Kwende, Pride of Femeref Discussion

fettywapmtg on Make Angels great again!(Dominaria and M19)

This deck is cute, and I'mma let you finish, but there's some issues here I wanna point out to you.

First off, the land-base is wayyy too low. You want 24-25 lands with cards like Lyra Dawnbringer, Shalai, Voice of Plenty, and Kwende, Pride of Femeref jammed up in here.

Second off, there's no good reason to play Serra Angel besides "nostalgia". You should add another copy of Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle and Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle instead.

Also, I feel like if you have the budget to put in Resplendent Angel you may as well put the full playset in, because that card is BOINKERS.

Last point, relating back to your curve, is to try to get your 2-mana spells at least slightly higher than your 3-mana spells. I would suggest specifically, to drop 2 copies of Dub (only particular valuable with Kwende, Pride of Femeref interaction as well as a copy of Forebear's Blade (two is good with Danitha Capashen, Paragon, but it's kind of slow to set up imo to be drawing multiples). Serra Disciple is a fine replacement, and should be a 3-of at least, if you're going that route, because you want to reliably draw one early to get the most value of it's ability.

Ok, card suggestion time: 1. Blackblade Reforged!!! Seriously, you run so many legendary creatures here, and this card can quite reliably prove to be of the most porfitable cards in your deck. E.g. Turn 3: Cast Danitha Capashen, Paragon Turn 4: Cast AND equip Blackblade Reforged to Dani, and swing LARGE. What's not to love?

  1. Seal Away. Seal Away may be a bit specific, but it's a cheap way to exile creatures, which is important if you're going to be up against Rekindling Phoenix, a card I absolutely despise, and you should too.

  2. Settle the Wreckage This is more of a sideboard suggestion than anything, although slipping one in the mainboard is not gonna do you too wrong either. It may have a glaring "downside", but wiping their field should often give you the opportunity to win the next turn by swinging out (unless of course they do the same to you).

Alright, that's it for now, thank you for heeding my advice. I urge you check out a similar brew I just worked up I'm really proud of, found here:

I will cite that both of our decks have the same "competitive meter", which I firmly disagree on. That's not to say your deck isn't just as competitively viable at a conceptual level, but the effort I spent gathering statistic data, to grant this deck a favorable outcome in the probability that it's going to pop off in one way or another, should be picked up on by the "competitive meter".

I don't know why but I always prefer buffs on creatures rather than enchancements, so I don't know that Radiant Destiny makes it in the deck for me. The one Benalish Marshal has served me well, and I would consider a second copy, but I don't want more than 2 as the mana can be restrictive early. Duress or Kitesail Freebooter will absolutely be in the sideboard for me, I really like having the Freebooter as Duress on a body. Shalai, Voice of Plenty will also be in the sideboard

As far as Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants and Lyra Dawnbringer, both have been really powerful for me. Ajani is great at making even little things stronger, and people are really afraid of him reaching -7 so he becomes a target of attackers, leaving room for the knights to run through. Lyra can honestly just end the game if she survives to combat, and if you already have Kwende, Pride of Femeref out, she hits for 10 and you gain 10, and the game is usually ends right there. She constantly closes games for me, as even if they burn removal on her, there is enough damage coming through elsewhere to lock the game down

If you want to go all in on knights and play a little more mid-range, I would cut Adanto Vanguard. It works better when you have more lifegain. If you want to keep the creature count, I would drop Vraska's Contempt to the side board. Ixalan's Binding hits everything VC does, just not at instant speed (the flipside is its easier to hit the mana for 3W than 2BB and it takes all of the same name). On my page I have my version of W/B Knights (mine is centered on Kwende, Pride of Femeref ) and you can look at the creature/non creature split.

The deck seems really solid ! Don't know how I could help. Maybe play one Kwende, Pride of Femeref, (I love that card and) it could easily be played with your Knights of Grace/Malice. Have fun playing ! Hope it works for you.

I think that Kwende, Pride of Femeref would do well in this decklist.

Maybe bump up the Plains:Swamp ratio to something like 11:5 or 12:5 if you cut another folly or Chapel. The big idea is to not start the game with tap lands while improving your likelihood of drawing the lands you need to cast the spells you're likely to draw, as well.

You don't have a ton of removal to fill graveyards with reanimator targets, so Vile Offering might be better as Vraska's Contempt in the main.

Lyra and Shalai work well together, but they are not super synergistic with your knights. Maybe they could be 2 Aryel, Knight of Windgrace, 2 Josu Vess, Lich Knight, and 1 Kwende, Pride of Femeref?

Maybe also flip so you have 2 Tragic Poet and 3 Knight of Grace. The Knight of Grace is going to be like your Fiendslayer Paladin. You'll play some games where it can't be answered and the 2/2 beat-down wins.

Finally, consider doing something else with 2 Blackblade slots. That equip cost is brutal unless you're playing something like an all-legends EDH deck. Forebear's Blade is probably the better equipment here, but you could sneak in 2 more creatures or 2 more combat tricks or 2 more pieces of removal.

Have fun!

Hey thanks again for the input.

I may make a second deck and copy yours to try it out then change it to my playstyle a little. I will comment again with what I come up with. Your deck actually looks like it would play out really nice.

How do you feel about Jousting Lance, Combat Celebrant, and Kwende, Pride of Femeref in this deck? Maybe another equipment or aura for first strike so that it is cheaper than Jousting Lance?
