Nightcreep

Instant

Until end of turn, all creatures become black and all lands become Swamps.

Ziusdra on Card creation challenge

That's why I moved from "exile this card" to "exile it as it resolves", which mtg has used in recent sets.

Spoiled Wastes

Enchantment - Aura

Enchant land

Allegiance - Only two colors may be used to cast Spoiled Wastes.

Enchanted land is a Swamp and loses all other land types and abilities.

If red mana was spent to cast Spoiled Wastes, put a blood counter on enchanted land. When a land with a blood counter becomes tapped, its controller sacrifices a creature for each blood counter on it.

If blue mana was spent to cast Spoiled Wastes, put a drain counter on enchanted land. When a land with a drain counter becomes tapped, its controller discards a card for each drain counter on it.

I've been wanting to see more of the black ability we haven't seen in a while that is resource denial/control vis-a-vis land and color change (see: Contaminated Ground , Nightcreep , etc.). (what makes this different from land destruction? functionally, the same, except here and in Contaminated Ground if you have abilities that force opponent lands to be tapped, you can trigger these abilities without waiting around for your opponent to desperately need the mana source. Plus the text leaves it open for you to find ways to get more counters on the land and make the effects even worse)

Next challenge: more Allegiance, but unlike me, remember to keep the text short or else it's basically unprintable

Nightcreep Also pseudo silence against non-black.

Yep, that's what I thought, along with Nightcreep. I don't think it would be a great deck unless all your artifacts produce mana. Paradox Engine Mana Vault Thran Dynamo. All that stuff.

Ghoulcaller's Chant vs. Disentomb to pull 2 instead of 1.

Screeching Skaab vs. Withered Wretch. Wretch is the only creature in here focused on exiling from the grave, which is good if an opponent is running reanimate but as the only card in here that does that, I'd just ditch it and go with the self mill idea. Maybe think about finding a couple cards with flashback that help retrieve an instant/sorcery from the grave in case you throw out Zombie Apocalypse or Living Death. I'd suggest getting rid of the counterspells but that's just me.

Nightcreep is a cool card but seems pointless in here. You don't have any swampwalk, and it'd help your opponents out if you have Bad Moon out. I could see maybe some kind of combo with Bubbling Muck but trying to play one card off another card that you may or may not have is risky.

From the maybeboard, I wouldn't bother with Forgotten Creation, Graf Harvest, Liliana's Elite or Servant of Tymaret. The crow is perfect for the mill theme. I'd argue that Door of Destinies could be better than Coat of Arms, but ideally switch out Jinxed Idol for it. The other cards are just really good.

Hello friend, since you've asked for control non-typical decks. My mind comes to cards you don't usually see played alot but can pack quite a surprise for an unaware your opponent. Ofc these card are not really competitive.

Black:Dash Hopes - Extirpate - Kor Dirge - Nightcreep - Treacherous Urge - Imp's Mischief

White: Silence - Mana Tithe - Dawn Charm - Rebuff the Wicked

red: Wild Ricochet - Molten Influence

So build your blue control deck in any color you want :P

lagotripha, Shadow of Doubt would probably be in my board if it wasn't for the BB cost. Sometimes I don't find a second swamp before I land a Blood Moon. The Nightcreep tech is solid, luckily there is no Eldrazi Tron in my local meta, and most normal Tron decks aren't playing many, if any copies of All is Dust. I will definitely keep that in mind though. Rakdos Charm fills my artifact removal spot nicely, along with its other uses. I have played with Pack Rat in this deck, and its excellent. I play against a lot of Affinity though, and Pia and Kiran really shines in that matchup. Thanks for your suggestions and kind words.

xJonahSlayerx, like most control/midrange decks in Modern, this deck is looking to spend the early turns disrupting our opponent while sculpting our game plan. Once we do make it to turn 5+, we are usually in the drivers seat.

If you've been having trouble against tron and spell based combo Shadow of Doubt is worth looking at as a sideboard option. Blocking an expedition map or other tutor really does turn games around. Similarly Nightcreep in response to All Is Dust can be a blowout. I enjoy Hit if I'm running artifact removal as a response to brain decks, but all told this list looks really nice. I've tinkered with Skred b/r control, but its not as efficient even with blood moon. I'd consider Pack Rat in place of Pia and Kiran Nalaar personally, but I genuinely can't think of any other changes I would want to test. Really nice work.
