to take out that one Vengevine or that one Arclight Phoenix . Shadowfeed has been really good which is funny. I guess that Healing Salve is good when its in black. Thanks for the comment and suggestions.
