Razorfin Abolisher Discussion

Hey dude :)This really look like my first version of Kumena. After several plays with my friends I realize the deck :1 - is too fast and you afraid others players so you have take the aggro too quickly and you have turn 3 or 4 everybody against you2 - is extremely vulnerable to wraths and every multiplayers deck have a whole bunch of it. Furthermore, it's extremely difficult to catch back the game after a wrath

It seems like you want to develop the +1/+1 counters theme. If you do that you should put Razorfin Abolisher because it can both save any of your creature with a +1/+1 counter on it and bounce any of ennemie creature with a counter on it. Simic Fluxmage is a great tool too for this kind of deck.Kopala, Warden of Waves was in my first version but he is in fact kinda useless in multiplayers formats where people play with wraths and where big amount of mana are involved.Inspiring Call, Heroic Intervention, Steely Resolve, Fallowsage are must have in your deck. And of course Kiora's Follower because he's one of the best combo piece of the whole game.Master of Waves and Wake Thrasher are maybe the best merfolks ever.Merrow Commerce is strong in duel but you would prefer Quest for Renewal or Intruder Alarm in multiplayer format.True-Name Nemesis is bad in multiplayer because you're telling to one guy "you can't attack me so you have to attack the others" and others are just going to blast it because of the 1 hp. Furthermore, kinda expensive.Having unblockable creatures + islandwalk is maybe too much. I kicked the islandwalk part because it takes too many cards to run it and you can't properly attack the manabase of 3 people like you will do in duel.

Keep in mind that Merfolk lords don't give +1/+1 counters to your other creatures. It's periodic and once they got killed it's over. That doesn't really fit your deck theme (except for the tribal part)

I don't think I have the best version of Kumena but I have already done several changes and I enjoy playing with it a lot, take a look :)

Thanks! Those are some great suggestions, I'm especially interested in Razorfin Abolisher and it's synergy with a card I've always wanted to put in a deck: Musician

For the general Maybes: Curiosity or Quicken would seem nice. Cathedral of War for more damage with fewer creatures. Depending on how Merfolky you make this, there are some great options for versatility to your deck (more counters, mill, draw, etc). Lullmage Mentor, Sigil Tracer, Deepchannel Mentor, Leech Bonder, Cursecatcher. Merfolk Sovereign among others.

Switching to tribal may throw off the mojo this deck has, but give a second look to cards: Razorfin Abolisher, Saprazzan Legate (tribal merfolk loves to change land types), Thada Adel, Acquisitor, Waterfront Bouncer.

Welpp,

You could probably do with not running Mistfolk or Spellskite, though they are good. They require a lot of available resources and require that Kraj is up and running to prevent him from being removed. Mistfolk is just a more flavorful Lightning Greaves that also can't be blown up. That's useful, but maybe not indispensable. So, here's some removal suggestions for if you want to include one or all of them:

Argothian Elder -- Fun idea for an infinite combo, but much more expensive and much less useful than Magus of the Candelabra

Beguiler of Wills -- Gaining control of creatures is also great, but this one is very situational, and less likely to work without Kraj online

Razorfin Abolisher -- Just bad. Remove it, or replace it with Tradewind Rider

I noticed that you don't have a Kiora's Follower either. That's pretty useful. I would probably cut Horseshoe Crab for it. Sure, the crab is good for the untap ability, but you have plenty and will always be trying to assemble a combo using those abilities. So, crab eats a whole card slot -- especially when you are never going to tutor for it over something more resilient (Morphling) or something more usable (abuse-able) (Aphetto Alchemist)

Oh yes you are right with the Razorfin Abolisher and Power Conduit combo nice! The problem with Power Conduit is that it actually doesn't go with Hardened Scales, as you have to remove 2 counters instead of one to have the creature NOT die, meaning that you will have a creature do nothing for one turn :PThat said i would put Power Conduit to Sustitute Hrdened scales, but then my deck would be too weak, for as you can see all the Undying creatures are mana cheap (and thus a bit too weak). (I had thought of it before too xD)

And if you add Razorfin Abolisher, you could remove a +1/+1 counter from one of your creatures to put on your opponents, then immediately bounce them with Razorfin Abolisher. Just a concept.

Maybe Razorfin Abolisher as to retun to hand your own creatures to stop them from dying?
