Tempo, in my opinion, is a way to either gain or remove an opponent's speed in the game. Similar to football, you can be very quick and maintain tempo by casting lots of little creatures, causing your opponent to be behind in the board state. You can also cause tempo loss by things like Reflector Mage Rubble etc, putting your opponent behind. Control runs a lot of effects that dictate how the game will be played. Discard, removal etc, the permission style you mentioned. They allow a player to be in control of the board, hence the name. The way you described it made it appear as tho a deck like this must be counter magic based. Pox decks are very controlling and run no countermagic.

Reduce Rubble might be good in this deck. It's not land destruction, but it is mana denial so it might fit the strategy.

Is this deck budget? If not, Torrential Gearhulk is a great card since it has flash and is a huge blocker and attacker. Also, if you're looking for some instant-speed cards, you have Magma Spray, Grip of the Roil, Reduce to Rubble, and Chilling Grasp.

Another thing that's awesome about the Aftermath cards is:

  • "While not on the stack, the characteristics of a split card are the combination of its two halves. For example, Destined / Lead is ... both an instant card and a sorcery card ..."
  • "If another effect allows you to cast a split card with aftermath from a graveyard, you may cast either half ..."

So Torrential Gearhulk can allow you to cast cards like Memory, Rubble, and Comply form the 'yard.
