Nantuko Mentor Discussion

Don't think you need Jenara or Knotvine Paladin since you have a great attacker as a commander already. Serra Ascendant would be amazing though. Maybe even Hydra Omnivore to spread the damage.

Nantuko Mentor can pump your exalted attacker by a lot.

Citadel Siege can grow your creatures more or tap opponents' creatures more reliably than Angelic Benediction.

Dauntless Escort doesn't work if you have Angel of Jubilation in play. You could try Teferi's Protection or Heroic Intervention instead.

One thing you are missing is card advantage. Rishkar's Expertise, Hunter's Insight, and Hunter's Prowess can help draw cards from a big exalted creature. Beast Whisperer and Shamanic Revelation are great for drawing cards from all your creatures.

I think one of the issues with Sylvan Safekeeper is that shroud prevents you from pumping Marwyn further. With Temur Sabertooth you can repeatedly bounce other creatures and replay them, which is handy with Quirion Ranger, Scryb Ranger, and Wirewood Symbiote to reset their abilities and untap Marwyn again. With Greater Good, you need haste to recast Marwyn and restart the storming.

Having more creatures allows you to make use of creature-based card draw like Primordial Sage and Soul of the Harvest. Rhonas's Monument makes most of those creatures mana-positive by reducing their costs and pumping Marwyn further. Another very efficient spell you could try is Berserk, although you need to go to combat for that. Nantuko Mentor might also work.

Selvala should be in here, you're right. And yeah, I checked all the staple Selvala cards, Sheltering Ancient and Phyrexian Soulgorger are the only really good ones. Ravaging Riftwurm is another fine addition, but I didn't want to go too gimmick heavy, especially when we won't be making use of Selvala's mana ability as consistently.

And this really isn't a voltron deck; we're casting big dumb creatures that do nothing to reduce Ghalta's CMC, and ideally get a 12/12 for . Best of all is his ability reduces the Commander tax whenever it goes back into the command zone.

I don't plan on making this a voltron deck since he's already swinging for 12 commander damage, so using cleverer tactics like infect, Berserk, Wine of Blood and Iron and Nantuko Mentor were kind of the general idea to just obliterate an opponent.

Also, for Omnath, he's not the general, lol, and won't be in the final product, I just used a placeholder since Ghalta isn't in the database yet. This is a deck I built today specifically for Ghalta, Primal Hunger.

Dunno if anyone has seen this. I love it as a card, but I'm pretty sure it's not competitive.

Outside of a strictly worse Selvala shell.

You're essentially running all the dorks, and some of Selvala's crappy fatties like Phyrexian Soulgorger and Sheltering Ancient to cheat him out. For pure CMD damage, Berserk effects, Wine of Blood and Iron and Nantuko Mentor all help.

I could also see this as a 99 in Xenagod/etc

Hey there, Is it okay for your playgroup that you use a non-legendary card as your commander? If so and you will continue to use Godsire, then you should consider tokendoublers. I am aware that some of them are kind of expensive, but on the other side, some of them arent: Anointed Procession, Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, Primal Vigor.

Populate, can work very good as well, because you play with huge Tokens: Druid's Deliverance, Growing Ranks, Rootborn Defenses, Sundering Growth, Trostani's Judgment, Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage, Wake the Reflections, Wayfaring Temple, also great: Samut, Voice of Dissent.

Altough you have to think about, wich route you want to go with the deck. I would say swarm with tokens and go broad, not Voltron. But if you want to Voltron like hell, you should consider the follwing: Ramp like f*** in the first few turns. Godsire is expensive! and then give it a boost! Godsire has the Potential of killing in one hit if you combine it with the following:

Double Strike: Assault Strobe, Avatar of Slaughter, Battle Mastery, Berserkers' Onslaught, Blood Mist, Boros Charm, Duelist's Heritage, Fireshrieker, Psychotic Fury, Samut, the Tested, Silverblade Paladin, Temur Battle Rage.

Combine this with +X'er: Berserk, Dragon Throne of Tarkir on one of the Tokens, Fatal Frenzy, Nantuko Mentor, Onward, Overwhelming Stampede, Pathbreaker Ibex, Rush of Blood, Wine of Blood and Iron, Xenagos, God of Revels.

I hope i could help you.

