Sage Owl Discussion

lamocomp1 on Yuriko, the Doomsday Shadow

Jonas_Poponas how is Sleep perfoming for you? Agreed on Bident/Piracy matter - mostly, because Vandalblast is a thing.

I think you can improve some of the evasive creatures you use for ninjutsu.

Out:

Looter il-Kor - you don't rely on him dealing combat damage anyway

Inkfathom Witch - I was playing it, but i have dimir zombies in my playgroup and it just does nothing against them

Prickly Boggart - same problem as witch

Cavern Harpy - how is it working for you? i feel the fact you can't sometimes drop it turn 2 sucks

In:

Sage Owl

Spire Owl

Thalakos Seer

Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive

All of them are evasive, but do smthing when you use them as ninjutsu fodder, except Tetsuko, which gives Yuriko and couple of ninjas unblockable.

PS Ninjas and Owls - my Yuriko version, similar idea, less budget:)

Have you thought about Thalakos Seer and Insidious Dreams?

Insidious Dreams is arguable better finisher than Doomsday. Thalakos Seer has shadow and payoff when ninjutsu is used on it.

There are some useful changelings (they are ninjas), like: Amoeboid Changeling, Shapesharer, Cairn Wanderer and maybe even Skeletal Changeling

Notable mentions Spire Owl, Sage Owl and Augury Owl

Seems like you could use a Contingency Plan to Index the top of the library.

Other cards that let you manipulate the top of the deck are: Sage of Epityr, Mystic Speculation, Sage Owl, Augury Owl, Taigam's Scheming, Second Sight and Halimar Depths <- too slow?

With all the Top Library manipulation maybe you should add some of the miracle spells for control Devastation Tide, Temporal Mastery Terminus until you are able to manifest, flicker, wait a turn for summoning sickness and then get to attack.

I once built a tribal-bird pauper deck; and the cheap cards from there that I could recommend are Augury Owl, Sage Owl, and Spire Owl.

But since your working on budget and not rarity, I think that you could fit in a Land Tax if you took out your six 2-4 dollar nonbasics.

To make it modern legal, replace the Spire Owl with Sage Owl, and Memory Lapse with Lapse of Certainty.

All of your critters fly, so why not Favorable Winds or Gravitational Shift?

Though, I feel like Unstable Mutation would be better paired with Blighted Agent, who would kill the opponent if left unanswered.

Another way to fix that issue could be with adding 1 extra Warden of Evos Isle, getting rid of the Sage Owls and adding an extra Augury Owl. Dash Hopes could be a fun card if youre able to make sure mana isnt a problem. Also, it might be worth taking more advantage of Stormscape Familiar with more black spells that have colorless in the cost. Once again, great deck!

Hey! Love the Owl themed deck, really fun, really quirky and interesting. I would however, add evolving wilds, in order to help shuffle your deck when the top cards you get with Sage Owl arent satisfactory.
