Lightning Beserker Discussion

HoboTSH on The Return of Taylor Swiftspear: Modern Atarka Red

Smileycorp: Because it is a different archetype. This is a standard aggro archetype from when I played that is one of my favorite decks of all time. Prowess being my favorite mechanic and Tarkir being my favorite block this archetype works for me on so many levels.

The build is to get me into modern at a low cost since I own most of the deck and want to be semi-competitive.

My apologies if this comes off wrong but just saying, "Why not just play burn?" without offering reasons as to why feels condescending since you aren't even trying to help with the deck.

Here is the comment tutorial page for the website and it has a comment etiquette. For example you could say something like, "Lightning Beserker is too slow for Modern, try out Vexing Devil instead. It has a stronger body and guarantees more damage on average for the same mana investment." That would be constructive whether I agree or not. Bashing a proven archetype in favor of another is closeminded.

Note: I have a playset of Vexing Devils that I will be testing after I take this deck to its first Modern Event. I prefer Lightning Beserker with the pump spells because it has haste atm but actually play will determine it that is worth it.

Zaueski if you looking to replace liliana. there really is no replacement but if you absolutely have to replace her with something I'd put another kill spell in.

[deck-large:/machine-gun-burner/]here is my deck I'm thinking about taking this to FNM once I have it completed missing a few cards. but I need to get a side board and I'm thinking about replacing Lightning Beserker with Geistblast for late gMe when I only have one spell left. please give me any and all advice and up vote the deck.

I would side-board Collective Effort to add in 1 more each of Mountain and Hanweir Battlements. I like the mix of weenie creatures, but it would be great if you could work in something like Lightning Beserker or Ember-Eye Wolf

I don't really think this will work really well the way you describe it. Both Zada and Drana prefer large armies in order to really have value. If you trade your first few creatures or simply play burn spells instead of creatures, you won't have a board-state that those two can really make use off. They won't be having that much value. Furthermore almsot every deck has it's own removal including White Weenie and I don't think this deck could handle a lot of removal. Furthermore, how about strategies against mid-range decks like naya superfriends/tokens or control decks like Season's Past ? White Weenie might be prevalent but they are far from the only deck out there.

Also I don't think Lightning Beserker is a good choice as the one-drop since black isn't just a splash so his effect isn't that great, and there are far better options; Zurgo Bellstriker, Village Messenger  Flip, Insolent Neonate or Falkenrath Gorger.

As for your two-drops, they might be allies, but they're not exactly aggressive or late game powerhouses. I would probably play creatures like Abbot of Keral Keep, Olivia's Bloodsworn or Heir of Falkenrath  Flip which are both good in early game as aggressive creatures and mid-game due to flying or prowess/'card draw'. Though granted the drain could possibly be usefull to weaken the opponent.

All in all, I would probably try to find a way to integrate more creatures. And if you're interested in other ways to use Zada, Hedron Grinder, check out my own brew around him :

People tend to forget that Ember-Eye Wolf is like a Lightning Beserker later in the game, you can boost him as often as you want each turn.

I can see Lightning Beserker as a good prowess deck 1 drop. Village Messenger  Flip is only good every other turn of you want the menace bonus.

If your opponent is awake, and you have Sin Prodder on the field, you will lose half of your own lands - which is not a good idea. I think that I would take a more aggressive approach, dropping Sin Prodder and Draconic Roar for 3 each of Dragonmaster Outcast (or Lightning Beserker) and Scythe Leopard (which gives you an early attack capability).
