Mahamoti Djinn

Creature — Djinn

Flying (This creature can't be blocked except by creatures with flying or reach.)

Epicurus on Card creation challenge

As a kid, I would always use Earthbind in all of my red burn decks. It would kill my brother's Flying Men outright, while taking away his Mahamoti Djinn's evasion. So, not quite a Lightning Bolt, but it still had the versatility to be useful against some bigger creatures. Here's an homage to that.

Treacherous Pass

Enchantment

When ~ enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to all nonflying creatures

Whenever a nonflying creature attacks you or a planeswalker you control, if you control an untapped mountain, ~ 1 damage to it

I think that I pushed it into uncommon there, so I concede the challenge. Again with the common burn spell.

Last_Laugh is right, the rare sheets would have 2 of each rare on them but a few slots were reserved for the higher rare cards and have only one. Mythic just makes it clear what those cards are.

I do however regardless of my feelings on it think the Mahamoti Djinn is out of the bottle on this one.

MagicalHacker you say that a banlist is to make it so that strangers can play a fair game against eachother and have fun. I believe that, no matter what the banlist looks like, a banlist cannot achieve this.

Why? Because the expectations of people when player commander are different. I've played a lot of 4-player free for all on Untap, against total strangers. Sometimes the games were fairly balanced and fun for everyone. Sometimes you face that Arcum Dagsson player that combos off on turn 5 without anyone being able to do anything.

The balance in games of EDH will never be decided by a global banlist for all players. This is because when you play with friends you can ban certain cards because they were totally oppressive and everyone agrees to not use that card anymore. When playing against a stranger you can never know how polished their deck is. To them the deck may be casual, to you their deck can seem like a tuned monstrosity. That is because maybe I am playing with cards like Mahamoti Djinn while they're playing elfball with a twist.

Making a game between strangers balanced is impossible, that's why the multiplayer aspect is so fun, the other players can help keep in check the person with the strongest deck. Politics matter.

Because I don't think a global banlist can make games more balanced or more fun between strangers, I don't think we need a global banlist and local playgroups should define for themselves where the boundaries lie for their group.

Shame, because Djinns were a big part of Magic's early days. Case in Point: Erhnam Djinn, Mahamoti Djinn.

Welcome to the club! One of the best ways to improve deck quality and synergy is to pick a theme and run with it. For example, with Sigil of the Empty Throne, you want to play lots of enchantments. Look for cards that would support that, like Sphere of Safety or Aegis of the Gods. I would recommend building in this direction for this deck; you have a lot of good pieces for it already. As far as deck composition, it's almost always better to have 3-4 copies of the key cards, leaving out anything that doesn't support your strategy. Mahamoti Djinn is a big flyer, but it doesn't offer anything beyond that. Staff of the Sun Magus is less than optimal in a multicolor deck.

Hope this helps!

Hi Rubythroat,

Thank you for the feedback! This helps a lot. Regarding the Terra Stompers and the Mahamoti Djinns, what would you think about replacing these with Prophet of Kruphix or Kruphix, God of Horizons? I have a couple of each of those in my library, and I have been looking at them and wondering if they would work well in this deck. Thanks!

Hi Nickbenson, it seems to me you made some odd card choices.

First of all, why would you run 2 Woodland Stream when there is room for 2 more Thornwood Falls? Seeing that these are strictly better, i recommend changing the Streams to Falls.

Arbor Elf has more synergy with the Market Festivals, since it can produce 1 mana early, and later you can possibly tap it for 3 mana. Utopia Sprawl also works as a Market Festival if you need something earlier.

If you want your deck to be a little faster and more consistent, I recommend taking out the Triton Shorestalker and Torrent Elementals for 2 more Whisperer of the Wilds and Arbor Elfs. This will allow you to ramp much faster.

As for the Terra Stompers and Mahamoti Djinns, once they are out they will be destroyed almost instantly, unless you wait untill you have 3 more mana to Cancel something. This doesn't seem like an ideal plan, so maybe something that protects itself is better as a curve-topper. Something like Sphinx of the Final Word or Gaea's Revenge may be better.

If the purpose of Sleep Paralysis is only to stop early aggression, Singing Bell Strike might work better.Same for Cancel: how often can you afford to do nothing in your turn to counter something? Perhaps Unsummon or Vapor Snag do the job better.

I hope this helps.

It's going to be the same concept as what they did with Mahamoti Djinn and friends in the Intro Decks.

Standard legal.

Barely seen.

Nobody cares enough.
