Proclamation of Rebirth Discussion

I like the way you categorize the two subarchetypes here. With the HEAVY caveat that I don't have that many reps with the deck yet, here are a few thoughts:

  • Something to keep in mind when deckbuilding is that each non-White card we add to the 75 reduces the value of Martyr of Sands by 3 life, which in turn reduces the value of Serra Ascendant.
  • For this reason, Rule of Law might be worth looking at vs. Damping Sphere, and Runed Halo (thought it's super-pricey) or additional Nevermores vs. Sorcerous Spyglass. There are obviously other tradeoffs in the cards too, so I'm not sure what would be best for your playstyle/meta/75. But it's maybe something to think about :-)
  • I was running 3x Surgical Extraction in the side for a while and it saved my bacon a number of times. But I recently switched to Rest in Peace ... partly because it's a White card, but also because it barely hurts us post-board (since opponents almost always bring in Gravehate against us, making Proclamation of Rebirth dead in hand anyways). Here too, I'm not really recommending RIP over Extraction (especially since Extraction vs. Tron is sooooooo good); just throwing out some more thoughts ...
  • A few other points on the Gideon package: The Gideons are very strong vs. Wrath effects and Planeswalkers (which can be a struggle otherwise). Also, Gideon of the Trials' Emblem can help vs. some Combo decks.
  • Speaking of 'Walkers: I've tried Hex Parasite and it's very strong, but it suffers sometimes as a non-White card too. I'm on Flash-flyers lately, and Restoration Angel is my current favorite ... Archangel Avacyn  Flip was good but a little too cute, and though I love Aven Mindcensor's effect I like Resto's bigger size.

Draw well!

10 lands is less than half of what you need. Yes, there are 3 signets in your deck. No, they are not enough either.

Also, what I meant was that perhaps it would be easier to adapt the martyrproc shell, to life-gain-wincons. Martyrproc wins by gaining life, and holding on until the constant card advantage from Proclamation of Rebirth ends the game.

Your current build will most likely beat burn, but not much else. You don't really stop an opponent from building card advantage against you. Many games will be you popping life-gain after lifegain, against an opponent who plays bigger and bigger threats, and you'll be lacking mana like crazy (to curve directly to 5, you need 26 mana sources or something like that).

I think you should find something more reliable to gain life, other than random creatures. Auriok Salvagers and Sunbeam Spellbomb could do, but other ways of getting the spellbomb back would also work. The spellbomb could be replaced by other cheap artifacts - perhaps you're on to something with the Scroll of Avacyn. Martyr of Sands and Proclamation of Rebirth is an option, but is better when you have some way of filling your hand with white cards (hello Squadron Hawk). Yet another option is Isochron Scepter and a lifegaining instant (I like this idea, since you can play sweepers in the early game without losing much).

Martyr of Sands and Proclamation of Rebirth, no need to bother with black cards at all. And Serra Ascendant fits well enough too. It's perhaps a new variation of martyrproc, with enchantments as wincon, you are making?

Honestly you could probably get away with dropping the Plains, I would add a few Temple of Silence's and a few more Ghost Quarter's. Maybe 1 more Shambling Vent. Sideboard I would add more Gifts and maybe some High Priest of Penance.

Orzhov Charm Could work quite well in here, as well as Proclamation of Rebirth.

Other than that it looks good, +1 from me.

If this is more casual, Swords is great. If you want to drop into Modern events, maybe swap it out for Condemn (for your creatures) or Path to Exile (for opponents' creatures).

Maybe drop Accord. Sticking an Evra seems to be the best plan here.

Suture Priest might be more important than Pridemate since Evra is the win con and Archangel of Thune handles counters.

I would either drop many of the bigger creatures and play the smaller ones with ETB life-gain triggers + Archangel + Evra or maybe just play the bigger creatures, including Archangel of Thune, as 1-ofs to get around Extraction and similar effects. I would also choose between a defensive, Felidar Soverign game plan or an aggro Evra one. Having 8 6-drop win cons seems like too much.

Let's assume we have a list with 24 lands (to make sure we can cast 6-drops), maybe 6 instants, and 6 enchantments, giving us

Now we have a way to get Evra damage across more quickly if the opponent's shields are down. I think I would play a little cautiously to make sure that I could trigger some life-gain with something like a Martyr after switching my life total with Evra's power.

Sideboard would be something like:

A more defensive build might look something like this:

With Evras or Archangels in place of Sovereigns in the sideboard.

What do you think?

Very cool concept!

I worry about the fragility of depending on your commander for your combos, although a Boros commander is certainly great for this deck. Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, might be the best one for this deck, but I bet Razia, Boros Archangel, would work well, too. I might suggest that Avacyn go in the 99 as a trigger for Repercussion.

Neheb, the Eternal also seems broken for this deck.

Have you ever tested with other creatures and spells that might trigger Repercussion more frequently? With more tutors to fetch for it, like Academy Rector, Idyllic Tutor, and Plea for Guidance?

In terms of spells that might reasonably consistently trigger Repercussion, have you tested with additional, efficient "...damage to each creature" spells like Balefire Dragon, Anger of the Gods, Bloodfire Dwarf, Bloodfire Kavu, Breath of Darigaaz, Caldera Hellion, Cave-In, Chandra, Flamecaller, Devastating Dreams, Faultline, Firespout, Firestorm, Incendiary Command, Pyroclasm, Kozilek's Return, Krark-Clan Shaman, Magma Vein, Martyr of Ashes (+ Proclamation of Rebirth), Meteor Blast, Pyrohemia, Rupture, Ryusei, the Falling Star, Scourge of Kher Ridges, Scouring Sands, Slagstorm, Slice and Dice (cycled), Starstorm, Subterranean Tremors, Sulfurous Blast, Sweltering Suns, Thunder Dragon, Tremor, Electrickery, Volcanic Fallout, Volcanic Spray, Whipflare, or Yamabushi's Storm?

It seems like tutor, ramp, win with direct creature damage is the path to victory with or without Avacyn, so the more cards dedicated to those three things, the better.

Happy brewing!

Match Report 01/23/2018

Overall Record

Games 3 - 2

Matches 2 - 1

Match 1 - Win - Jeskai Control

I won a 1 game match when he decked. I kept gaining life with the Proclamation of Rebirth engine and was able to have more cards in my library with Mistveil Plains. I could never get a threat on the battlefield to kill him. He didn't conceded earlier because Seth didn't think we'd be able to finish a second/third games anyway. I didn't feel like I was playing slow but need to be faster.

Match 2 - Loss - Esper Ojutat

The Bogey man gets me again. I don't know what to do and can't seem to beat this deck. I need to figure out what cards to expose to Counterspell. Kevin told me he thinks that Nevermore is not a good card in the matchup. He has too many ways to deal with it, and I'm basically taking a turn off. I think Martyr Black might be better.

Match 3 - Win - Death and Taxes

Budget version. Pretty similar to Death and Taxes but was playing Worship. Tim brings a different budget type deck every week. Game one I won with an active Serra Ascendant on turn 3, and game 2 went long with a Wrath of God finally clearing the way.

Only 6 players this week after like 15 last week. It was a massive shift.

Did you consider using Proclamation of Rebirth and Vexing Devil in the build? Could be fun :)
