Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor on UB: LOTR

For a set that I had my doubts about, the spoilers are knocking it out of the park from a LotR lore perspective. Whomever is behind set design really seems like a fan of the books and this whole set feels like a love letter to the IP. Using Saga's to tell stories from Tolkien's other works is pretty genius as well.

From a commander perspective, the set looks great as well. Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant and Sauron, the Dark Lord both look like a blast to build around.

I am excited to jam Last March of the Ents into my Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus deck as another Majestic Genesis type effect.

I don't see much of a modern impact here besides maybe the legendary land cycle, but then again, I don't play too much modern so I could be missing something.

First of all I'm glad that you think this list look spowerfull and that you wanted to playtest it, always good to hear. Whats even better ofcourse is to hear that it walloped you (:

Ty for pointing that miirym flaw out, I still have to fix my explenation of the deck. I have recently moved and can't find the time to do that yet sadly. I'm have some time this weekend to fix everything again. I really want to rewrite everything as its prety outdated now.

Majestic Genesis is to expensive for me to cast. I'd prefer cards like Monster Manual, Sneak Attack or probably the best one Lurking Predators but I have moved away from "cheating" creatures in to play and started playing other "sub themes" like lifelink, reanimation and more removal cards. As I'm writing this out I think I'm also allowed to play Birds of Paradise as my bigest problem with the card was that it was a 1 cmc creature and I didn't want to cheat it in to play.

As for the list itself I have spend a lot of time on it and found out that not relying completely on dragons is the safer and stronger way to play as I get wiped a LOT. Because of this I had to start playing ohter cards to still be in the game. Most of the times if a few permanents other than ramp stay on the board it spirals in to a win for me which I love.

I do have one rule for myself and thats that I can never dip below 25 dragon's as I still want to be playing the big bois often. And Dragon Broodmother always has to be in. Its very strong and probably my favorite magic card.

fixed hand looks to be that you have 7 cards per row and go down or you have 1 big row with all the cards in your hand.

Well, i did play some rounds and got walloped (well, my Ur-Dragon deck) in some of them. In one game your deck got a turn 4 Selvala's Stampede with Ganax and Temur Ascendency already in play, bringing out Ancient Gold Dragon and the double strike enchantment :D. My own deck only wins if it is faster and doesn't run into too much removal. So maybe I should consider a few more defensive additions. Aside from that, have you considered Majestic Genesis for cheat options? It essentially works like a 12 CMC Genesis Wave for only 8 mana, which you can get pretty quick.

First advice: I personally find Genesis Ultimatum and Majestic Genesis either too high in cmc or too clunky in pips.

Rhythm of the Wild does only give your nontokens haste. If you‘re using it for the counter-protection it‘s okay if it fits your meta.

I would highly recommend mass removal… Cyclonic Rift, Chain Reaction and Blasphemous Act are great (the last two act as win condition with Wrathful Red Dragon.

Monster Manual can cheat some dragons into play in instant speed.

I‘m nit a big fan of Firkraag in a Miirym list. I personally would swap it for Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient. 7 CMC 4/4 doesn‘t look like much but the mana he produces is enormous!

Maybe you find room for a protective mana-rock with Jade Orb of Dragonkind. A very flavourful decision in a dragon deck.
