Reparations

Enchantment

Whenever an opponent plays a spell that targets you or a creature you control, you may draw a card.

Upon re-reading the question, I think I see where the confusion is coming from. When Render Silent says "counter target spell" that means YOU are choosing the spell to target that RS will counter. It does not mean that you are choosing a spell that itself is targeting something. Most Magic cards are phrased in a similar way when they target something. Catapult Master exiles a creature YOU target, not a creature that is targeting something itself. Font of Ire deals damage to a player YOU target, not a player that's targeting something else. The wording is "target x". For the alternative, look for wording similar to "that targets x" like in Battlewise Hoplite's heroic ability, Reparations, or the aforementioned Confound. This will let you know the card cares what other things are targeting.

desmondwrite I'm also looking for a rare card called Reparations to help with the draw issue.

I think Jihad and Crusade are on the fence. I do not think they are bad enough to warrant a ban but I'm not going to loose sleep over them being gone either.

The blanket term crusade is fine. The original card was referring to the actual crusades, as in the multiple incursions into Palestinian. Which for a game I think can also be fine. Obviously some one can be a less-than-nice person at the table with crusade but that could be just about any card. I get the argument against crusade in that, even today, those military campaigns are a sore subject in the Middle East. The reprints have been more generic use of the term crusade as with Elspeth.

The term jihad is also fine. It typically means holy war but, with context (like crusade) can just mean a religious fervency towards some cause. Mainly the problem is in more recent history with the war on terrorism and 'global jihad.' But I do not believe a super-minority of Muslims should ruin the entire word.

I am still against banning cleanse outright. I have never seen a specifically aimed race-baiting deck with cleanse in it or even heard of the existence of one before this thread. Do I doubt one exists, no. But it seems ridiculous to ban it because there might be 5 really dumb players out there.

Nothing is stopping dumb people from getting every black-color hating card from magic's history and making a deck out of it and then claiming it a race-deck instead of an anti-color deck for one specific magic color. The best way to stop this is to not play with those people or just shut them down when they pull the deck out, not banning a card that, if you look really deeply into, could be racist.

On separate issue, I'm guessing WOTC isn't done banning cards. There are arguments against many of the cards with horsemanship for being charterers (iffy spelling) or cards like Reparations. Though, if and when they ban more cards for this, they should give us their specific reason to help better understand rather than the community scouring the internets for answers as why something is bad or not.

Great, I have no use for a benign bomb!

Seriously though, I love Wild Research — it’s possibly my favorite Magic card. I’d probably stuff Rhystic Study and Mystic Remora, and maybe even Reparations, into the deck. They’re all tutorable bombs that will support you in building a winning

Looks fun! I would personally suggest Anguished Unmaking over Utter End (I prefer the lowered cost), and even in a voting deck Illusion of Choice seems very situational: maybe Swords to Plowshares or Reparations instead?

V 1.2

  • I pulled out Spirit Link in favor of Crackdown, to add a bit more protection

  • I moved Corrupted Conscience, since Infect might be a bit too powerful for my group but I could swap it back in for a more competitive game.

  • I thought I needed a bit more card draw, so I put Pariah in to the sideboard with the addition of Crackdown providing additional protection and added Reparations.

I feel like I don't have enough auras but I'll do some play-testing tonight to see if that's actually the case.
