Magnigoth Treefolk Discussion

Magnigoth Treefolk is a great card especially if you have dual color decks

A fellow Doran player! I've been playing Doran for 5 years now and have tried a few different strategies over the years from voltron-Doran to treekfolk-tribal to Low-Power/High-Toughness synergy. What a versitile and fun commander :)

Some suggestions:

Woah, haha, you guys were busy. Awesome! Well, possible cards to get rid of are Gaea's Avenger and Magnigoth Treefolk.

Just a heads up, Sakura-Tribe Elder is a shaman.

Hmm... Do you make enough tokens to warrant sacrifice outlets? Doesn't seem much. A big token maker recommended Avenger of Zendikar.

This looks fun!

If you felt like dumping some money into it; I'd replace a few things like Soul of Theros with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, maybe Oathsworn Giant or Magnigoth Treefolk for Deathbringer Liege. Garruk Wildspeaker is another anthem that can ramp

Your average cmc is pretty high. There's a lot of cheap ramp and mana fixing in green. Rampant Growth, Farseek, Kodama's Reach, Harrow, Crop Rotation, Explosive Vegetation, etc. I'd also suggest Birds of Paradise, Sylvan Caryatid, Deathrite Shaman, Utopia Tree, and maybe Bloom Tender. Chromatic Lantern is incredible. There's always cards like Joiner Adept and the enchantment version to help fix

You could drop $500 on the landbase and still be playing luck-of-the-draw. Just enjoy it and tweak it as you go right?

I like that you went with a creature based deck. I have a lot more boardwipes in my fiance's doran deck. It's pretty fun. Not super competitive. I hope you'll take a sec to check it out (link)

Yeah, I really like Thelonite Hermit. I ran it for quite a while and basically loved it. The problem was I only had one Morph card in the deck and it didn't take long before everyone in the group knew what it was ... and would kill it any time I looked ready to turn it face up. :-( Still, I REALLY appreciate the reminder -- I'm going to be traveling a lot more for work soon, and planned to take Rith with me for some pick-up games at LGSs, and I'll need to pack the Hermit as well!

I think Verdeloth the Ancient is pretty good. I'm a little crowded at the 6-drop slot (since it also includes Rith), but that's not too bad. But I'm 100% Vorthos, and Rith HATES Treefolk. She was twice imprisoned in a Magnigoth Treefolk, and though Wizards never said who, I'm pretty sure it was Verdeloth, since they're both Legendary creatures from the same set. Here is a good starting point on her lore, just in case you're interested :-)

And Dragonlord's Servant has been on my maybeboard forever, but I've never actually tested it out. I agree, it's definitely worth a hard look! Especially since I already have the fun promo: Dragonlord's Servant

Finally, thanks so much for the kudos. Pretty much every good idea here is one I owe to the T/O community ... folks like you who invested time in looking at and commenting on my Rith! So thanks tons!

GearNoir on Help With First Commander Deck?

Oh man where to begin?

Colfenor is a great and pretty safe choice I'd say. The easiest thing to do is start by looking at some of the Meren of Clan Nel Toth precon upgrades and also some of the lifegain decks (the utility your commander provides in this area should be put to full use). Those lists will show you patterns of how to work the theme and the common staples.

Just a few suggestions to help you out: Black Market,Sanguine Bond,Exquisite Blood,Dictate of Erebos, Ghoultree,Great Oak Guardian,Kalonian Twingrove, Lignify,Magnigoth Treefolk,Rootgrapple, Sylvan Offering,Reach of Branches,Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest,Eternal Witness,Farhaven Elf, Primal Growth, Sword of the Animist,Archetype of Finality,Command Tower,Sol Ring,Golgari Rot Farm,Golgari Guildgate,Golgari Signet,Tainted Wood, literally the list could go on.

GB has access to some superb sac, ramp, pump, and recursion cards available.

Hope that helps a little!
