zapyourtumor I am not sure where you are testing Choice of Damnations but in my experience it is a solid board wipe. The only issue is that it is bugged on MTGO. The ideal usage is when your opponent has a fairly solid board state and low HP they can't offer much life and are forced to sacrifice most of their board. For example say they have 7 lands and 5 creatures but only 4 life. At most they can only offer 3 life or they will automatically lose should we accept their offer, as such they have to sacrifice all but 3 permanents, including lands. Or we can accept their offer of 3 life and then bolt them. Either way there is utility but it has to be used right. Ideally you might want a second guaranteed board wipe ready.

As for Knollspine Invocation I recently added that as a sort of backup plan. The weakness of our deck is if our opponent just lets us draw off from our Risk Factor's and Sword-Point Diplomacy's then we end up with a hand full of cards and no outlet for them and the opponent would have saved themselves a lot of life. But with Knollspine Invocation instead of casting them we can pay the same cost and direct them at our opponents face or even a creature if it posses a threat to us. I will agree that it is a smidge clunky and mana intensive but I haven't found a better solution yet. I am open to suggestions

Good points, although in my own testing I found Choice of Damnations to be pretty slow and clunky. I eventually ended up cutting it down to 1 copy.

Just wondering, why is Knollspine Invocation in the deck? It seems really mana intensive for what it does. Is it just to burn out the last few life points of the opponent after they pay away most of their life?

Ares666 that one slipped by me. I'll take a look at it. Removal good. Is it better than Knollspine Invocation though? Typically I can only recover one spell per turn with this current build. If the deck was extra combat driven Firestorm is in instantly.

I could test it in place of Turbulent Dreams . The instant speed makes it more desirable, however dreams doesn't need to worry about damage for removal. Hmm. Great suggestion. Thank you.

Strengths:

Perk #1: Tons of great combos in this deck.

Perk #2: Every card fits an awesome theme.

Perk #3: There is a lot of low converted mana cost in this deck, which allows you to ramp up really quickly.

Weaknesses:

Issue #1: You can't have 7 copies of a card - Therefore, you would need to remove 3 copies of Goblin Chieftain.

My Suggested Fix: Add 3 different cards. You could replace the 3 copies of Goblin Chieftain with 2 copies of Foundry Street Denizen and 1 Mountain. Low cost, high value for early game consistency, and better mana consistency in the deck.

Issue #2: There are a lot of high rarity cards in this deck - which means you can only play a certain number of copies of each card. Because there is so many high-rarity creatures, you have a high likelihood to draw dead cards.

Example: If you draw 3 Warren Instigator in your first hand, you would have 2 dead cards in your hand because you can only play 1 Warren Instigator per game. It's a legendary.

My Suggested Fix: Fill in the 3 missing copies of Goblin Chieftain with cards like Burning Inquiry, Knollspine Invocation, or Bag of Holding. That would allow you to discard the useless cards and get some value out of them.

Overall: I rate this deck 4 out of 5. Great theory-crafting, great combos, but there are some fundamental issues with it. Luckily, those issues can easily be fixed.

Thank you triproberts12

In general, my attempt with the deck was to mainly see how I could keep it enchantments as far as possible, so normal creatures (With the exception of one or two) probably won't be much use, though Stronghold Machinist is pretty interesting.

But Swarm Intelligence seems like a fun idea and it would only require a little prep for the Enduring Ideal . I think I'll switch out Martial Law for that one instead. Knollspine Invocation can also be plenty fun, but not entirely sure what to remove from the deck for it. Perhaps Grim Guardian

The first thing I would recommend is finding a way to copy your namesake card the turn it's cast. Copies aren't cast, so both will resolve! It's pretty expensive, so having onboard ways are the best. Primal Amulet  Flip is probably the best. If you utilize spell based ramp and tutors, you should be able to flip it. Swarm Intelligence , The Mirari Conjecture could also work.

Since you're not planning on using your hand or lands into the late game, you might as well have onboard tricks that use those resources.

To use your hand, you could play Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace , Words of Waste , Null Brooch , Restore Balance , Jolrael, Empress of Beasts , Mageta the Lion , Stronghold Machinist , Stronghold Biologist , Greel, Mind Raker , Alexi, Zephyr Mage , Notorious Assassin , Knollspine Invocation , Pyromancy , and Magus of the Balance .

To wreck everyone else's hand Mindslicer , Bottomless Pit , Creeping Dread , Necrogen Mists , and Oppression work.

To destroy lands, you could use Desolation , Destructive Flow , and Mana Vortex .

I would ditch Avatar of Discord, you lack the required support of madness cards to make it worth it (not to mention the astronomical mana costs, the combination of casting it + madnessing something can have). In lieu of those it also suffers from the same problem Bloodrage Brawler does. If it gets killed/exiled (or even bounced) you got a tremendous card disadavnatage - and its hard to cast if you topdeck it late game.

Chandra's Phoenix is not as bad, as avatar, but this is just not hte right deck for it. It would thrive in any burn/control deck that can reliably hit face and need cards as fodder for large red spells like Lightning Axe, Knollspine Invocation, Jaya Ballard, Task Mage... etc. This deck only play 6x cards that fulfill the phoenix's reanimation clause, and you would still have to cast it, as you don't have much use for it as a discard fodder (outside of looting it away)

@ModernVisage

Thanks for the input. In the past I have tried all the things that you have suggested, but for one reason or another they just haven't worked or I've found a better way to go. I'll try and explain my thinking below.

Night of Souls' Betrayal is a strictly better version of Curse of Death's Hold in this deck, but even then the presence of a taxation effect like Ghostly Prison is much more efficient and doesn't require the additional colour.

Paradox Haze has seen play in a UW version of this deck, but I found it too slow for Modern as I can rarely take a turn off to get the benefit of 2x upkeeps in the future.

Luminarch Ascension is a way to use additional mana and I have tried Heliod, God of the Sun for that reason too. Peace of Mind has also appeared in the deck list, but it hasn't performed well. In the early days of the deck I tried Knollspine Invocation, but it wasn't very efficient. Back then the deck was WRB though so it could be worth a revisit.

Thanks again for your suggestions though.
