Onyx Goblet

Artifact

Tap: Target player loses 1 life.

Grixis definitely makes the most sense for a Sphinx.

Goreal is only menitoned on Onyx Goblet , who is trying to take all of Esper, but here's a version on Grixis:

Goreal, Empress of Grixis

Legendary Creature - Vampire Sphinx

Flying, Menace, Haste

When Goreal, Empress of Grixis enters the battlefield, each player loses life equal to the number of cards in their hand, then discards their hand, then shuffles their graveyard into their library, then draws seven cards.

4/4

I'd like to see a common artifact with a triggered and an activated ability Arcum's Astrolabe is a busted version, lol

On second thought how could I forget Staff of Nin! It's draw and a Rakdos enabler! Onyx Goblet seems more reliable than your creatures.

Target Minotaur is banned
Borderland Minotaur
Marauding Boneslasher
Abandon Hope isn't that good - hurts you more than opponent
Bend or Break hurts you as well - sure you want to destroy your own lands?
Replace Hijack with Insurrection
Onyx Goblet isn't good enough (1 damage is lame)
Nice job with Whip of Erebos
Replace Accelerate with Fervor
Check out Akroma's Memorial
I like Dark Deal - also put in Reforge the Soul and Wheel of Fortune
Check out cards like Door of Destinies, Obelisk of Urd, Vanquisher's Banner, etc
Add Rogue's Passage
You're playing black, find some cards to bring back all cards from your graveyard (like Rise of the Dark Realms)
Add the disk, as well as some anti board wipe cards
You need some double strike and multiple combat phases! Blood Mist and Savage Beating are some examples, there are better ones out there though

Overall good job though, looking like a mean deck

There's a reason Lightning Bolt sees play in Modern and Onyx Goblet doesn't. It's a lot easier to win through bursts of direct damage than it is to ping your opponents for one or two every turn. Single damage effects are tough because they require protection. Sure, it's possible to win by dealing them bits of damage one turn at a time, but what if they have Abrupt Decay? You've spent three mana to deal one damage, when you could have just played Lightning Bolt and spent one mana for three damage.

As the title suggest and before we get into our discussion, I would like to apologize for all my threads being about/leaning toward Mono-black. This thread will be different however.

Anyways, let's get to it! This time, we are discussing 2 things. One is great combos with ONLY NON-CREATURE CARDS to do direct damage. Two is a question of long term damage (Such as Onyx Goblet) or instant damage (Such as Alms of the Vein).

Always nice to see another Rakdos deck out there :)

The big issue I see is you need more things to deal damage early so you can get Rakdos out fast. That's the eternal struggle I have had with the "Lord of Riots" its the factor I am currently mulling over the most at the moment. To add more little guys to deal 1 point of damage early or not. Thermo-Alchemist, Shepherd of Rot and Onyx Goblet are three fairly solid choices to enable Rakdos.

Rakdos is a crazy good Commander, created a deck around him a few weeks ago and played about ten matches until now...first advice I can give you- dream bigger when it comes to creatures in your deck :) I almost only play big creatures, mostly Demons, Dragons and Eldrazi and havent had any huge problems with mana costs so far. Most important part is to get out Rakdos. Onyx Goblet and Gut Shot are obvious choices, but if you dont have any of those available creatures like Bloodgift Demon or Indulgent Tormentor can do the trick too.Since you also have Goblin Fireslinger and Tormented Soul I dont think you will have problems with getting Rakdos out.

But since Rakdos costs I would recommend more Lands that produce both colors of Mana to increase your chances on playing him in round 4, for example Command Tower, Tainted Peak and Smoldering Marsh are a must have. Also a Sol Ring never hurts.

You can take a look at my version of the deck, its called Hells Kitchen in my profile. Its still in testing phase but I love to play with this deck, and most of the time you can steamroll your enemies. Last Match I played, I attacked with Rakdos and another Creature in Turn 6 to play Desolation Twin, It That Betrays and Reaper from the Abyss simultaneously...good times :)
