Examples of cards with protection that aren't protection from specific colors:

Warren-Scourge Elf - Protection from Goblins (goblins can't block or target it, but other creature types can, even other red creatures)

Emrakul, the Promised End - Protection from instants (you can still point a sorcery or enchantment at it)

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn - Protection from colored spells (you can still target it with abilities or colorless spells)

Horizon Drake - Protection from Lands (lands that turn into creatures can't block or damage it, lands that target with an ability can't target it)

Polis Crusher - Protection from enchantments (no Auras allowed, but non-enchantment spells are fine)

True-Name Nemesis - Protection from a chosen player (that player can't do anything to the Nemesis, but other players can)

Progenitus - Protection from everything (you basically can't do anything to it)

Remember that something with protection can't be:

  1. Damaged by sources with the specified quality (Goblins, lands, everything, etc.)

  2. Enchanted or Equipped by permanents with the specified quality

  3. Blocked by creatures with the specified quality

  4. Targeted by spells with the specified quality, or by abilities from sources of that quality

The quality in question doesn't have to be a color.

Looks good man. Here's some card suggestions, mostly on the cheap:

Oblation - shuffle opponents commanders, or whatever else

Swiftfoot Boots - your commander will be a removal target, give him hexproof

Sol Ring - Every EDH deck should have this card

Illusionist's Bracers - Every time you activate your commanders abilities, this gives you the same affect a second time

Keen Sense / Snake Umbra - These pair with your commanders' Lightning Bolt ability. Each time you bolt, you draw

Basilisk Collar - This also works with the bolt ability. Turns the bolt into "Destroy target creature, gain 3 life"

Oblivion Ring - solid catch-all removal

Gratuitous Violence - Double the damage of your bolt ability and the damage of your creatures

Temur Sabertooth - If you have 12 lands, your commander, and this guy in play you get infinite mana, meaning you win the game.

Rampaging Baloths - one of the best landfall guys

Mina and Denn, Wildborn - Play extra lands, gives trample to creatures, and lets you return lands to activate landfall more

Darien, King of Kjeldor - just an awesome white bomb I ran across

Angel of Serenity - Kill everybody's commander, or temporarily remove any other threatening creature

Acidic Slime - solid removal that serves double duty

Harmonize - great green draw spell

Grow from the Ashes, Nissa's Pilgrimage, Nissa's Renewal, Peregrination, Untamed Wilds - all solid pieces of ramp. Your 2 CMC ramping elves are pretty slow and weak to removal/board wipes. Plus, using land ramp rather than creature ramp increases your commander's utility when it comes into play and makes getting that infinite mana combo easier. With infinite mana, you win the game if your commander is out and no one can remove it at instant speed.

Some of the weaker cards that I'd suggest removing: Akroan Hoplite, Polis Crusher, Relentless Raptor, Sylvan Primordial (this card is banned in EDH), Budoka Gardener, Quirion Elves, Skyshroud Elf, Sylvan Caryatid.

Nylea171:
I feel your deck just needs more focus. You have several good Gruul cards in the deck, but due to the inconsistency of the draw and ramp, you will have inconsistency with curving out. Based on the majority of the cards in the deck, I'd say this deck is a modern deck. Based on that I would say even if your planning casually, I'd be hesitant to play cards like:

Boon Satyr, Emperor's Vanguard, Grazing Whiptail, Polis Crusher, Snapping Sailback, Charging Monstrosaur, Burning Sun's Avatar

CMC 4 or greater must be very selective, even in green. I would go with a more streamline approach to cards over 4 CMC. Here is an example of your deck:

Creatures (28):

CMC 1 (8):
4x Elvish Mystic
4x Kird Ape

CMC 2 (8):
4x Burning-Tree Emissary
2x Flinthoof Boar
2x Heir of the Wilds

CMC 3 (6):
2x Atzocan Archer
1x Combat Celebrant
2x Fanatic of Xenagos
1x Ranging Raptors

CMC 4 (5):
4x Ghor-Clan Rampager
1x Nylea, God of the Hunt

CMC 5 (0):

CMC 6 (1):
1x Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

Instants (8):
2x Heroic Intervention
4x Lightning Strike
2x Magma Jet

Planewalkers (2):
1x Nissa, Vital Force
1x Samut, the Tested

Land (22):
2x Cinder Glade
8x Forest
8x Mountain
4x Rootbound Crag

(Now I learn that comments can't be edited...)

OUT: Strionic Resonator, Bow of Nylea (well, more like shuttled to the maybeboard)

IN: Polis Crusher, Surrak Dragonclaw (might consider using Khenra Charioteer instead)

One of my favorite interactions in my version of this deck is the Enchanted Evening / Polis Crusher combo, which is hilarious vs. enemies' lands.

Still experimenting with the card list.

Tested against a deck that ran Dictate of Erebos with cards like Endless Cockroaches. Painful. Best answer was to try to wait and just use flyers when they came out, but he had sac outlets as well, so no-go.

First Cut:
Out:
1x Barbed Foliage (Didn't do much. Would work against endless 1/1 tokens, as in a Presence of Gond deck.),
1x Caltrops (Didn't do much. See comment just above.),
1x Flamewake Phoenix (nonbos with AEther Flash).
In:
1x Sylvan Primordial,
1x Polis Crusher (to help with enchantments),
1x Ember Swallower,
1x Chandra's Ignition.

Will Try Next:
Out:
1x Sylvan Primordial,
1x Polis Crusher (May keep after all.),
1x Ember Swallower.
In:
2x Natural End (Helps with non-creature problems. My ramp supports this over Naturalize.),
1x Fleetfeather Sandals (Very useful. Wanted another. Bladed Pinions would be good in this slot too.).

AEther Flash has been good, but it comes out late against some decks. If I drop them, I could add back in Flamewake Phoenix and Polis Crusher.

You might want to replace Polis Crusher I beleive his protection from enchantments would include xenegod's doubling effect.

One of my favorite creatures for xenagos is Siege Behemoth; because getting blocked is overrated ;D

Idk your opinion on infinite combos, but I'd consider Hellkite Charger, Aggravated Assault, Savage Ventmaw, Bear Umbra, and Sword of Feast and Famine (which you already have in your maybeboard). Infinite attack phases is a great way to end the game quick

With so many haste sources I would remove Fires of Yavimaya, it seems overkill. Polis Crusher is kinda blah imo, Terra Stomper is a great beatstick but doesn't have any extra abilities, and you have seven equipment cards that you could probably cut down on for more creatures/wincons

Xenagos is super fun! Revel on!
