Secret Door

Artifact Creature — Wall

Defender

[[symbol:4]: Venture into the dungeon. Activate this ability only as a sorcery. (If you aren't venturing through a dungeon, choose one of the dungeon cards you own from outside the game, put it into the command zone and put a venture counter on the first room of that dungeon. All effects of that room trigger. When you venture into the dungeon while you have a dungeon in the command zone, advance to the next room downward of your choice and triggering all effects of that room. When you have resolved the effects of the last room of the dungeon, remove that dungeon from the game. You can only venture through one dungeon at a time.)

Thanks for checking out my deck zapyourtumor!

I'm sure I could drop down to 3 copies of Arcades, the Strategist and still be fine, but he's probably the most important creature in the deck since getting him out almost guarantees I'll never have an empty hand, so I like playing a full set for the added consistency even if it means a bit of redundancy.

Wall of Tanglecord was only added to the mainboard to help against decks with lots of flyers but that's more of a sideboard thing anyways and you make a good point about not having very many 1 drops so I think I'll take your advice and replace them with 3 Perimeter Captain. I would replace Secret Door with the 4th Captain but I just really like having something to dump all of my mana into when I get the infinite mana combo out.

Thassa's Intervention may not be a great early game card but it's amazing mid-late game. When you get the infinite mana combo out then it just becomes a 2-card tutor with the added bonus of having a counter spell stapled onto it in case someone tries to board wipe me.

CoCo and Aether Vial are definitely straight upgrades but like you said they're out of my price range for this deck.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I feel like you should only need 3 Arcades. Even though he is the main engine of the deck and a removal magnet, he's still a legendary 4 drop.

I think some number of copies of Perimeter Captain could be moved to the mainboard, as it's generally the best one drop in these types of decks. Since you have so many 2 drops and not many one drops, I'd cut Secret Door and Wall of Tanglecord for 4 Captains maindeck.

Thassa's Intervention seems like a very strange pick.

I feel like this deck really wants Collected Company or Aether Vial, although they are probably out of your price range. Both of those cards have dropped a decent amount in price though, so if you ever want to upgrade the deck I think one of those two cards would be a decent choice.

Update!

Out: Wall of Roots and Secret Door

In: Robe of Stars and Glaring Spotlight

I'd like to play test Robe of Stars and Glaring Spotlight in this deck to increase protection of my creatures. To make room for these two cards, I removed what I think are the weaker Defenders in the deck in terms of payoff.

TheSigillite Good stuff! Bear in mind God-Pharaoh's Faithful isn't on Arena, sadly - currently trialling Secret Door in its place, though it's not exactly blowing me away.

9-lives So it is! Secret Door felt some nice tech for longer games, but realistically it'll do nothing - good points, cheers. I'll swap it out for something, though Dragon's Eye Savants is perhaps a touch too slow. I do like Azorius Charm, but the extra cost does slow things down a tad, especially in a budget deck with a worse land base. Lazotep Plating is lovely, but again same issue - plus, Dive Down adds extra damage when necessary.

Thank you very much! Your deck's shown me some really good optimisations, I'll take a look at switching things up!

My deck is very similar to this!

Perhaps add Moon-Blessed Cleric instead of Secret Door so you can pull a High Alert with turn 3 and casting it on turn 4? Secret Door has defender, which Huatli, the Sun's Heart can't convert. Perhaps Dragon's Eye Savants? Instead of Opt perhaps Azorius Charm? Maybe Lazotep Plating instead of Dive Down? It gives hexproof to all creatures and you as well, not to mention a zombie 1/1.

If you want to focus on the high toughness aspect more, I'd recommend moving to a Walls list.

Walls wants to use the things like Huatli, Assault Formation and such to hit hard, but it also employs a High Alert + Axebane Guardian combo. With four creatures with defender in play, you make infinite mana. This shouldn't be your main plan, of course, but it is a very fun include that means that if the game goes long, and with a walls deck, it probably will, you have a big advantage.

You also get Arcades, the Strategist , who lets you draw a TON of cards and is just the best payoff for big butts period.

Walls you'll want to consider include Dragon's Eye Sentry , Excavated Wall , Jaddi Offshoot , Secret Door , Wall of Runes , The Birth of Meletis , Saruli Caretaker , and Portcullis Vine .

You also get to run the amazing Tower Defense . If you cast tower defense with a good board and High Alert/Arcades out, you sort of just win on the spot.

Hey Eloniel, I'm not from France, but that is a very fun coincidence :D

Secret Door will replace Steel Wall , it is very fun and may sometimes be used as a mana dump. Hopefully there is a cool and thematic Dungeon for Arcades! Sadly there is no green wall in the new set:(

I'm still not sold on Flumph (even though it has a pretty neat Full Art Card), but I'm very interested in your experience with it!
