Meditate

Instant

Draw four cards. You skip your next turn.

Land Equilibrium also feeds It That Betrays... Brutal.

Waterspout Elemental I found this jank digging thru my collection. Might be the perfect card for this backwards strategy. Going to test it this weekend.

Karn's Temporal Sundering a swiss army knife extra turn effect. I'm trying to avoid spells but I think this fills a role similar to Meditate. Might test this over the weekend.

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't see how you're skipping your turns. No Magosi , Chronatog / Other Chronatog , Chronosavant , Eater of Days , Lethal Vapors , Meditate , or Wormfang Manta in sight!

Meditate has put in a lot of work for me. The draw back is easily avoided by simply winning the game lol

Hi mtgplayer100! First of all, thanks for commenting. I think Predict is quite good, specially having playsets of Brainstorm, Ponder and Preordain. As I was commenting before, Meditate is quite good while you're comboing off, but basically useless from turs 1 to 3, or even 4 sometimes. I can totally see what Milesfuzz suggests and adding a Meditate to the "wishboard", that should e totaly fine I think :)

The meta I'm facing is quite predictable, I'm playing a local league, with several rounds of opponents. For the next round I expect half of them to be playing Miracles or Control of some sort, and for sure some Delver lists. The Narset, Parter of Veils is absolutely a meta call, I don't think I would be running her (not even in the sideboard) agains an unknown meta. But being so packed with Control I think it's fine! I think after this league I'll be updating the list based upon an unknown meta, and changing it to be more versatile, and not so focused! :D

Thank you both a lot for commenting! It's been quite helpful!

MurderForBrunch I think Grafdigger's Cage effects are your go-to hate cards since they buy you more time than Soul-Guide Lantern. Also stops Cabal Therapy decks. I would at least run a single Meditate in the wishboard. It's definitely not a 4 of as it never helps you in the setup turns.

I think Meditate probably should be a playset here. If you go off and fail, you're probably loosing anyway, so might as well make it easier. You could probably cut the Predicts and Narset, Parter of Veils for it. Predict is more like a control card for value later on, and since you don't really have anything to stall with, you want to set up the combo asap. Narset does seem really good, but feels more like a sideboard card here.

Hi Milesfuzz! Currently I'm playing in a local league, and the meta is more or less predictable. There's a bunch of Control/Miracles, some Temur Delver and a bunch of niche things. I think I like Pieces of the Puzzle quite a lot, at least more than the Snap in the main board. I considered Retraced Image but I don't see the meta as very aggressive.

On the other hand, Meditate is interesting! The problem I see with it is that, as you say, you can only cast it as you're comboing off. However I think I like Predict more milling unwanted cards from Brainstorm or Ponder for example, either early game, or while comboing off. It also has the upside of "goozling" opposing Mystic Sanctuary targets and things alike! Which admitedly, it won't come up often enough to justify it's inclusion by itself, but it's a nice upside of the card!

What I was considering these days is which pieces of graveyard hate I want in the sideboard. I think I like Grafdigger's Cage more because of Reanimator and Dreadhorde Arcanist, but stuff like Relic of Progenitus or Soul-Guide Lantern are able to draw cards in a pinch. What to you think?

Thanks a lot for your comment, it was super useful! :D

Heya! Fellow tide player here. I had alot of trouble in heavy black metas, no idea what yours is like. I found alot of success with running Pieces of the Puzzle to try and regain some of the hand disruption. If you're up against some aggressive decks, Retraced Image can really help you get to the turns where you can reliably go off. Meditate can also take the slot of Pieces of the Puzzle albeit you can only -really- use it on combo turns. Finally, if your budget allows, Candelabra of Tawnos is a house.