Welcome to my area of expertise. I love building decks nobody has ever thought up and using cards that are purely jank. I'll name a commander and then couple cards people have either forgot or think are useless and a general theme you could play (no pressure to play it that way).

  • Asmira, Holy Avenger: Hunting Grounds, Centaur Omenreader, Nacatl War-Pride. I'd try either a token based deck (Eldrazi Spawn/Scions) that powers itself off of sacrificing creatures (Birthing Pod and Ashnod's Altar) or a Cleric tribal with some recursion (Children of Korlis and Grave Sifter).

  • Atalya, Samite Master: Cleansing, Well of Lost Dreams, Celestial Dawn. You could play a stax and/or group slug deck, abusing your life gaining abilities (Heartstone, Rings of Brighthearth and Illusionist's Bracers) or a surprise fatty deck that drops a huge dude (Phyrexian Processor or Vengeful Archon) thanks to mana doublers (Extraplanar Lens, Gauntlet of Power, and Caged Sun).

  • Axelrod Gunnarson: Kusari-Gama, Invasion Plans, Dolmen Gate. Axelrod would be your standard voltron deck, but to spice it up, why not make it so you do those "group hug" cards that give your opponents creatures (Varchild's War-Riders) and make them block so you end up doing damage and a In Garruk's Wake each combat? Don't forget some sort of deathtouch (Whip of Erebos.)

  • Ayumi, the Last Visitor: Cream of the Crop, Greater Good, Nantuko Mentor. Another deck where you would instantly think voltron, right? Maybe do an ETB deck focusing on your commander and her power (a surprising amount of cards that deal with power). Sac'ing it for whatever reason (Birthing Pod or Greater Good) and then recurring it somehow (Eternal Witness or Lifeline) to make some extremely unlikely combos.
  • And those are just the "A's" when I searched on gatherer for all legendary creatures. I could go on, but it's up to your creativity. If you like what I'm pitchin, feel free to either take one of these ideas or do some research of your own on a commander you might want to do something phunky with.

    Firebones675 on Mana Hydras

Forgot to mention this earlier but Phyrexian Dreadnought is amazing with selvala. If you activate her ability with the dreadnought trigger on the stack, you have access to 14 mana on turn 4. Looking back through your deck you don't have much to do turn one. Might be worth putting in a couple mana dorks. ( Sorry i'm a lot better at finding cards to add than making cuts. Happens all the time with my own decks too). Anyways, I decided to go for round 2 at see what other cards could be cut. What's left is all good in your deck, it;s just a matter of finding the weakest in a group of powerful cards. I'm questioning some of my own cuts here more than in my last post but I think these might be okay to take out.

Genesis Wave: An amazing card but beninator is 100% correct on this one. Between the hydras that enter the battlefield as a 0/0 and your instants and sorceries, this only can get about 2/3 of your deck. I think this card is still very playable in the deck and i'm not saying this should be a cut but keep in mind it's not as powerful as it looks here.

Primeval Bounty: Feel like you already have a lot of powerful high cmc cards. Unlike the hydras this one doesnt draw you cards off selvala though

Death's Presence On the fence about this one. Same problems as with bounty but this one is a bit better at helping selvala make mana.

Nissa, Voice of Zendikar This one is fine to cut. Your deck would rather have a few large creatures than a lot of little ones.

Engulfing Slagwurm big card with a fun ability but that;s about it. I'd take him out for now.

Ulvenwald Hydra: If he had trample i'd say keep him in, but my experience with this guy is that he just gets chumped until he is hit by spot removal. Unlike other hydras he doesn't get better late game when you have more mana

    Oran-Rief Hydra while a good one, it's admittedly a replaceable big/big.

Avenger of Zendikar. Ramp into him too early and you don't get many plants. When you are in topdeck mode its gonna be harder to trigger him.

Nantuko Mentor I can see this guy being good but you have to make cuts somewhere and paying 3 mana to double the stats is good but if they cast a removal spell in response it's a blow out (admittedly true for a lot of other cards but still)

Patron of the Orochi without the offering ability by the time you get him into play you don't need him as much since it will be pretty late game.

Verdant Confluence of all the similar effects to this in the deck, I think you can afford to cut this one.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure if I can be the one to help you cut the last dozen or so cards over 100 you will be after this batch of cuts. But I think the deck is in pretty good shape. I'd much rather have the issue be that I have too many good cards rather than not enough.
