Sapphire Charm Discussion

Crawlspace might be useful. Levitation to block their frying creatures. Sapphire Charm is a good little helper. Shimmer is good against a mono or dual commander deck to slow them down. Levitation is just nice to give them all flying just in case, but not needed for you. More seen as a way to block their creatures always. Have a great day! :)

Hyperalgialysis on Is this a decent commander?

I agree they are all solid spells. To jump off what the above comment is getting at, spells with multiple modes are going to be very good. Insidious Will is a good example, since it is rarely a dead card because it gives you many choices to pick from. Unsubstantiate is another good one not mentioned yet. Failure / Comply Farm / Market and even things like Sapphire Charm and Piracy Charm are good for the same reason. The more situations the card can be used in the more likely it is you wont be stuck with "dead card".

Hey I'm replying to your comment on my deck I'm Blue. My first question is, are you a 1 v. 1 EDH player? I noticed you are trying to lower your CMC and that may simply suit Talrand, but I also wondered if that is just a symptom of 1 v 1 mentality. I'm not sure.

One reason I hesitate to run more cantrips is that that is pretty much all they do, draw me a card and create a 2/2, along with a small ability. Personally, I love those types of cards. Ponder is one of the most lovely card designs I've seen (art too). I'd love to play more like it. Whispers of the Muse, Quicken (which I am seriously considering since it would allow me to toss out one of my 11 sorceries if I don't have Vedalken Orrery), Clairvoyance, Sapphire Charm etc. These are cards I'd love to add, and even non-cantrip U cost cards like Spy Network, Retraced Image seem fun to me. That is because I like cheap spells that do something neat. And with Talrand, each of these also throws a 2/2 drake out there.

I wondered if in a multiplayer game, with all these cheap and comparatively weak spells, won't it fizzle out and eventually lose in the long game. If the idea of Talrand is to rush down opponents, then I might understand that more. But I haven't understood it to be that way unless it's 1v1, which is not what I'm going for.

Leyline of Anticipation is out of my budget, and I already had Vedalken Orrery.

Eventually I think Misdirection would be a card I'd get. I thought about Turn Aside, but I for the same reasons listed earlier, I didn't want a bunch of cheap spells that don't do much, in this case, it wouldn't even cantrip. But without Talrand out there, the deck is dead, so, maybe Turn Aside would be worth running until I get Misdirection.

That is one reason to play more powerful spells. Some of the high CMC spells are for the purpose of keeping me in the game even if I struggle to keep Talrand out there.

Runechanter's Pike should be in there. I don't have one yet. I don't usually run equipment unless it really helps the deck, but being able to attach that to any of the drakes is pretty nice.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll copy this and post it to my deck as well.

Hey, it's me again. A brief glance over the list, and I feel that you have a little too much card draw in here, and not enough threatening stuff. I understand the need for him to be a support character, but what if the Archenemy eliminates everyone else? Jace doesn't have any threats to defend himself with. Things like Frost Titan, Errant Ephemeron (for flying), and Chasm Skulker seem like stuff to defend yourself with.

With the increased amount of planeswalkers Oath of Jace might be helpful to you. For card draw, I might recommend Vendilion Clique and Sapphire Charm because there are multiple options with them, although I understand that V-Clique might be a bit out of budget. But those are my recommendations.
