Phyrexian Tyranny Discussion

robcastpwnz on Nekusar Wheel

Nekusar was my first serious commander and I really enjoyed playing him for a few years. I don't have the final decklist anymore but I'll offer up a few suggestions. I think you could add a few more budget pseudo-wheel effects and here are some of the cards I used to run: Magus of the Wheel , Commit / Memory , and Echo of Eons . There are a few other cards that have Nekusar's ability stapled to them so they might be worth adding: Fate Unraveler , Underworld Dreams and Spiteful Visions . A couple of my personal favorites that I used to run as major sources of damage and disruption were Teferi's Puzzle Box and Phyrexian Tyranny . They are a bit more pricy so no worries if they are too expensive to slot in. Good luck!!

Nice!! Nekusar was my first serious commander and I really enjoyed playing him. I have taken apart the deck for pieces to add to my other decks. I'll offer some of my ideas. I used to run Teferi's Puzzle Box and Phyrexian Tyranny as my major damage dealers. I think you could add a few more budget pseudo-wheel effects and here some of the cards I used to run because I never pulled the trigger on buying the OG Wheel: Khorvath's Fury , Magus of the Wheel , Commit / Memory , Whispering Madness and Echo of Eons . Unless your meta plays a lot of graveyard decks I would get rid of Leyline of the Void and Nihil Spellbomb . There are a few other cards that have Nekusar's ability stapled to them so they might be worth adding: Fate Unraveler , Underworld Dreams and Spiteful Visions . Price of Knowledge is a pretty vicious card if the game goes late and you can get a lot of cards in your opponents' hands. I'm not so sure you need Mindcrank , Jace, Wielder of Mysteries or Psychic Corrosion either. Unless you are going for a mill strategy you might be able to pull most of the mill cards and put things that work more with Nekusar.

But you can do whatever you like. I know that my friends called my deck "salty" and I would get targeted early because of how aggro my deck was. Nekusar paints a target on your back because he hits everyone for one of the most essential parts of playing Magic and it's very hard to get around his damage. Good luck with the deck!!

inferno2446 on Whoops!, was that your life total? So sorry dude..

I really like this deck and I'm planning on buying it but why do you have Wall of Frost , Guard Gomazoa and Fog Bank I don't really see their use in this deck, maybe try Phyrexian Tyranny , Psychosis Crawler and Liliana's Caress

Sorry it took me that long to answer you guys (AGAIN)!!!

  • Psychonoud Thanks for the comment! I prefer BA over Rolling Earthquake because of the mana cost and it dosen't deals me damage (most of the time I'm the target of the aggro decks). Phyrexian Tyranny isn't my best "pain" card and I use it only for finish the game, and Raiders' Wake is a much safer option, I agree with you. Notion Thief and Consecrated Sphinx are draw machines that help me combo off. Paradox Engine is a must in this deck!!! I run a lot of mana rocks, with PE I can easily "chain" my wheels.

  • n0130dy13th Thanks a lot! The first time I build this deck back at 2016 it was basically the Commander 2013 Precon with about 20 different cards. The biggest and more important change I made was the mana base. It helped me A LOT at my LGS!

  • yuval Thank you mate, I still need to give the explanation a update. There are 2 things I don't like in Kederekt Parasite . 1 - I need a red permanent and I run only 2 of them and the commander. This card makes me too reliant on Nekusar. I don't like it. 2- It's a creature, the easiest permanent type to remove in the game. I used to run Arcane Denial but the 2 cards draw is a big drawback, a combo player will not care about the damage if it brings him/her closer to winning the game. Moreover, Disallow also counters activated abilitys, its a huge improvement over AD for only one more .

  • Falkenstein That price is because the list is almost all composed of foil/promo cards. And some expensive cards like the old dual lands and some mana rocks can be replaced in order to the list became more accessible.

  • Jamirostyle Thanks! This card is awesome! It will replace Incendiary Command !!

DemonDragonJ on Modern Horizons Announced

PlatinumOne, I believe that Spiritmonger is too powerful for modern, since I highly doubt that WotC wishes for modern to become too similar to legacy.

I do, however, think that both Bind and Phyrexian Tyranny would be nice in this set, although WotC may be hesitant to introduce bind to modern, since it is a strong bend of the current color pie.

Stefouch on Zombie Horde: The Gathering of the Dead

A few recent updates:

  • Rule 4 of the Dead has been changed: The Horde is immune to "you lose" effects and decking.

  • Added "Appendix IV - Build your own Horde" to the description, with a few links to other Hordes created by the community.

  • Environment Deck: +Underworld Dreams, −Phyrexian Tyranny. Phyrexian Tyranny wasn't really in the Zombie theme. I'm planning to add more nasty black enchantments in a near future.

Hi NV_1980,

I've found some time to update the deck based on your suggestions;

  • I've removed Fate Unraveler from the deck as you suggested. I've replaced him with Phyrexian Tyranny instead of Underworld Dreams mainly because the UBR cost feels a bit better than BBB cost as I worry I would struggle to have three black mana earlier in the game.

  • I've added one boardwipe as you suggested. I didn't use Volcanic Fallout because it's too unversitale and I didn't use Fiery Confluence mainly because I just don't feel like buying an unnecessarily expensive card if I can replace with a cheaper boardwipe. I've settled with Evacuation for now. I may replace it with a better boardwipe or one that fits the theme of the deck better later. I'm still considering Pyrohemia.

As for the other cards you've suggested;

  • Repercussion is a ridiculous card which I will have to try at least for the fun of it; it will probably not find a permanent place in the deck though as I feel like it would "undermine" all the work the rest of the deck did in the game by just ending the game with Blasphemous Act and it wouldn't really matter what happened in the game before. (It's difficult to explain what I mean but I hope you somewhat understand what I mean.)

  • Wound Reflection is an excellent addition to the deck; I just don't feel like buying it because of its cost for now. The deck will have to suffice with Archfiend of Dispair.

  • Other your suggestion were all reasonable but I did not use them mainly because I play in a very casual meta with my friends so my decks can be a bit more fun and casual aswell. (For example, I don't have to worry that much about extremely consistent fast aggro decks etc. :-)

Sorry for the long answer; I wanted to explain my decisions.

Regards,

Sheld

First up, I recommend chucking Doubling Season, Hardened Scales and/or Parallel Lives. If you are unsure what to drop in place of either one of these cards, I suggest Phyrexian Tyranny, just because you have a lot of card draw, so it will hinder you a lot, maybe more than some of your opponents. What are your play groups decks usually like? Also, what is your main goal of this deck? You mentioned to me you wanted to group hug it, still want to? If so, do you want to make it an aggressive group hug?
