Protection of the Hekma

Enchantment

If a source an opponent controls would deal damage to you, prevent 1 of that damage.

With the addition of Intangible Virtue, your nontoken creatures lose a lot of value. For one, they don't benefit from the buff. Second, Aven Wind Guide becomes completely redundant with everything already having vigilance and everything but Raise the Alarm already having flying. Third, Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive can't benefit creatures being buffed by the Virtue. I don't think this is a bad thing though since Virtue is probably better than the aforementioned creatures. That said, I think replacing them to focus on more anthem effects that can take advantage of the natural evasion granted by flying could be beneficial. The first card that comes to mind is Crusade, but it was among the cards banned by wizards for cultural insensitivity so run it in casual at your own peril. Glorious Anthem is a fair bit worse. Also, if you want to focus entirely on flyers, Empyrean Eagle, Favorable Winds, and Rally of Wings are options. My final suggestion, if you're feeling spicy, would be to run something like Godhead of Awe or the cheaper but flying-removing Humility to level the playing field and make Protection of the Hekma more viable.

As a reminder, Protection of the Hekma doesn't prevent damage from your own permanents, so it does not work with some of the combos you have it labeled in currently. It does act like an extra Ghostly Prison though, so that is a plus right? Or has that part really been effective?

Also, I wonder what your feelings are one spells that revert your life total back up to it starting amount? I'm mainly thinking of Oketra's Last Mercy (at least for a recent example) but there's a surprisingly high number of cards that set your life total directly. And there's also other cards that scale with the life you've gained or lost in a single turn besides just Children of Korlis. have you considered those any?

Oooh! I love Near-Death Experience! Finally a place to put the shiny (and very warped) FTV version I have! Will have to add that, Fortune Thief, and Angel's Grace as soon as I can.

Suns_Champion, ya I got a lot of those in, but you did point out a couple I missed. Comeuppance seems sweet, as effectively a wrath for one opponent, and fetchable with Sunforger (which I had been considering, but left out bc I didn't know if I had enough cards to get with it. I'm adding it after I add Comeuppance and maybe some of those Fogs). I already had Selfless Squire, Worship, and Rakdos Charm. Not a huge fan of Deflecting Palm here, as in my meta the only time it'll do a ton of damage is after a Craterhoof Behemoth resolves or something similar. Wrath of Goad seems at the very least a lot of fun. And a tad more damage prevention would probably be smart, so Gisela, Blade of Goldnight or something similar should be in here (Is Protection of the Hekma is probably too little for too much mana. Maybe Ajani Steadfast for the ult? His other abilities might be a good wincon, either by slowly getting in with Marchesa or pumping up a ton of tokens).

DrukenReaps: Gonna read through your deck as soon as I post this. I know Aikido is a much better version of what I'm trying to do here, but my playgroup always tries to kill me first, so politics isn't my strong point.

cdkime: As I said above, thanks so much for suggesting Near-Death Experience! Didn't even think about that. I'll test Soul Link and the others, since as I said above I do need a little more damage prevention so I don't just force people to kill me. On that note, the Fogs might make their way in, starting with Batwing Brume and Pollen Lullaby. Darkness and Holy Day will really only be considered if I go with the Paradox Engine idea, but I'll have to make sure I have enough instants w/ CMC 2 or 1 for Isochron Scepter, and enough cards that will make Paradox Engine useful elsewhere. Or maybe I just add a lot more tutors.

Thanks everyone for so much support on this deck so far!

If I have Ajani Steadfast's emblem and also Protection of the Hekma, how much damage would I take from a source of damage from an opponent?

Do I take 1? 0? Do I choose which one i replace the damage with?

Thanks in advance...

Protection of the Hekma v Urza's Armor? It's cheaper but requires white and for the source to be an opponent's

EDIT: and the art. the art is a big factor. sand magic, mf.

Control is the way to go dude. Rock on.Some suggestions:Disallow instead of CancelProtection of the Hekma is useless in my eyes. You need help to make it to later turns. Try to get some cheaper cards to help you do that. Maybe something like Aether Meltdown. Takes away the damage and doesn't help them use recursion abilities. And all that for just 2cmcBesides that some more universal control would be nice. I'm thinking about Cast Out. That kind of stuff Besides that i love the overflowing insight and approach combo. Keep it up!

If you're going to splash white I would maybe run Gideon's Intervention instead of Protection of the Hekma. It will prevent more damage going through and if played properly can drastically slow down Mardu Vehicles. And it even has a lower CMC.
